Patriotic Front (PF) Central Province Youth Chairperson Moses Chilando has castigated Transparency International Zambia (TIZ) for alleging that the Patriotic Front (PF) led administration is the most intolerant Government since 1991.

In a statement unveiled to the media yesterday, Chilando said that TIZ’s accusation on the ruling PF are not only unfounded but outrageous.

He said such accusations made by TIZ Executive Director Wesley Chibamba are just a clear indication that TIZ is bent on championing the political agenda of its known political belonging the UPND.

Chilando has however noted with anxiety that the donor funds meant for good governance and anti-corruption programming risk being misapplied to champion partisan interests by the current crop of leadership at TIZ.

He further noted that Professor Alfred Chanda must be turning in his grave seeing what has become of the great organization which he served with honour and dignity now turning into a United Party for National Development (UPND) Public Relations (PR) wing.

“The PF enjoys constructive criticism and remains ready to engage stakeholders within the civil society space who are genuine about their objectives”

“As Youth leaders in the Party, we are aware that PF promotes responsible and balanced reporting. It has been said before that with freedom of expression comes responsibility. Society expects the media to be professional as their exploit their constitutional rights to report freely” Chilando said

Below is the FUll Statement

PF YOUTH LEADER’S FRIENDLY ADVICE TO TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL ZAMBIA (TIZ)

Kabwe, Zambia – We would like to state forthwith that the claims by the politically-inclined TIZ that the PF is intolerant are outrageous and unfounded. The accusations being channelled through politically compromised Wesley Chibamba cannot hold and have no basis, they only prove to show that he is bent on championing the political agenda of his known political belonging – the UPND. We fear that donor funds meant for good governance and anti-corruption programming risk being misapplied to champion partisan interests by the crop of leadership at TIZ.

Professor Alfred Chanda must be turning in his grave seeing what has become of the great organisation he served with honour and dignity now turning into a UPND PR wing.

It is a fact that the Patriotic Front remains committed to furthering the norms of democracy and freedom of speech. Every Zambia is at liberty to fully express their political opinions without fear or threat. Our party came into government on a strong free speech privilege is guaranteed by the republican constitution. It is therefore unthinkable that the PF can be accused of suppressing freedom of expression.

We want to make this clear. The PF enjoys constructive criticism and remains ready to engage stakeholders within the civil society space who are genuine about their objectives. As Youth leaders in the Party, we are aware that PF promotes responsible and balanced reporting. It has been said before that with freedom of expression comes responsibility. Society expects the media to be professional as their exploit their constitutional rights to report freely.

Likewise, civil society organisations that are hiding under the NGO banner will not be allowed to champion political causes while abusing donor funds for unintended purposes such as bringing disorder and anarchy in our nation. As Youths in the Party, we know that PF is not allergic and neither is it shy to engage political competitors – only when they come out as political competitors and not those hiding being the veil of civil society organizations. Our message to TIZ that let them not shy away from there new political focus and affiliation with UPND. Before TIZ suffers FODEP’s fate under MacDonald Chipenzi, we implore the TIZ membership and Board to curtail this evident abuse of office and complete deviation from the purpose of TIZ before its too late.

We would like to commend the majority professional civil society organisations in Zambia for their constant checks and balances. TIZ knows about the letter donors wrote to FODEP Board asking them to choose between keeping MacDonald Chipenzi or losing donor support. Indeed, FODEP took correct measures and today the new leadership is doing its best to regain past glory.

  1. PF youth wing are one of the well behaved youths you ever hear of.

Why they don’t get much credit is quiet frankly beyond my comprehension.

Here is a fact. Without them – HH would have declared himself president anywhere within the country.

    They are a functioning wing

    Thanks

  2. Its not surprising. PF is delusional. Everyone else who doesn’t support PF bandits is accused to be pro UPND.
Hey PF bandits, so what if TIZ is pushing the UPND agenda as per usual, your lucrative illusions of life incompetences?!
We’ve witnessed PF bandits bully independent institutions like the LAZ of a professional & beautiful lady~Linda Kasonde & the independent private media outlets like the post newspaper of Dr Fred Namakando Mmembe. Shame on PF buffoonery.

  4. This statement contradicts itself. On one hand these youths claim they belong to a party that believes in freedom of speech and yet the whole article is full of intolerance with arbitrary personal attacks (not attacks on ideas advanced by others) and illogical accusations and jumping to conclusions like saying they belong to UPND. Quite a number of youths of Zambia these days are really amazing in their lack of logical analysis of issues. Is it something to do with our education system or is it the family upbringing of our children these days!

  5. Not only is the space shrinking, it is also becoming very toxic. Its becoming harder and harder for even neutrals to breath in Zambias political space. Any whiff of criticism and you’re labled UPND enemy of the state. Sad really.
