Minister of Justice Given Lubinda unveils Criminalization of Torture in Zambia Project Report and Draft Bill just after the handover ceremony at his office
Government says it expects the number of students graduating from the Zambia Institute of Advanced Legal Education (ZIALE) to increase following the measures that have been put in place.

Minister of Justice Given Lubinda says government was forced to push for the changes at ZIALE following complaints from various stakeholders.

Mr. Lubinda says many people in the country do not have access to legal services because of having few lawyers in the country among other reasons.

He says it is the duty of government to ensure legal services are accessed by everyone.

Mr. Lubinda has told ZNBC news that one way of achieving this objective is by ensuring the number of students graduating from ZIALE is increased.

He said much as some lawyers may not be happy with the measures taken by government, the move is important as it will serve many Zambians.

Mr. Lubinda said in other countries, access to legal service is not a challenge hence the need for government to do the same for the Zambian people.

  1. And what measures are those. Still we have only connected people be coming lawyers in Zambia. That is why for my daughter next year she is going to the United kingdom to study law and qualify there and not in this pf infested dictatorship. I don’t mind paying 14000 pounds a year just on tuition for her to get the best education and not here to be taught how to be a political lawyer.

  2. Kudos goes to the minister of Justice for the measures set at Ziale aimed at increasing the number of graduating students. The action is commendable especially that its in the best interest of the majority Zambian who cant afford a lawyer. For those who have money, you can seek services of British lawyers period.

  3. Excellent move. Our lawyers formed a cartel to control the number of lawyers graduating from this institution for there own selfish motives. There are afraid of the fact that competition for clients will increase and hence low legal fees. It is surprising that most lawyers in Zambia have accumulated wealthy dubiously by overcharging there clients. We recommend the Gvt for this good move. Law is not the only profession we have. We have doctors, engineers, economists etc, why is it that we don’t have a challenge on the passing rate in these professions? What is so difficult about law compared to engineering or medicine? Well done Hon Lubinda. If this succeeds, you shall be remembered for breaking this cartel. We need more lawyers.
