GEOFFREY Bwalya Mwamba is lying that there are over 3,000 UPND cadres in prison facilities as the Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) has made it clear that inmates are not classified according to political affiliations.

The UPND vice president for administration, Mr Mwamba recently indicated in a statement that there were over 3,000 of their cadres in incarceration.

“Over 3,000 members of the UPND across the country have been arrested on trumped up charges, some of them on non-bailable offences,” claimed Mr Mwamba.

But ZCS Commissioner General Percy Chato reiterated that inmates were not classified according to their political affiliation.

He alluded that the UPND leader was lying by insinuating that there were over 3,000 UPND members in incarceration.

“We can’t comment because we don’t use political affiliations to classify inmates,” said Mr Chato.

And National Revolution Party (NRP) president Cosmo Mumba charged that it was absurd to classify prisoners according to political affiliation.

Dr Mumba said that prisoners were incarcerated based on their criminal acts and not the political party they belonged to.

He reiterated that the UPND should report to the relevant authorities if they felt that their members were incarcerated on trumped up charges.

Dr Mumba said that it was unwarranted for the UPND to demand for the release of their members because they were not incarcerated based on partisan lines.

He explained that the UPND members were individually incarcerated because of the criminal acts they were alleged to have committed.

    • One political prisoner is one too many. whether its 3000 or 3, Zambian democracy had matured just before the Evil Moslem Drunkard Malawian Dictator rigged the elections.

Violent thugs like Kaizer Zulu, Max Chongo are untouchable & still roaming the streets.

    • Kenyan Professor Patrick Lumumba: “There is need for hygiene in Zambia; that is the only country in the world that I know where when an opposition leader blocks some motorcade, an offence of obstruction, it becomes an offence of treason, unprecedented in the world”.

IT’S A SHAMEFUL TIME TO BE ZAMBIAN.

    • Well when PF deny anything just know its absolutely true.

The number was 2000 after elections and has now risen to 3000.

The fact that Lungu told the courts not to allow most of these political prisoners to have their day in court makes easy for PF to mask reality that there are political prisoners in Zambia.

If PF can disobey a court order regarding HH a high profile prisoner what more are they capable of doing to less important UPND members who can not attract international condemnation.

UPND should call for an international team to investigate thr plight of most prisoners who are locked up indefinitely without being convicted by the courts.

What ever PF says the direct opposit is the truth ,so I have said several time.

      PF is an evil entity.

      Free HH now.

    • @Spaka like lilo

You have said it better than I could have put. Most of them are prisoners of consious being detained for expressing their rights and freedoms; a move which PF classify as a criminal offence.

And because most of UPND prisoners are detained purely on matters of excercising their freedoms the PF does not want them to have their day in court to save it from embarrassment.

In this day and age why should any Zambian be jailed for things like unlawful assembly , criticising Lungu, praising UPND when the constitution allows that?

What Lungu is doing in Zambia is utter political madness!

Lungu s day is coming. He needs to taken out by any means necessary to save our beautiful country.

      Free HH now.

    • Simple Matter Mr. Percy P.F. Chato, Dull Cadre, conduct a survey with an independent Board to verify the claims, This will enable us to establish the truth. Your statements as commissioner General? comes out as Reactive with confirmation of facts to what GBM is Claiming.
To Zambians, it is really sad that we have made such institutions, in our Country being run by cadres. Where are ethics and protection of citizen’s rights? Amnesty International should investigate these claims.

    • I am yet to see other dull chaps like Chato and the other Dr Mumba! For GBM to have said that there are more than 3000 UPND members behind bars, he knows the truth because these people report to him as VeeP (Administration) of the UPND . GBM is not not arguing about the topic Chato and Mumba are talking about. GBM is restricting himself by talking about the UPND members who are incarcerated and not about all the people incacerated in prisons!

  1. EVEN WHEN ARRESTING THEM DO NOT TELL US THAT UPND OR PF MEMBER OR CADRE HAS DONE THIS AND THAT,JUST CLASSIFY THEM AS CRIMINALS.

    • Which relevant authorities? The same tormentors who are running govt and have enslaved Zambians?

Chato should not comment on things he cannot prove because he prefers or pretends not to notice the political intimidation and torture of UPND operatives.

  2. Kekekeke ba GBM,school is very important badaala!!well said Mr.Chato.world over inmates are not placed in political groups.
But GBM thinks that if a criminal commits crime, then it must not be arrested simply because that evil man belongs to PF or UPND.surely what kind of Govnt can upnd make if its leaders think like GBM?
Bo GBM,all inmates have the parties they support.so just imagine if all political parties demanded the release of their members, who can be in jail?yes,if they are innocent, jails can remain empty.but not releasing criminals simply because they support upnd,no!!
INDEED WE DONT HAVE PF,UPND,FDD,MMD,UNIP MEMBERS IN JAIL BUT ALL WHO ARE THERE ARE DETAINEES,WHO HAVE BROKEN THE LAW AT SOME POINT,NOW WAITING TO BE FREED OR DETAINED LONGER!!

  3. 3,000? Is that ALL! There is room for more. In fact we should find ‘No Man’s Land’ put up some tents and kraal them in until they behave better.

  4. If 3,000 of them committed crime as you see their supporters on this site “do” daily, it is okay for them to be behind bars! Zambia will be more peaceful! Unfortunately, every UPND mouth speaks lies and suffer from a condition that comes with delusions! And it is true!

  5. Mwamba is right, there are close to 3000 inmates who have been jailed for attending UPND activities like rallies, meetings for which PF members are freely allowed to attend PF organised events………if those are not political prisoners then I am related to Albert einstine

    • maybe MMD has 2000, PF 6000, napep, 800 etc. they are prisoners who support their particular parties. tey are there as a result of offences they committed not for belonging to the parties, efyo yaka bakaaamba

  6. Every person who commits a crime and is locked belongs to UPND, then we have a rotten party full of criminals

    • Of course, YOU DO HAVE A ROTTEN PARTY FULL OF CRIMINALS. Unfortunately, this criminals are masquerading as “advisers”, “commissioners”, “ministers”, “bishops”, “doctors”…………………………

  7. When you arrest people and you don’t know why? You find faults where there is none, yes when the real thugs are roaming the streets of Zambia just because they belong to the ruling party, then we have a problem. Be aware, nothing is permanent, oh yes your sins will catch up with you. Wa swekele mavu Kalunga mweza kubisilola. You think you are hiding oh no, soon and very soon you will be exposed.
Sad to note that Chato has no clue as to who he has incarcerated. That only goes to show how dull he is. If you were handed the list of names on made up charges, would you still have the nerve to call GBM a liar, watch your mouth young man. Respect.

  8. The close to 3000 inmates GBM is talking about are those arrested and some times not convicted yet for offences like attending UPND rallies , meetings and press conferences and errecting UPND banners all offences of which PF are never arrested and charged while they do the same.

    • Reminds me of the KK days when people were locked up for taking a photo or for complaining about pay cuts…. people were locked up for mentioning the presidents name in public. Today after they all agreed to a multiparty state – the police are arresting opposition for wearing a T-Shirt.. how does a nation develop in such as state? Zambia is 53 years old and there has been no change of political behaviour. Today’s Zambia inheritated bad deeds and everything evil from the old regime and have carried on practicing these evil deeds. Build houses, build the nation STOP KILLING YOURN PEOPLE

  9. Chato must be a very dull ignorant masquerading as Commissioner, when you arrest 200 party cadres and the leader of the party and the media reports that 200 cadres were arrested and are in detention, where is the lie there? Is GBM asking you to classify those cadres as such or he is just stating the facts? Why should a normal person even respond to a political statement that has nothing to do with him? Are you the one who arrested these people or were just told to keep them?

  10. Hatred in Zambia is unbelieveable…! PF government should quit being a Banana Republic and should start building houses NOT prisons. Killing your own people for want of power? How can a democratic nation kill all opposition and still call itself democratic..! Most of these youths in jail are young and have never been in politics – Their Crime? They wore a UPND T-Shirt – and that is their CRIME…! ZAMBIA POLICE THINK AGAIN.!

  11. “Instead of being out there chasing criminals, their are busy chasing Kambwili” Kambwili says in his statement. But Mr. Kambwili you are the criminal yourself that is why the police are chasing you. Why are you ruling yourself out of the list of criminals? I would like to point it out to you sir that you are criminal. Mr. Kambwili is one of those people who have a false sense of importance. He reminds me a lot of Vernon (VJ) Mwaanga (another Honorary Doctor) but that’s the story for another day. My take on Kambwili is this; Mr. Kambwili could never have become a Minister in Zambia under normal circumstances. Lungu discovered this late. He only became Minister because of Sata’s great appetite for tribalism. In my view Sata was the worst president Zambia has ever had because of his…

  12. I’m still waiting for the names of those detainees. A responsible and respected party should be able to document and account for every member that’s in distress. Not just figure

  13. Yahweh even ba Cosmo Mumba at Dr !!!,,,,,,,,with a PHD ?? gosh what the hell am i still doing here ka kkkk .Zambia never ceases to amaze me shuwa mwe. wapya mbwele pa lusaka!!
    i rest my case.

  14. It’s a shame that GBM’s morbid appetite to divide the nation has even taken him to prisons.I support sound ideologies which builds our nation regardless of whatever party. On this one GBM you’re offside.
Some current crop of politicians we have in Zambia leaves much to be desired.
