State House has dispelled reports that Zambia’s founding President Kenneth Kaunda has died.

Online reports emerged mid day on Thursday that Dr Kaunda, 93, had died in hospital.

But President Edgar Lungu’s Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda said Dr Kaunda is alive and still admitted in hospital.

“Former President HE Kenneth Kaunda was admitted to the university teaching hospital to be treated for a minor ailment. He was rehydrated and judged well and stable enough to be discharged,” Mr Chanda said in a statement.

“But he has been kept in hospital longer than necessary to take advantage of this admission and make him undergo to a routine medical screen after which he is expected to be discharged later today or tomorrow.”

Mr Chanda added, “His minders reported that the former President appeared weak prompting the minister of health to deploy a specialist medical unit to check on him at his residence.”

    • So many healthy people die at UTH. A man in my village went to UTH to cut his index finger nicely, from fishing frick accident. I saw the finger. He took bus. He never came back by bus.

    • Please KK don’t leave us under PF. Even funeral can be a mess. Did you see how they behaved on sata? Thank God the Catholic too over.
And why it that it’s State house shouting and not the Cabinet Office?

  1. He put ZAMBIA on the world map and a lot more.Problem he was human but some people wanted to deify him.
    Continue fighting KK

    • Ohh NOOOOO!!!!! What happened and where??? Mukobeko …. ??? They were worried about that painting….oh my God!! Mutinta said all .

May his soul rest in peace.

    • This happened at midnight when his own saboteurs mistakenly set Kabwe’s Mukobeko Maximum Prison ablaze.

    • It is true. I heard it from an uncle who works in the Prisons services. The government is hiding the story because of fear of Armageddon

    • why bring in HH but no word on mushota s comment above, typical cadre mentality.paid bloggers.wishing KK quick recovery.

  2. KK I’m not happy with u. I personally lost my family during Lenshina period. You sent soldiers to go and kill my people in Chinsali.

The blood of my people are still crying. What is more painful is that u are not even Zambian but killed many zambians.

  3. Dear KK,
Wish you well and a peace of mind, sir. I’ve met a good number of men and women, mostly elderly here in UK who, upon discovering I am a Zambian, fondly remember the symbolism of your white handkerchief. This includes an elderly lady who fondly remembers your sermons at St. Pauls’ Cathedral where you shared your signature message “Man black, man white, man blue, man green, man east, man west, it does not matter…. Man is man created in the image of God Almighty”. Some with tears in their eyes. The recital speaks for itself. Very humbling. Yes, on balance you have fought a good fight, and ran a good race. I wish you peace of mind as you go through the twilight of your life, sir.

  4. KK and PLM will be proven to be the best presidents ever.

High morals and a genuine fight against corruption and thuggery were the cornerstones of their rule……

  5. Had KK been a Catholic and white, he would have been declared a Saint for the whole Catholic Church to pray to God via his name and deeds! He educated most of us, and he built infrastructure still in use today, and some leaders are so brain dead that they even insult him while sitting in buildings which he planned and built! Why, many resodents in all our towns along the line of rail are dwelling in houses which his government built for citizen. In Chingola, we have Chikola “A” and Chikola”B” as examples of his fabulous work! Long live KK. I would vote for you if you desired to stand to be president of Zambia even for 6 months while we sort out the rot in our midst!

    • Did he educate you with his money or did he build infrastructure with ndalama zanyina he was supposed to invest in Education and infrastructure anyway as a leader, you stup.id *****.

  6. KK was instrumental in saving several British prisoners during the first Iraq war back in 1991, KK was also very instrumental in securing the Lancaster House agreement which saw Zimbabwe getting independence. Yes he was not perfect and did make mistakes but even on the home front he really tried to see that Zambia should become an agricultural based economy by setting up a major agricultural project in each province: Copperbelt-Mixed Farming, Luapula- Tea and Bananas, Eastern- Groundnuts and Cotton, Kabwe- Cotton, Maize and Mixed farming, Southern- Maize, Western- Cashew Nuts and Rice, NWestern- Pineapples.

Why wasn’t KK giving a Kighthood by HM Queen Elizabeth II? Mugabe who committed crimes such as the killing of 50,000 of my Ndebele brothers was given a Kighthood in the early 80s…

    • He was offered a MBE by HM QE II but declined it, Bob M however will grab anything, however it was revoked in the 90’s.

  7. Despite of the economy crisis we went through. I thank UNIP for free mazoe and bread used to have on independence day…

God bless you. No one is perfect. We are all human with all kinds of elements.

  8. @Nose demons always wants to dwell on the negative, like all Under Fives. UTH is an institution that has challenges like all institutions. I had a very good time there and learned my med there! What a hospital!

    • @Sharon,
Thank you, such a fantastic example of UTH products, spending time at PF websites, instead of studying books and attend to patients.
Your patient Sharon will die if you busy on YouTube.

  9. I applaud KK for not being afraid if UTH. Had it been other politicians, they would have rushed to Morningside, India or Europe.

  10. So what if Kaunda dies?? Why should someone cry over his death? He is 93 he has lived his life..let’s cry if a baby dies in hospital due to negligence or lack of better health care let’s cry for our poor mothers who travel long distances in search for better health care lets cry for mother Zambia for peace to prevail lets cry for ourselves so that God delivers us from our sinful ways..

  11. Kaunda had his ‘heroic failures’, like Nyerere. I say heroic because it was not for lack of trying. He had his failings as a political animal, yet compared to some of the characters that have come after him, he is a saint. Some bloggers are stating that it was not his money to invest, but he did INVEST. In the education of the nation, in medical facilities and in inculcating a sense of community spirit. He had his check ups at UTH whose standards were to behold. Today, where is the investment in state education and the health system? Politicians look after themselves and their own by seeking schooling and health elsewhere. Today we have a nation characterised by selfishness, individualism, negative ethnic sentiments and politics that has no civility or values. The younger generation has…

  12. I will remember KK for his shrewdness, for unilaterally breaking the Barotseland Agreement without getting back to the round-table and for his political nimble footedness!

  13. apparently Dora Slit died last night, of neuro syphilis! But she vowed on her death bed that she has spread it right through the PF cabinet through Nyewe! Iyo state funeral nainangu ya oneka, ala!
