UPND will not participate in PF’s organized unity and peace campaign-Mwamba

Share

United Party for Natiional Development (UPND) Vice President Geoffrey Mwamba has charged that his party will not participate in the Unite and peace campaign which PF has organized  because his President Hakainde Hichilima is still being subjected to torture.

Mr Mwamba noted that it amounts to immorality for his party to participate in such a program when Hichilema has been subjected to abuse and continued detention for no apparent reason.

He said President Hichilema has been subjected to filthy conditions and later on treated as a criminal as evidenced from the manner he is been dragged from one place to another.

The UPND Vice President alleged that over 3000 members of the UPND across the country have been arrested on trumped up charges, some of them on non- bailable offences.

Mr Mwamba said Obvious Mwaliteta, Musichili and many others have been in detention for close to a year for.

“Some of our brothers and sisters have been brutally attacked by PF cadres for simply belonging to the UPND,” He said.

He pointed out that PF colleagues have already judged them as the ones behind the burning and destruction of important infrastructure in the country without any thorough investigation by the police.

“As UPND, we wish to thank Kelvin Bwalya Fube (KBF), Emmnanuel Chilekwa and all the organizers of the Unity and Peace campaign for extending an invitation to the UPND leadership to participate in the Saturday’s program. As much as we would like to participate in such important programs, our hands.”, Mr Mwamba noted.
He also said in Bemba that ” Uwawa tabula akabepesho” ( when people hate you, you are accused of raising dust even where there is water) .

Mr Mwamba said the real need for Zambians is food on the table, drugs in hospitals, education for their children, employment, and not oppression.

“We knew from the on-set that PF had a scheme to declare the state of emergency to target the UPND leadership and the general membership for no reason.” He said.

Mr Mwamba said his party is aware that there is a deliberate scheme by the PF in collusion with the police to arrest his party members on mere suspicion arising from the declared politically motivated state of emergency targeted at President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND membership.

He said UPND is a law abiding party and that is why  it would always go to court for all the grievances.

“We therefore demand for the unconditional release of president Hakainde Hichilema  and all our members who are in detention ,then we shall be available for such programs,” Mr Mwamba said .

    • Forgive the dumbo. He has plans of taking over the UPND and this is working to his advantage hence doing everything possible to prolong tension.

    • I think people just want to cause trouble, why call for release of all prisoners who broke the law just because they belong to your party? You are promoting lawlessness. Next time there’s elections and people break the law (regardless of which party) should they be released?

This is why the call to have unconditional peace talk was doubted, it was a mere talk. How can from the same party from the two most top leaders come such conflicting statements? There’s something seriously wrong going on.

    • This is not news Has the UPND taken part in anything under PF and Lungu? be it in parliament they only go there for salaries when on key moment to vote for a bill they walk out not part of it, at least they stay and vote No that make sense because someone has had a say but unfortunately they are in there own world only them do the right thing the PF and others are 100% wrong living in denial

Recently UPND had members in parliament during the day the Threatened state of Emergency was tabled but again they walked out when time to vote not even to take part to ague no time for that but they have time to go through all the courts in Zambia shame

    • How many pf cadres are languishing in prison for crimes they have committed ?none eg Max!So are you telling us that pf cadres are the most peaceful.Who has been arrested for the mayhem at the funeral of the late UPND member a few week ago?
Only sadists andSatanists are happy to see the way things are in Zambia today.

    • Alliance for Community Action (ACA) Executive Director Laura Miti says it was illogical for President Edgar Lungu to base the Threatened State of Emergency declaration on the recent fires, instead of basing it on the lack of intolerance between the PF and UPND cadres. And Miti says President Lungu is not helping Zambians to get out of the election mode by consistently talking about Hakainde Hichilema’s election defeat whenever he is addressing the public.

  1. Mwamba needs to think beyond his nose as we are seeing contradictory mixed feelings in UPND leadership on
which call should be honored on PARTIES Peace Dialogue.
Is Mwamba waiting for SADC or UN to come in.

  2. I have been reading blogs from various sites. I don’t normally contribute because I am a senior civil servant based in Zambia. I find Zambians to be probably the worst bloggers in terms of substance. As I post this, I probably expect big insults in return. One would assume that the internet in Zambia is used by a high caliber cadre, and quality blogs will be posted. Alas, it is mediocrity at play. If for example somebody just post “FAT ALBERT” ! What contribution does he make to knowledge?

    • Thank you for this clear message Luapula. Zambians in the diaspora are the worst culprits. I fear that if they were to return to Zambia, the current situation would get worse due to their intellectual bankruptcy. However, on the message by GBM, I think they as a party have a right to choose which processes to participate in. The PF peace and unity dialogue does not mean much, especially when it is convened by low level people like KBF. The dialogue that should matter is that between the leaders of parties and government. A leader who truly wants peace would do well to convene a national indaba!

  3. This foreigner (south African) is behind the arson & lawlessness in the country, together with is fellow parastal looter. They should be arrested together & moved from one place to another together. Arrest this lunatic!!!

  4. Which national gathering has UPND ever participated in? This one would have been the exception. UPND is known to be in its own world in terms of National unity. Even when their leader was not i the police cells/prison they still shunned important national events. So for Mr Mwamba a supposedly vice president of the party to issue this kind of statement it shows how shallows calibre of leadership in this party.

  5. Just because he’s got money doesn’t mean he’s got brains. There jerabos who very rich through stealing.

  6. It’s no news when a dog bites a goat.

    Why even report it?

Any one interested in a 40X60 plot in Livingstone’s Highland area? I am selling – THIS IS NEWS WORTHY!

  7. PF must educate their cadres and learn some social studies

  8. This guy reported sick for the court appearance with hh in Luanshya yesterday, today he is issuing public statements?? Is he really helping his buddy hh with all those adjournments??? Really strange.

    • We are not blaming the opposition members for the acts of terror in Zambia because we don’t know the culprits and if we knew, we would have arrested them,” Justice Minister Given Lubinda told BBC Focus on Africa yesterday. And Lubinda challenged BBC that as they highlight incidences of bad governance in Zambia, the International media should also tabulate acts of arson and violence that led to the declaration of a Threatened State of Emergency. “We have not in any way blamed opposition members for the acts of terror. We don’t know them, had we known, we would have arrested them. We have declared this period a period of threatened peace and security to allow the police to investigate and we are determined to bring to book these culprits who are behind these acts. Had we known them, we…

  10. Parties that come to the table of reconciliation should all have contrite hearts and are able to accept that they have injured each other in one way or another.Reconciliation becomes an academic exercise if arrogance and pride creep in.A table of love can only be laid bare if the parties that have grieved each other have a heart of give and take.It is not a place of settling scores and out doing each other.Love covers a multitude of sins.Without that ingredient of love, a table of love is laid in vain.Emotions can only be solved a genuine altar of love and repentance. There is nothing fundamental in life like seeing value in the person who wants to turn a new page in life.Forgiveness can only be achieved if both parties have realized that they have injured each others images.

    • Well said Mbaluso! We have too much pride and arrogance in Zambia. We also look at each other as enemies rather than fellow citizens with differing views. This is the fundamental issue…what you have called love. Zambians, we are one people – whether you like it or not. It is time we learned to differ and still remain civil and respectful and loving toward one another. I wish someone can whisper these words in the ears of the presidents of the two major parties. We need peace in our land!

  11. UPND is an opposition party and so you are right to oppose whatever good move the ruling party.

You are doing well because u are doing your job.

  12. Do u have to tell us? We know you don’t stand for unity and peace. We are happy that you are going to stay away you Terrorists.

  13. i thought ichilema said its time for unconditional dialogue but why is fat Albert refusing dialogue ? could it be that he wants the friend to continue being mundende?

    • Is the dialogue with Edgar Lungu? Is HH going to represent UPND? Stop fanning the flames of hatred and be reasonable. If you are possessed by an evil spirit, please don’t share it with others!

  14. It is very understandable. Their leader is incarcerated over trumped up charges and you want them to participate in the peace campaign??

  15. Well said GBM. I like your stance and each time you have spoken there is authority and inspiration in your words. This is what UPND needs and not exhibiting weakness against those PF thugs.

  16. Bembas say UBUKULU BWA MAT AKO TEBWINGI BWA MAFI”.”and they also ICHALO NI MPUT.I TACHIBULA MASHINSHA.

  17. In one village there was one Kachema who used to call for help saying a leopard was attacking his flock and yet not. He laughed at them each time they came because there was no leopard in sight. This other day he called them and they never came but this time the leopard had visited his flock and killed many animals. The villagers had become upset for being fooled so many times and had agreed never to respond to the Kacheme’s calls anymore. GBM for now go and experience and if it wont be to your liking do not attend the next come together. This might be your chance to come out on the issues congesting your heart.

  18. THESE GUYS BOYCOTT EVERYTHING INCLUDING THEIR OWN TRADITIONAL CEREMONIES. STILL HURTING FROM LAST YEARs ELECTION LOSS.

  19. This illogical Party is bouncing off all walls in Zambia! How mad is this? First they call for talks, now they refuse to take part in Peace and Unity efforts.

Who are they kidding? Peace is the last thing they want and Zambians should observe their modus operandi time and again. We are now satisfied that UPND is a cacophonous empty bucket raising high decibel noises to crack our eardrums.

  20. This Donkey Madumbo, if you are law abiding then let underfive face the music until his turn for trial comes.
If you are law abiding you should be the acting presidenT right now.
    Bu donkey ni polobulemu sana.

  21. If you are from the old school you shall remember the story of one kachema who used to shout “Nyalugwe kuno eeeee” This story we learnt in standard 2. It is a figurative way of teaching that lies and foolery can be detrimental in one way or the other. Just like we teach ” Kalulu atumine nsofu” meanig to humble oneself as you request the elders for help.
