Deputy Secretary General of the Patriotic Front, Mrs Mumbi Phiri has stated that the suspension of the 48 UPND Members of Parliament by the Speaker is in line with the Parliamentary code of conduct.

She said that the UPND Members of Parliament had misconducted themselves twice stating that the first time it happened, they had been warned and therefore the action of Suspending them after the second act of misconduct was very much inline with the parliamentary code of conduct.

And Mrs Mumbi Phiri also said that those that have been saying that the Members of Parliament from the Patriotic Front also deserved to be suspended because of singing “Lungu ngatalipo bonse aba niba ngwele,” when President Lungu walked into the House of Parliament should know that the PF Parliamentarians were equally warned and that in the event they repeated such an action, they too would face disciplinary action.

“People are forgetting that the Members of Parliament for the UPND apologised but went and repeated the same thing making them second offenders. Meanwhile the Members of Parliament for PF who were singing were first offenders. If they repeat, they are also going to be suspended ” she said.

She cited an example of how she had been suspended from Parliament for a period of 3 months a few years back when she had been a Patliamentarian.

” People want to make it seem as though the speaker is making his own rules yet the rules have been there time in memorial. I myself was suspended for misconduct not under Speaker Matibini but under Speaker Mwanamwambwa.” She said.

And the Deputy SG has advised the opposition UPND Members of Parliament to take the opportunity of the prevailing parliamentary reforms to amend the rules which they are unhappy with .

” Most People dont even know that each parliament has its own set of rules. I will cite an example of the Zambian Parliament were when acknowledging something, they say “ya ya ya ya” were as in Tanzania when Members of Parliament are acknowledging, they stomp their feet. ”

She Stated that it was unfortunate that some people wanted to imitate the South African Parliament were the Parliamentarians behaved anyhow when in the House to the extent of even insulting the President .

“But here in Zambia. Especially when the President is on the floor of the house, that is described as a solemn time and the decorum requires you to keep quiet and listern. ” she said.

The Deputy Secretary General was speaking when she featured on the Patriotic Front Interactive Forum at Chrismar yesterday .

    • FightFighting calls for summary dismissal, Mumbi your seat should have been nullified. Typical of kaponyas, she does not understand how things should work. It is also an insult for Mumbi to compare herself to other honorable members of our society.

    • I never usually agree with Ms Phiri, but she is right on this one. Zambia takes after the British Parliament where the President is like the Queen. The President, like the Queen, visits Parliament to deliver a speech in which he outlines government bills. How can the UPND members debate the bills later when they do not recognise the person who delivered them? It is like sitting an exam set by an institution that you do not recognise is authentic or even exists. IT IS TOTALLY ABSURD. UPND MPs and their leaders just hate Lungu as a person and that hatred mixed with pride are the cause of this bitterness. HH is shortening his own life by failing to accept that Lungu is HIS President. Cha munyokola ku mtima.

OPPOSITION Patriotic Front (PF) president Michael Sata has charged that Speaker of the National Assembly Amusaa Mwanamwambwa will not weaken the PF despite his relentless attempts to suppress it in favour of the ruling MMD.

Commenting on a 90-day suspension of PF Munali member of parliament Mumbi Phiri and 60-day suspension of PF ‘rebel’ member of parliament for Kawambwa Central Elizabeth Chitika-Mulobeka by Speaker Mwanamwambwa on Friday night after the duo physically fought and insulted each other in the parliamentary foyer last month, Sata claimed that the penalty against Phiri was stiffer than Chitika-Mulobeka’s because the Speaker dislikes…

  1. Aba Bena katwishi mwe …. what have we not done to deserve people like her in the top leadership of a ruling party. Surely worrisome

  2. Mumbi was suspended for sizing up with fellow PF MP, Chitika-Mulobeka. She went for Chitika’s neck in the Parliament grounds

  3. Exactly, Mumbi. These donkeys expect a different set of rules for them because they think they are too advanced for most Zambians. That is why they can’t get parliamentary seats elsewhere except in their vile and tribalistic bantustans!! Even their fake professor Nic Cheeseman has written another useless article that is trying to mislead the international community into believing that the 48 donkeys were suspended because Dr. Matibini is an ally of the ruling party when even Amusa Mwanamwambwa did suspend Mumbi and Jean Kapata earlier!!
You can view the rubbish article if you google: “Zambia slides towards authoritarianism as IMF props up government”-TOTAL COW DUNG THIS ARTICLE!!!

    • Unfortunately for you, his word carries more credibility in the international community than yours and that of your idol Mumbi Phiri. The fact that you can call people created in Gods image as donkeys reflects the very bigotry and false supremacy you falsely give yourself and evidences the very tribalism at the very core of who you are which you cynically try to label others for your own vile satisfaction. You compare the violent act of your idol to that of people walking out, what cant of twisted logic do you have? Make a difference by being substantive rather than spewing hate tirades that don’t build Zambia.

    • But is it the international community who vote or is it we the Zambians?? You can get all the favours from the international community but will the people from Matero, Garden , Chiwempala, Luapula, Muchinga, Chipata, Zimba vote for hh??? You know the answer to that…that’s why 2021, I still see PF remaining in office because your upnd simply has no strategy!!!

    • You are a bigot, you jackass. Aren’t you a “muntu”? Why do you use words whites in the apartheid era used to belittle blacks? No wonder you fail to reason like a human being.

  4. Nice that Mumbi has reminded people about what happened to her – the Speaker can suspend an MP for misconduct and there is precedence. Whether you insult Mumbi or not that is immaterial – facts are there for all to see. Also, only a fool commits a mistake, apologizes and does the exact same thing.

  5. ,2020 you are reasonable when you comment on the economy but on the politicking you come out with too much emotive rhetoric. Pipo must realize that there is a gulf between the twp major parties and inflammatory talk doesnt help zambia’s current economic or political situation.
Mumbi Phiri tends to make statements that are definitive, as if she knows or is directing pipo to act in a certain.
Does she kniw for sure that pf mp’s will be suspended. She is prempting a situation and that leads pipo to perceive that she has influence with government officials. Let her tone down

  6. Mumbi Phiri is not the epitome of wisdom or tradition. I would rather she acts in a sober manner befitting a national leader.
Today , women want recognition and participation in national affairs. Her tone betrays the moral vein we need to every women. Where a lady prides in insults, innuendoes, sarcacism and degoratory remarks towards men holding opposing views leaves much to be desired.
Many of us have to be blamed ourselves to allow women of her nature to utter careless statement.

  7. so madam mumbi when you fought in parliament you where suspended was that your first misconduct or not?becoz here PF members was warned and you said it was their first misconduct and UPND was their second time, pliz clear me on these

  8. The crux of the matter is what is the Speaker’s reasons for suspending the UPND? Recognizing Lungu as President is not a Constitutional requirement. Refusal to recognize Lungu cannot be the reason for suspending the MPs. Boycotting a Parliamentary Session cannot be a reason for suspending the MPs more their Party has Petitioned the 2016 Election Results and that Petition has not been heard. Its these MPs constitutional right to protest the Stolen Election, the incarceration and persecution of HH their President. Why should the MPs recognize an Election Thief and a Law Breaker as a Legitimate President. HH and UPND will Never recognize illegality.

  9. I think you’re addressing the wrong issues, Madam. The Speaker followed the letter of the law when he suspended the MPs. But the issue here is that he did not exhaust the process. He acted emotionally and applied the law without due process.

  10. I love this woman cause she’s a strong woman. But bringing up the South African Parliament is a No No!! That’s the best parliament in Africa by Far. Malema / Ndlozi (and the EFF) are actually doing the South African people a good job by providing checks and balances to the ANC government. Our Opposition here in Zambia are sleeping….

  11. But we kan.yo iwe we all know you ere suspected for being caught red-handed giving Michael Sata a blo-job on the Speaker’s alter in parliament! You should actually have been expelled because a few months later you were caught in the toilets of parliament by Nkombo and Mwila this time giving oral se.x sansamcation to no ther than Chimbwili Kashimba!
