Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Bright Nundwe says smuggling of the infamous mukula tree is still illegal in Zambia.
Mr Nundwe has since called for cooperation among the citizens who are resident in the areas of operations.
He explained that government has deployed soldiers to Mpika, Chama, Chinsali and Isoka districts to stop the illegal activities.
And Mr Nundwe has ,however, asked all people who are involving themselves in the act to stop and redirect their efforts to genuine developmental projects.
Meanwhile ,ZANIS spot survey carried out yesterday disclosed that several loading bays and saw mills in isoka were confiscated and undisclosed number of people have been detained at Isoka police station.
And one of the senior citizens Blackson Sikanyika has thanked Government for coming to the protection of Mukula tree.
Mr Sikanyika said several calls have been made to people dealing in illegal Mukula trees to stop that activities but they have continued harvesting and exporting the trees.
He added that if the natural resources such as Mukula is not protected Zambia will be depleted of Mukula tree species.
Zambia army has completely taken over the fight against the illegal Mukula activities in Muchinga. Province.
When the last tree has been cut down, the last fish caught, the last river … that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money.
“Only when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish been caught, and the last stream poisoned, will we realize we cannot eat money.”
His sacred is this tree ?

Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money.
~Cree Proverb
When the last tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money.
This is the problem with African countries, they never look at the potential and bigger picture!
The ban for now is fine but government should look for ways to propagate this tree and create huge forests to grow these tree in phases so that when one phase matures and is harvest and another is planted to replace it resulting in the country having a continuous supply of mukula for export.
