The Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia board says it has distanced itself from the recent joint statement issued by the three Church mother bodies because its Secretariat was sidelined in the process of coming up with the statement.
The statement has however not been signed by EFZ Chairman Paul Mususu who attended the briefing at Kapingila House and his Vice Bishop Fortune Mwiza.
Leaders of the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Council of Churches of Zambia and the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia last week held a joint media briefing at Kapingila House where a strong statement was issued condemning the PF government for the worsening governance climate in the country.
But in a statement issued this morning, EFZ Board said they do not agree with the statement because the Secretariat headed by its Executive Director was not consulted.
The EFZ Board said it acknowledges the prolonged volatile situation in Zambia before and after the last general election and appealed for calm from Zambia and urging them to engage in serious prayers.

Lungu has a vindictive streak in him of pushing wrong-doing to the max. Two years ago he justified stealing from his client by saying that he repaid the money he stole. On retaining ministers after Parliament was dissolved, he said that the Constitutional Court would advise, knowing full well that the court decision would only happen after or close to the election period end. He is doing the same with the torture of HH, that the court would determine the treason case. When the courts quash the case, he will wash his hands off the responsibility of having tortured HH through the treason trial.

The problem with governments in Africa is that, anyone who speaks against injustices is an enemy of the state. For supporters and beneficiaries of state power all is well until they themselves suffer injustice at the hands of their idols. At least the Catholic Church has been consistent in its stand against injustice. They spoke against KK, Chiluba and RB.
Am Auxiliary Bishop is not a Diocesan Bishop. He is merely an assistant to the Bishop who is responsible for the diocese. The Archbishop is two steps senior to the Auxiliary Bishop. This is like an altar boy dissociating himself from the priest’s homily! This blatant Wakonism and insubordination should not be tolerated in the Holy Church.

An African’s worst enemy is another African who wants his job, or land, or wife or another resource. Africans were killing or selling each other long before the missionaries came to Africa. So religion is not a divider among Africans. In fact it is a unifier among tribes that have hated and murdered each other for millenia. Paul Mususu should resign from the EFZ board if he doesn’t want to work as a team. They wouldn’t even waste time. They have put the institution of EFZ into disrepute. And him and his vice have chosen not to sign the press statement that gives the official position of EFZ on such a serious matter shows that they are not in good standing with the fellowship and they cant continue to serve as leaders. They should know that there is no shortage of leaders in EFZ.

Wise counsel. However, aren’t Bishops human too? Must they not fold their sleeves, if need be and when called upon by mitigating circumstances? Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Bishop Tutu of South Africa was not known ever to condone evil in the name of “PARENTING.” He always called a spade a spade.

The problem is neither the church nor the state. The church-state strife is merely representative of a huge underlying problem that was born with Zambia in 1964. And the problem is that our electoral system tends to promote regional politics and therefore ethnic strife. The result being that certain groups feel marginalised and righteously indignant.
It’s all down to the fact our democracy was imported wholesale from western capitals without due regard to characteristics peculiar to our society, vis-Ã -vis ethnic diversity. Rather we should view democracy through the ethnic prism that holds us together as a country.
Given that the ethnic line cuts Zambia into NE and SW ethnic blocks, the Presidency ought to alternate across the dividing line.

Bishops know the root cause of the problem: It’s all because one man has refused to recognize a democratically elected President and he has vowed to disrespect the law. Why should Bishops start bumping into each other as if they are in the darkness and yet Jesus said you are the light of the world? Bishops are expected to counsel HH to accept Lungu as President of Zambia and also respect the law instead of dancing to the tune of one man’s pride and arrogance.

They two Bishops(who are Canon lawyers by the way) who have clarified the position of the church are the two who are the most competent to argue the case for the church.

In 2007,the late President Levy Mwanawasa almost arrested him due to such an approach to national issues.
Reverend Pukuta Mwanza is causing divisions in EFZ. He has always been a PF cadre and will support everything PF does. Even if PF ordered killing of all citizens, he will support them in the name of loyalty to the government. I regret that at one point in time he was my pastor. I thank God am not under him anymore because he can mislead people. True Christians do not support everything that government does. Where government does something wrong, they are there to advise the correct way of doing things not just endorsing everything president does.
What we need is to do is clasp our hands, knee down, close our eyes and pray to White Jesus our great saviour.

The press briefing by the catholics is being used by upnd to represent the voice of the church in Zambia, which is totally wrong. The catholics only account for 20% of the church going population in Zambia. Myself and millions of Zambians who represent 75% of the protestant congregations are not spoken for here-therefore I cannot and will not take this issue serioussly!! BECAUSE THIS TRIBE WANTS TO BE GIVEN POWER ON A SILVER PLATA. LET US BE HONEST WITH OURSELVES.
