Dear Dr Lusambo,
I would like to contribute to the debate on whether Edgar Lungu is a Dictator. Before I go into it I would like to clearly say I am not a supporter or UPND I think some of the way they go about selecting leaders is undemocratic and needs a huge revision. You see if a party has undemocratic practices how can it lead a nation into a better democracy. Secondly, I would like to clearly say that I am not a lawyer nevertheless I have studied PR in my Master degree and dealt with PR situation in my current. Lastly, I am not currently residing in Zambia, which gives me the unique perspective of looking at Zambia from the outside.
In my opinion one of the Presidents main jobs is sell the concept of Zambia to the world. Zambia has to be seen as open for business and ready to respect the rule of law. This is something which even the late President Michael Sata understood clearly and took photos with the Chinese business interest to show that even though he had campaign on an anti-immigration policy, Zambia image aboard was more important.
The new PF government of Edgar Lungu does not seem to care about Zambia’s imagine aboard only being right. The three things which the PF have handle very badly are as follows:
· In their dealing with Local media houses.
· Dealing with the opposition
· And blocking foreign politicians or just Mmusi Maimane in particular.
Dr Lusambo think about it if you had a country which closed down private media, arrested opposition leaders and blocked foreign leader entering its country what would you think of the country? In the real world, we call them a dictator, plain and simple. You can have good excuses for all of this but all of this is too systemic. The government has seen all of this happening and has not intervened. Let’s look at all this points in some details and maybe it would make sense to you Dr Lusambo.
In their dealing with Local media houses
Firstly I totally understand that the Post owed ZRA money nevertheless I have a few questions. Why did ZRA decided to recover the debt close to an election? What does that make the international community feel? How does that build confidence in the government who run ZRA? Could they have been another why of dealing with the issue? What about the closure of MUVI TV? When the government till today uses ZNBC as its propaganda tool. How is that fair is not ZNBC for all Zambian ? PF if we only take the way you run ZNBC you have soon major dictatorial leadership. IF MUVI TV had to close why has ZNBC not been closed for doing the same if not even worse practices. Actions speak louder than words Dr Lusambo.
Dealing with the opposition
Dr Lusambo out of respect I had waited to hear your case against HH but I was sad to learn that you sent armed policeman to arrest HH because he wanted to declare himself president Mongu? Sir firstly why not do it in Lusaka where the sit of power lies or even southern province where he has a good following? Secondly the blockage of the presidential motorcade was out of order but none of the footage shows HH in sight and we can’t tell if he tried to stop the drivers. To send a message you should have arrested the drivers. Let me put it this way if a minibus owner tells his driver not to wear sit belts would traffic police charge the owner or the driver who should have known better. They are better usage of public money sir.
Blocking foreign politicians
In 1997 when Chiluba had Kaunda arrested Julius Nyerere visited Kaunda in prison. This showed the world that Zambia had nothing to hide in fact the state noticing the damage this was doing to its image enter a nolle prosequi in the case. Open should mine open. If you thought Maimane was disruptive how much more disruptive has he been now that you kicked him out of the country.
Dr Lusambo to proof my point that Zambia image is being damaged by PF policy I am going to do the following. I am going to send this Edgar Lungu facebook which is run by one of the presidents staff. I can assure no one will reply because the only reply to thing why want to hear. Secondly I will send this to ZNBC which again will be deleted as it is not in support of our PF dictators. Lastly if by any chance you think that I am wrong and would to have an open debate about how you are ruining my beloved country I am available to publicly debate you.

Nevertheless, your points have come across and this takes us back to what the Catholic Priests said about the political status quo of your country. You are all but in a dictatorship and if you the citizens of Zambia do nothing about it then the tyrannical roots penetrating the fabric of your diverse and colorful country will grow deeper and deeper with no end insight. There is a price to pay for democracy to thrive. HH is paying such a price but needlessly due to the bias and watered down judiciary of your country. You should always separate the Executive arm from the judiciary for no one is above the law and that includes the president.
Article is well laid out and spot on but just some observation, the doctorate Lusambo has is not the one that is read for. The rule is that such doctorates are subtle, and as such he should still be addressed as Mr Lusambo which he is
Everyone affiliated with UPND always has to put a disclaimer of either saying they are not UPND or that they are not Tonga but Bemba. Your article is poorly written and with all due respect you would never be the guy to do my PR if I ever needed any.

Simukoko may have an MA in PR yet he has only shown a limited scope of his academic grounding in contemporary politics of institutional democracy and systems. I believe that we Zambians have serious cases of individual and collective or induced amnesia. Lungu stated it publicly in his address to his frenzied supporters last year at a rally. If you did, it must have been the type taught during the Kaunda times which sought to legitimize Kaunda’s dictatorship. Well even if you leant FTJ Chiluba era civics, you must have been bad at it. You seem to be mixing education gotten from elders around a fireplace in a small hut with western civic education. When you get a constitution as a country, you get governed by it. In a democracy, when you tell a person that they have no brains to run a country especially if you have seen their mistakes as politicians and as long as the constitution does not mention that you can be imprisoned for saying that, then you have not insulted anyone.

He should not be denied entry into a democratic country because he had castigated the Zambian government which on paper allows free speech which in turn is one of the pillars of a democratic and just society. thirdly, look at the type of countries you have mentioned where you are saying maimane has not gone to: Uganda, Zimababwe and Burundi. These countries have one thing in common. They all have dictators as presidents. The reason Maimane came to Zambia is because he thought it’s a democratic country with a democratically elected president.

@Tired of Persecution – Kabimba (Party Secretary General of Rain Ball) once warned you Donkeys that ECL is not a coward nor visionless but you couldn’t listen. Do you know why he said that, it is because he and ECL were together at UNZA so he knows him better than most of us. Among the 6 presidents whom we had have ECL is the only one who is a listening, humble, fearless, courageous, very hardworking (who does not send anyone to supervise his works) President.
