The call by Siavonga District Commissioner Lovemore Kanyama on President Edgar Lungu to split Southern province has been received with mixed feelings.

Speaking during the people’s Debate Program on Pan African Radio, National Restoration Party (NAREP) Lusaka District information and publicity Secretary Richard Malilwe has challenged the Siavonga District Commissioner to give reasons for picking Southern Province out of the ten provinces in Zambia.

And Malilwe has accused the Siavonga DC that he only wants southern Province to be divided owing to his ethic group agenda which will not be a good move for Zambia.

“Lovemore Kanyama only wants southern Province to be divided due to his ethic group agenda which will not be a good move for Zambia” Malilwe said

    • Realistically if you have extensively traversed Southern province and taken interest in understanding the social stratas of the province, you will appreciate this call. It is no different to what happened to the birth of Muchinga province that had to absorb Mpika and Chana districts from NP and EP. Proximity to regional power center matters in development. SP has some serious disparities in socio-economical and decision making space. The poor people of the valley are under captivity of a few greedy plateau plutocrates. There is no better call than a this one with a spirit for efficacy through splitting of SP. Ask the Goya people their thoughts.

  1. Every thing lungu does goes further to prove that he did not win the elections. Only a loser who is scared can continue to try and destablise opposition. He knows that southern is UPND’s stronghold and that the southerners are a majority of intelligent people who will never vote for a dog like him. So only way to ensure he can continue stealing elections is through causing division. Lungu needs to die and i call upon nature to do its things. amen

    • It would be suicidal for Zambians to vote upnd into power, these guys are not innovative but primitive. Surely when you divide a region into portions you are allowing for much more efficiency and when you build more districts you bring power and development close to the people, this is not rocket science!

    • Iwe ka ndanje uli Shani. A few of us political comrades are going for ama brown bottles pa weekend. U are invited

    • Are you drunk even before drinking. No where did I mention anyone was going to buy you a drink. Who are you kiki kwati uli gelo

  2. Yes the idea of splitting Southern Province into 2 is very well thought out. Any split except that which secedes any province from the rest of Zambia is welcome. Split it so those who belong to other tribes other than the largest tribe can live in peace in their own areas. We won’t have the political violence that occurred after elections where the minority people from other tribal parts of Zambia were violated, killed and had their property seized by the majority tribe.

Also, we can increase the numbers of other Zambian tribes in Southern province so that election count will show a less polarised anit-govn’t tribal voting pattern. Clearly the ploy to send in young, strong males from other tribes to go in an marry those gorgeous Tonga girls hasn’t worked! Let’s try this split.

  3. Am sure the proposed split is trying to look at the development agenda. If there is another agenda, it will not work. The valley people are very militant and no one can blackmail them into voting for PF in its current form. The developmental aspirations of the Tonga people will remain the same. No amount of divide and rule will work. The borders wil be artificial. People will remain the same.

  4. To start with the idea by Mr sata to remove chirundu and itezhitezhi was wrong and a move against what the chiefs themselves had suggested. If you check your notes well, you will recall that senior chief mukuni had said then that they had requested for the split with livingstone being part of lower zambezI province to be administered from gwembe. The idea was to open up the valley for development. The major reason of poverty in the valley is not segregation but climate based. While the main economic activity of tongas and ilas is bukachema, rain patterns in the valley is poor. The best solution is that of chiefs. First return itezhitezhi and chirundu. Then split as the chiefs had agreed. You will notice that the way the chiefs decided the split was good as they gave more…

    • @Monde, you are opening our eyes, we just hear Plateau and valley people etc. Just what is the issue at hand? Provide the rich data.

    • Mr panda, tongas reside in both the valley and plateau, everything was OK until the kariba dam project came, the tongas who were heavily dependent on conducting farming activities along the banks of the Zambezi were pushed further into the much harsh terrain of the valley, but with resilience people always rise above any challenge, do you know that the valley produces more hardy animals you call goats in the entire country.

  5. division of provinces, districts and redrawing of boundaries should be a major policy direction to speed up development .the earlier people begin to believe that things will never remain static the better

  6. The split of the province is meant to develop the area just like Muchinga was split from Northern province. This will mean doubling the amount budgeted for the province hence development. I urge people not to always think politically and feel politically threatened by some good decisions meant to better the lives of the people.
Remember this is our Zambia and our heritage. We are all obliged to develop this country and leave it with our children as a better country to live in .

    • Imagine as if we were born PF or UPND and yet we were born Zambians, me I fail to understand why UPND brought this animosity.

  7. Malilwe, don’t be so shallow in your analysis of issues, effective and efficient service delivery is dependent on how manageable a given area is, How does that imply buying the some Sp people into voting for pf. Who told you that Zambia will for ever be ruled by PF? All GRAZ wants is to maximize service and development delivery to people. Indeed as some alluded to already, Muchinga is such a case study.

  8. Everytime i visit chirundu and ithezithezi i still feel the southern vibe. Whoever thought removing these two towns from Southern would do him good was dead wrong and is a nerd.

  9. Yaaaaaaaaaa you are happy about dividing and creation of districts and provinces, where do you think money will come from to develop if not from borrowing? Jay Jay, Spark lilo, NEZ can you please tell us?

  10. In other countries professional Town & Regional Planners are the right guys to drive such development unlike in Zed – chiefs, dc’s, illiterate politicians councillors, ward chairmen and I’d.iots….eg William banda, gbm, mumbi phiri, kadansa et al a experts. ..

  11. The only province that should be divided for now is central province. look at the distance from serenje from mumbwa. And consider population too.
