THE Government has commenced the process of repatriating Zambians stranded in foreign countries for various reasons, Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba has said.

Mr Kalaba advised Zambians to visit Zambian embassies in the countries where they were for formalities that would facilitate their return home.

The minister said in an interview yesterday that in Mali, for instance, there were more than 200 Zambians stranded due to either loss of documentation or compromised marital statuses in the case of most women.

“We have engaged our embassies across the globe to ensure that our people in need of returning home are helped to do so,” said Mr Kalaba, who, however, added that those comfortable with their statuses abroad would not be forced to return home.

Meanwhile, Mr Kalaba has reiterated that the country’s international profile has made a remarkable leap owing to the leadership provided by President Edgar Lungu.

He said the international travels of the Head of State, which had been reciprocated by his counterparts, had raked in several benefits for the country.

Mr Kalaba said this when he featured on a ZNBC television programme dubbed ‘Government Forum’ in Lusaka on Monday.

He announced that Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma was next month expected in the country for a State visit at the invitation of President Lungu.

Mr Koroma will join a list of notable foreign heads of State and Government to visit Zambia this year, among them, Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Ghana’s Nana Akufo-Addo

  1. Meanwhile, Mr Kalaba has reiterated that the country’s international profile has made a remarkable leap owing to the leadership provided by President Edgar Lungu.

You can F.OOL some people some time but you can’t F.OOL all people all the time……. BM

    • Kalaba is not only a midget in stature but in mind and brains as well. How can the profile of Zambia be raised when all major news outlets are suggesting LUngu is a a dictator? If you had any doubt of why our president behaves like he does…it is precisely because of dimwits like Kalaba giving wrong advice.

    • People are running away in Zambia because of Chakolwa Chagwa Chimbwi Kamwendo Lungu’s dictatorship, thievery, corruption.Release HH our legitimate president…

    • This part of Kalaba’s statement was totally unnecessary but I appreciate that he had to massage the ego of the ‘powers that be’ to keep his job and sustain his livelihood. Zambia twasebana !

  2. This as always been a wake call to our women, we’ve advised them on many occasions not to marry foreigners more especially Senegalese, Malians, Somalians and Nigerians, but they don’t listen.

  3. LT, There is no such word as ‘statuses’.
You are better off publishing your LT in Bemba or Nyanja.

  4. Comment:this is the only Government that has had the interests of our zambians in diaspora, it’s for this reason 100% kudos our Government should be commended for looking after the interest of those that left us for #garboron pastures, it will facilitate paper work necessary to bring them home also finance thier transportation ,upon the return to zambia, they can activate options from the government that’s pro poor through woman and youth empowerments, so they can contribute to local growth, that said the Government should also look into deporting ka Larry mweetwa, that’s a useless character who needs to help the police with investigations…I’m breaker and i approve this message

    • Commended for what? People are running away in Zambia because of Chakolwa Chagwa Lungu’s dictatorship, thievery, corruption.Release HH our legitimate president…

  5. On the face of it, it sounds noble to help citizens in need. But wait a minute, ….… It is contradictory to say “We have engaged our embassies across the globe to ensure that our people IN NEED OF RETURNING HOME are helped to do so,” and then go on to add “however, those COMFORTABLE WITH THEIR STATUS ABROAD would not be forced to return home”.

Seriously, one cannot be genuinely in need of something and at the same time be genuinely comfortable without it. This is a good example of an oxymoron.

So, I smell a rat. Is this a smoke screen to ‘facilitate’ flying ghost stranded Zambians back home using tax payers’ or borrowed money, which will end up in facilitators pockets?

  6. How is Nick treating you Mushota? Take advantage of this free repatriation and come back home. We need your services at our kalingalinga lady’s hospice.

  7. Let him say Zambians stranded in East Africa the UK Government buys tickets for those wanting to return and give them money to start up when they get there.

  8. Ba Munshya time to stop noise now, transport yamoneka! Come and challenge Edward face to face like a man eg HH, (he he..)
    not from other people’s yards.

    • Iwe @ Kalijo, why do chaps like you think everyone in Zambia is suffering? I can employ you and your loud mouth friend right here in Zambia and probably pay you more than what you get where ever you are. How am I building mansions if I am are suffering as you think. Most of you run to other countries because you have proved to be failures in your own countries.
