PRESIDENT Lungu’s administration has prioritised and delivered health projects in Southern Province in a manner never seen before, Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya has said.

And Government has deployed 732 new health workers to the province in line with its policy of ensuring all citizens have access to quality health care services.

Dr Chilufya said here on Saturday that Government is determined to ensure equitable distribution of health projects and services in the region.

“I want to emphasise that the government of President Lungu has prioritised and has delivered health projects in Southern Province in a manner not seen before and what we are doing now is consolidating what has been invested in the past and making sure that we patch up,” he said.

Dr Chilufya said under President Lungu’s administration, 80 percent of the 99 health posts allocated to the province have been completed and operationalised.

Southern Province was allocated 99 out of the 650 health post, the largest number of health centres to be given to any region in the country.

He said the province has a number of new first-level hospitals at Kazungula, Kalomo, Namwala and Gwembe and all of them are complete.

Dr Chilufya said Government has also upgraded Livingstone General Hospital to a central hospital status and is now offering health training programmes.

He said Government has also found a partner to renovate the old hospital at Choma General Hospital and build children’s ward.

Dr Chilufya said the province was the first to have a Medical Stores Limited (MSL) regional drug store hub.
He said Government is working with a partner to build a multi-purpose medical hub for MSL to reinforce the existing one as part of its plan to decentralise the operations of MSL.

Meanwhile, Government has deployed 732 new health personnel to Southern Province who include doctors, nurses and environmental health technologists.

And Southern Province deputy permanent secretary Douglas Ngimbu appealed to Dr Chilufya to secure a backup generator at Choma General and renovate the institution’s old building.

  1. Its a waste of resources taking development to people who don’t appreciate. Their development is hh. If i was ecl, i would make sure they dont enjoy anything from the government until they go down on their knees. I wonder so much why they believe in hh who has not even sank a bore hole for one poor family

    • Chilufya, MoH is constructing 5 eye hospitals where are you putting these. When you have answered we shall know if you are balance you you are bias to Luapula, Muchinga and Northern, because among the three province the four have been distributed and one to be built in Lusaka. Please go patronize your constituency.

  2. Government is there for good or bad people. For the sake of few good people its good to deliver such services to them. They can no longer use discrimination as an excuse of “crying baby mentality.”

  3. Hate mail was just a lawyer while hh claims he wants to liberate Zambia. We expect to see practical examples if we have to believe him. Edgar was feeding and is still feeding the entire neighbourhood including street kids.

Hate Mail where do you live that you can’t see hh has not done anything.

    • haha lungu feeding street kids?clearly you dont know lungu all the people who hang with him in the ghetto are starving, his wife cant even help women groups she was a member in to further their cause, the only thing tangible lungu has done is securing his future and that of his kids with property and money, his son even lives in government house meant for a minister,so what the heck are you talking about.

  4. Kalebalika, I am humbled. Thank you for wise words. May God increase your wisdom and subtract from Hate Mail Dundumwezi.

    • Dudumwezi contributes more to the GDP, than the entire chitulika and shiwang’andu combined, this is the beauty and benefits of good tax paying citizens.

  5. Just do your work professionally without partiality. Remember how tribal your PF is and you are a doctor under oath. If PF and UPND victims of political violence are brought to you, as a doctor you are expected to treat them equally. The way you come out is as if you are doing Southern Province a favour. It will not earn you political mileage. You are the first minister of health to have retired fellow doctors in the national interest on account of their ethnicity. Why? Because you have lost your professionalism and you have reduced yourself to a mere cadre. Very disappointing!
