PATRIOTIC Front (PF) Kasama Member of Parliament Kelvin Sampa has told Parliament that there is need to restore humanism week to maintain love, respect and hard work in the country.

Contributing to debate on the address by President Lungu on the progress made in the application of national values and principles for the first session of the 12th national assembly, Mr Sampa said humanism united people across religion and tribe.

He said humanism brought people together with the realisation that they all belonged to One Zambia and One Nation.

“Mr Speaker, sir, my call for restoration of the humanism week is in reference to the moral decay we are facing in the country,” he said.

Mr Sampa told Parliament that anybody who went to school in Zambia in the 1970s/80s will remember humanism week when institutions and individuals were required to help the vulnerable in society.

He said this was to live up to the humanism ideology that founding President Kenneth Kaunda adopted when he took over power from British rule.

Mr Sampa said during humanism week all Zambians were engaged in some form of activities, with people cleaning the surroundings, or visiting the elderly and the sick.
He told the house that during this time, people looked at each other as one, and this encouraged the spirit of hard work.

Mr Sampa said Rwanda has maintained peace, unity, hard work and respect through their ‘Umuganda Week’ when people are engaged in some form of activity such as cleaning or visiting the elderly and sick people.

He said Umuganda has proved to work as a tool of development in Rwanda like humanism did in Zambia.

“It is therefore from this background that I am passionately talking about its restoration as a means of unity,” he said.

Mr Sampa said the philosophy of African humanism dominated and shaped Zambian society during Dr Kaunda’s reign.

He said humanism was a centrepiece of economic reform and development strategy during the first decade of Dr Kaunda’s tenure of office.

  1. What happened with national prayers and fasting? The PF synagogue of all nation, religious and guidance. All these have failed to restore sanity in Zambia?
    Which political party

    • Sampa and his fellow satanists should practice what they preach. Why call for humanism and unity when you are dripping with hatred, scorn and anger against your perceived opponents? And you claim every day that there is no tension, that Zambia is peaceful?!

    • This Sampa is yapping to himself & other PF bandits in parliament when all 48 opposition MPs have been suspended for a month by compromised speaker.
What humanism can PF bring? PF is good at cheap tick tock tick tock & violence.
Sampa humanism can only come after the presidential petition is heard & Lungu to give power to the speaker~simple!

    • Pf if you thank you are taking this country the unip days forget it. Just put more money in people’s pocket and not the tax your Mutati keeps signing about. Humanism did not develop Zambia hence the poverty levels we had and Pf as quickly turned the clock in that direction. Talk about how you will pay back the heavy loans and how you will lower the taxes as you promised with the 90 days nonsense.

    • the one zambia one nation slogan has no meaning to some people for obvious reasons

institutions like znbc are so divisive to the extent that people no longer feel the sense of belonging

  2. I wonder what this guy is talking about. Does he know that humanism is a religion? Useless leadership. Don’t about that thing again. Humanism & Christianity can’t be on the same platform. Sampaz shallow mind thinks humanism is working together. Foolishness!

  3. Ba Sampa “muselela kwakaba” teti mwikalefye. you want be relevant to Lungu iwee c1kala. Just eat quietly shetani iwee.

  4. Comment:
This unexpected loony proposal from Sampa is in the same league as the one from a union official on the copperbelt for Kaunda’s portrait on Zambia’s currency. Both outlandish and loony in the extreme, to say the least.

  5. Degree holders or the cream of the society or educated people have failed to govern the country.
You wanted to introduce the degree as qualifications to contest for presidency. Now you have failed. Leadership is not arrogance which you are exhibiting. Leadership is to listen to every voice dissent or loyalist sides, extract sense then make a decision.
For my protest against the arrogance of Lungu, Kaizer Zulu, Amos Chanda, Mumbi Phiri, Frank Bwalya, Kamba, Kampyongo, whom I viewed as they have hijacked the party, I vote for UPND as a sympathy vote . As stated in the scripture to simpathize with those who are being persecuted. I will try to convince at least twenty people to vote the same way.

  6. Mr Sampa let’s not sugar coat these things. Humanism is also at odds with Christian Faith because it instructs the People to base their life on a Self Agency. We declared ourselves a Christain Nation and must be careful not not indulge and water down faith.

Here is a definition of Humanism: ‘Humanism is a philosophical and ethical stance that emphasizes the value and agency of human beings, individually and collectively, and generally prefers critical thinking and evidence over acceptance of dogma or superstition. The meaning of the term humanism has fluctuated according to the successive intellectual movements which have identified with it. The term was coined by theologian Friedrich Niethammer at the beginning of the 19th century. Generally, however, humanism refers to a…

At least the great satanist KK never lied.He only used to say my lord god without mentioning the name of that deity.National prayers are over Dungu is drinking blood. Mabinibini asked upnd to form their own Parliament.

  8. Its a pity how this generation has so soon forgotten Humanism. Just because its proponent was deposed from state House. It was a good ideology. Listen to Keith Mlevu explaining it in his song
