Zambia Direct Democracy Movement (ZDDM) Vice president Charles Kafumbo has praised President Edgar Lungu for facilitating the Catholic Bishops access to meet incarcerated opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema.

Today President Edgar Lungu met with the catholic Bishops at state house to spark dialogue for reconciliation with the Patriotic Front (PF) and United Party for National Development (UPND)

The Catholic Bishops led by Zambia Council of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) President Teresphore Mpundu in their quest to find a meaningful dialogue on national unity and reconciliation successfully met the head of state who granted them access to incarcerated opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to discuss dialogue and reconciliation.

Kafumbo says President Lungu’s move to allow the Catholic Bishops meet Hichilema at Mukobeko Maximum Prison is a step in the right direction as Zambia has witnessed unprecedented political violence and acts of sabotage in recent times.

“We thank President Edgar Lungu for facilitating the Catholic Bishops access to meet incarcerated opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema” Kafumbo said

And the Green party has released the following statement

GREEN PARTY COMMENDS DIALOGUE AND RECONCILIATION MOVE BY CATHOLIC BISHOPS

As the Green Party, we are quite elated that the Catholic Bishops met President Edgar Lungu today to initiate reconciliation between the President and incarcerated UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema. The move by the Bishops could not have come at a better time than now. We hope that soon, the Bishops will bring the two leaders together for reconciliation. There is urgent need to restore unity and harmony in the nation.

Nothing is more important than reconciliation. As the Bible teaches us, if a person is about to offer a gift at the altar and remembers that he has something against his brother he should leave his gift and be reconciled first to his brother and then come and offer his gift..

Time for pride and belligerency must be over. Belligerency will never take this country anywhere but mutual respect and spirit of reconciliation.

  1. Don’t be silly it had to take hh to call for talks as He is the only one putting Zambians interests first. That ugly rat called lungu is not a president that is why he is very arrogant and expects talks only after hh recognises him as president. Lungu is a very naive man who acts like he is still in the womb. I need to bend him over and whip him silly like a boy to put some sense in him.

    • I think people like do not have your HH at heart and you want him to rot in Mukobeko maximum prison. And this is the more reason you have always been provoking and insulting ECL day in and day out so that he does not release your preferred leader. Very sad!

    • Welcome but they should have done more by addressing the cause which is the last elections. They just mentioned this but didn’t suggest anything in terms of the need to solve the dispute. Further, they should have addressed the root cause of the 2016 elections dispute which is ECZ and Concourt, institutions which they should have advised must be independent. They only dealt with treating the effects of the past problem. Or at least they should have hinted directly that through dialogue they propose, issues of the independence of the ECZ and Concourt must be addressed. As Chagwa has already hinted, he thinks or wants that the dialogue the Bishops mentioned should be about having HH recognise him as republican president, period. And why is he obsessed with being recognised? To me it sounds…

    • NEZ, I have some choice words for you but would rather postpone to a later date. Back to your unwise statement, an Arabic proverb says “Don’t ask the learned, but the experienced”. As much filth HH, btw your DEAR HH, has gone through you still have a face to utter such cheap, childish and unsupervised remarks? If anything you should be the one welcoming reconciliation and not the utter arrogance you’re displaying on this blog. HH and his family have experienced pain and anger from the day he was detained, I’m surprised you still want this man behind bars. I have never been an HH follower, but to see such fruits of peace my conscious informs me this is moving forward rather than backwards. STOP insulting Edgar day in and day out. If you’re truly aggrieved by the loss of the last…

    • continued
elections, this is the time to utilize your working strategy and mount campaigns country-wide if 2021 is to be the defining year for UPND PERIOD

    • I CAN’T THAT BISHOP WHO LIED THAT ZAMBIA IS A DICTATORSHIP OR SLIDING INTO DICTATORSHIP. I COMPLETELY LOST RESPECT FOR THAT LYING BISHOP.

  2. Nez you are the same people that confess the love for your demi god and yet you would rather see him in prison.
This is a step in the right direction but there you are throwing tantrums like a two year old.
A times silence is golden, you don’t have to hail insults all the time. You under five!

  3. THE SO CALLED DIALOGUE IS A NON-STARTER BECAUSE ACCORDING TO HH, IT MUST BE PREMISED ON HIM SHARING POWER WITH HEECL. AND THIS, THE 50%+130,000 VOTERS FROM 6.5 PROVINCES CANNOT ACCEPT. THEY REJECTED HH AND HE CANNOT BE PART OF GOVERNMENT.

    • ZAMBIANS VOTED FOR ECL. WHEN THEY VOTED FOR HIM THEY DID NOT SAY ECL SHOULD SHARE POWER WITH UNDER 5. “TAYANKILA MBIYE”.

  4. Let HH tell Lungu to first unconditionally release all the over 3,000 political prisoners including himself. Secondly, to call off this state of emergency to facilitate dialogue. You can’t have meaningful dialogue in a state of emergency situation. If I was in HH’s shoes, I would tell ECL to say his cry for recognition has been heard and for him to get that recognition he should confess by the bible that he did not cheat his way during the last elections and that if he did, may all the bad things follow him. It’s not worth it HH! You and your family have gone through a lot and Zambians don’t seem to appreciate your struggle. Let time speak to them.

  5. Can we for once unite and see to it that this move is not hijacked. We are tired of politics, we have not rested from the time SATA (MHSRIP) died. Can we for once move forward

  6. Upndumpers behave like dogs. Your hate human being is suffering in prison. He is paying for what he knows. Hate human being is finished politician who should just remain in prison

  7. President Edgar Lungu may end up like late Levy Mwanawasa as Zambian best presidents ever because lawyers are good at taking advices.ECL listens a lot from various people and thats why many decisions he makes are accepted by the majority Zambians!!
Evil upnd cadres such as nez, spaka like lilo who want their HH to continue suffering in jail by insulting ECL daily should be forgiven as they simply dont know what they are doing.being in jail for over 90 days is not a joke.believe you me,your HH has suffered a lot and nobody will reverse the days he has wasted in jail.his personal business is affected too.dialogue is the only answer to HH’s current problems.recall ECL has 100% nothing to lose because whether HH stays longer in jail or he is out, president Edgar Lungu will continue being…

  8. What reconciliation; we all know what the two haven’t agreed about it is elections now are they going to nullify the results, let someone explain clearly.
HH hasn’t recognized EL as as president now has HH changed his position!
To me those are their differences as far as Iam aware.

    • The election is water under the bridge. It was so messed up in so many ways. We should just move on and open a new page. There is more to this life than politics. Suffice to say African politics are dangerous because of lack of credible institutions. Power is too centralized in the president. The host of illiterate masses who are happy to be called cadres are not helping the growth of democracy. In the end, we Africans are happy to celebrate corruption and dispise or worse kill those that mean well for us. A great example is that of Thomas Sankara, a good leader who meant well for Bukina Faso. His own listened to the colonizers and got rid of him. Shame!

  9. @Nshilimubemba
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU. ALL THIS TALK ABOUT RECONCILIATION IS GOING NOWHERE. ONE PERSON WON THE ELECTION AND THE OTHER LOST. PERIOD. OTHERWISE WE ARE WASTING OUR TIME. LIFE MUST CONTINUE. WHOEVER BREAKS THE LAW MUST BE ARRESTED TO FACE THE LAW, PERIOD. OTHERWISE WE ARE SETTING A VERY BAD PRECEDENCE WHERE WHOEVER LOSES ELECTIONS AS A RUNNER UP WILL BE REFUSING TO ACCEPT THE RESULTS, BRING ARMAGEDDON AND INDUCE SOME DIALOGUE SO THAT THEY ARE RECOGNISED IN GOVERNMENT.

  10. Ba UPND you should be the ones to praise ECL for accepting reconciliation because he’s in charge while your small god is busy fighting with bedbugs in prison. Muletasha bafikala

  11. The last paragraph from Peter Sinkamba describes underfive and his UPNDonkeys appropriately.
Underfive said without conditions, meaning he is no longer demanding the s.illy so called “petition”. The release of underfive to rejoin his children and wife and NOT his donkeys is the prime objective of underfive now. But one wonders that this young donkey had to get himself locked up before he could begin seeing sensible things in life.

I suggest we put a condition for underfive to off load GBM before WE reconcile. That shouldnt be a problem to UPNDonkeys but maybe to underfive?

  12. UPNDonkeys, please note that underfive is NOT reconciling with Edgar Lungu, but WITH THE 50%+130,000 PEOPLE OF ZAMBIA WHOM HE OFFENDED. President Lungu is just an embodiment of us THE people whom His Excellency simply represents.
Just thought that I set the record straight for our Zambian donkeys.

  13. The Catholic Bishops are disturbing peace in zambia. I believe article 31 is sufficient to bring peace in zambia.

They is no confusion in zambia only HH and his wife are confused.

Bishop Mpundu stop pushing your personal agenda man.

    No reconciliation is needed.

  14. They are specialists in exorcism but they are in the wrong place! They can go somewhere where they can do it! Unfortunately, they are blind! They are pushing an agenda and some people are not aware! We take authority in Jesus’ name!

  15. The only thing they should be doing is taking in a makeshift Confessional Booth, so HH can confess his sins. Those of his heart and those he caused by encouraging disobedience/ violence to the state among his followers. For Blessed are the Peacemakers.

The confession once made; that he did commit Treason, should be the centre of any dialogue. In the meantime let the Law do its job.

  16. WHEN HH IS FREED DONT EXPECT HIM TO BE HIMSELF AND ACTIVE… THATS WHY CLERGY AND INDEED HIMSELF PANICKING THOUGHT TWICE. MARK MY WORDS. EVERY MID NIGHT BALAMU CHISA ILYA YINE BA KANYA..

  17. Good morning My fellow well meaning Zambians. I don’t have kind words for any one insulting the President who we love and have accepted. You can’t call him a rat mwebantu regardless of your political affiliation or hatred you may have for whatever reasons. Ba Lungu is our Father period.
On the other hand let me also counsel those insulting Ba HH. He equally deserves respect from all of us as a leader of the UPND representing millions of Zambians.
Please lets not fuel tension between these two great sons of Zambia. We love both of them and are praying for peace and harmony.
Not insele or any provocative language.
Let’s unit and share love for one another.
    JNY

  18. Underfive a great son of Zambia, you joking? Who introduced the alien culture of non respect of democratic values such as insulting, disrespect for authority, non acceptance of internationally accepted election results, refusing to accept results of election unless he is the winner, no internal democracy, language like “armageddon” or “volcano” etc etc? You call burning your country and all the above UPNDonkey tools and language as “great son of africa”?

Have you been playing in Peter’s evergreen garden recently?

  19. I greatly feel the bishops should make an extra mile and meet members of zambian judiciary Head and her staff to get to know their difficulties in rapid adjudication of matters that are political in nature
