Southern Province Police Commissioner Bonny Kapeso has warned would-be demonstrators in solidarity of the United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema on Monday as he appears in court.

Kapeso said by law it will be contempt of court for anyone to seek any form of demonstration on Monday as solidarity march in choma over incarcerated leader of the UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema as anticipated.

He stated that in the interest of peace, he wish to warn law abiding citizens to call off the planned demonstration on Monday 22nd may, 2017.

Kapeso further urged the UPND leadership in southern province to ensure that the supporters of the incarcerated opposition leader are amicably advised not to go in the streets and allow the courts operate effectively without any form of interference.

He has however noted that the police in the province will closely monitor the activities and ensure that law and order is maintained and Zambians should not live in anxiety.

  1. THAT KAPESO PF AGENT, WHAT’S WRONG WITH THIS GUY?…ANYWAY, HE DOESNT HAVE MANY YEARS LEFT TO LIVE. DONT MIND HIM.

  2. Be warned if i was in southern province i would at all cost avoid you might end up in a grave for a richer guy who has a bunch of lawyers talking on his behalf. why demonstrate?

    • @chicken,

Clearly, you are missing the point. What do you understand by ‘peaceful demonstration’ in a democratic Country? This is NOT about HH in his personal capacity, it is about democracy in our Country Zambia. It is about democracy now as it was about democracy when Mr Sata was detained by RB’s MMD Govt for pointing out injustices then. PEACEFUL demonstrations are a democratic right in a democratic Country. The catchword is ‘PEACEFUL.

If you ban PEACEFUL demonstrations then that will be clear PROOF OF ABSENCE of democracy in Zambia. Why can’t we grow up and Learn from Zuma or Trump.

    • As much as Zambians are in love with the English language its a pity that serious challenges in its usage and understanding always manifest many times over amongst some of our sisters and brothers with parents not excluded! Some meaning to words have been narrowed while others are interpreted or used out of context. At hand is the word “demonstration” which is understood to mean “rioting and violence” whenever it surfaces!

  3. Rubbish! Kapeso is just another aborted thug. The issue is that a demonstration in Choma will not be even be broadcast or live for any court in Zambia to be influence. Kapeso MUST stop smoking ibange and also stop drinking kachasu! Zambia is a democracy, and all citizens do not have to seek permission from any dog to demonstrate against anything that they do not like!

  4. Why should it only take the people in Southern province to demonstrate?this amazes me a lot!
When Zambians call UPND as a tonga party, its leaders reject that fact.
I think the incarcaration of HH has exposed him too much because his supporters are cleanly known.HH’s supporters are mostly tongas and foreigners who dont even vote in Zambia!!!IF ONE HEARS NOISE ABOUT HH TODAY,ITS EITHER THAT NOISE IS BEING MADE BY A TONGA OR A FOREIGNER-SHOCKING!!!Majority Zambians have moved on with their daily lives as they have nothing to do with law breakers.moreover,HH is still innocent until proven guilty by the courts,so why demonstrate?
PLEASE ZP USE FULL FORCE TO ALL THOSE WHO WANT TO TAKE THE LAW INTO THEIR OWN HANDS ON MONDAY!!its like those people have data that HH will be committed to the…

    • @ Njimbu maybe you have data on who the individual participants in the planned peaceful demonstration are despite that Zambians have the freedom of settling and serving where opportunities lead!

  5. Continue….
Its like those people in southern have got data that HH will be committed to High Court on monday because a lower court cannot hear a treason case!!LETS ALL GIVE SPACE TO THE COURTS TO WORK IN PEACE!!IF HH WILL BE OUT ON MONDAY,GOOD FOR HIM,IF NOT,WE WILL WISH HIM LUCK IN THE HIGH COURT-SIMPLE!!

    • @Njimbu,
What to deflect the subject to tribe now? LOL Your constant lack of capacity to debate on the subject matter like a mature adult without shamelessly degenerating into childish false racial, tribal or physical anatomy mud-slinging speaks volumes about your upbringing/childhood and your resultant belief system. You clearly have formed a toxic screen of logic and prejudices through which you see the entire World.

  6. Kapeso is a member of the fundamentalist tribal Kola Foundation whose objective is to have Bembas permanently entrenched in government and all institutions of governance. The ‘friendly’ Chewa/Ngoni group is merely being used as ‘useful *****’!

  7. This is encouraging to hear from Southern Province. LET OUR JUDICIARY DO THEIR DUTY without cohesion from protesters and EU drunk on expensive wines. We wish HH Justice but if he has denied his opposition party friends in power their right to rule, then he must face the full force of the law. The alternative is chaos and war in Zambia.

  8. Peaceful protests should not be demonized by all peace loving and patriotic Zambians. It’s a low hanging fruit of democracy

  9. Just cage these tribalist elements. We need peace and since their under 5 president was caged we have enjoyed peace.

  10. Kapeso you are a puppet. Let citizens express themselves. You already noted that it is a peaceful demonstration, so where is the hussle?

  11. What don’t you want a peaceful demonstration ? what is the fear ? When we say lungu is a dictator and must be denied all IMF and other western funds because he uses the funds to supress democracy…..this is why he needs money to pay his pot bellied thugs to erode our democratic rights.

  12. KAPESO MUST BE HOUNTED SO THAT HE GOES BACK TO HIS HOME AREA. SOLWEZI PEOPLE HAVE ALSO PLANNED THE SAME. WESTERN PROVINCE TOO. THEN KILL THEM IF YOU WOULD.

POLICE ARE ADVOCATING FOR CIVIL WAR. WHEN PEOPLE DEMONSTRATE IT SIMPLY SAY THEY ARE NOT HAPPY WITH YOUR LEADERSHIP.

  13. @Sena says”even people in western and n/western will demonstrate on monday”.kekekekeke there goes the regional party upnd!!we cant wait for monday.but all those who will take it to the streets in those 3 provinces must be ready to meet ZP head on!!our men uniform are able to maintain law and order in Zambia!!!
Thank God in 7 provinces, it will be life as usual!!
For you “NEZ”,a dictator is the one who rejects elections after ECZ has declared a winner, the one who does not allow conventions in his party for more than 10 yrs,the one who insults judges whenever judgements go against him,the one who runs a party like a personal shop(katemba),the one who wants to enter state house by all means, etc!!!THESE ARE THE MAJOR CHARACTERISTCS OF A DICTATOR!!PRESIDENT EDGAR LUNGU HAS NONE OF THOSE…

  14. Brother Caiphas..don’t be tribal..whatever nonsense Kapeso can do or say don’t link it to tribe..am bemba but people think am tonga cz I speak good tonga..we are all zambians..

  15. A group of people meeting/ demonstrating in a a country which the President called a democracy is considered contempt of court.
Any lawyers on this blog that can explain this giznt leap in legal logic by a senior law enforcement officer.
If he is incorrect in this regard he should be replaced/ removed by the commander in chief as it would appear he doesnt understand the laws of the land.
Isnt a judge the only one that can rule on contempt of court.
