The MMD has called on the people of Southern Province to help dispel the tribal notion by embracing other political parties

Speaking when he addressed party officials from three districts at Monze Hotel MMD National Secretary Raphael Nakacinda said the people in the province were not tribal but that the tag has been put on them by politicians who wants to use it as a campaign tool.

Mr Nakacinda said the province should welcome political parties that have the interest of the nation at heart as that is the only way the country will develop.

He said it is important that people in the area elect their leaders on merit and capacity to deliver adding that the province will never produce a President if they isolated themselves because other regions would also vote for their own.

He said his party demonstrated when they were in power that there was only one Zambia by ensuring that people from all the provinces participated in the running of government.

And speaking earlier Provincial Chairperson for Southern Province Oliver Pelete bemoaned the harassment of members by members of the UPND in Monze.

Mr Pelete said members of the UPND and some former party officials who went to the UPND with Nevers Mumba are harassing members when they try to mobilize the party.

He said Monze and Pemba districts was proving to be more difficult than other districts as the two districts are home to the wife of the founding father of the UPND and the president of the party respectively.

He was however quick to mention that the provincial leaders would not be intimidated nto giving up the province which has accepted the MMD due to the development it took to the province when it was in power.

The party National Execitive Commitee was on a mobilization tour of Southern province.

  1. No one is born tribal and It is funny that the tribal mark only comes about closer to election times. The people of southern province are very hard working people who cannot be bought. The majority there believe in change and therefore no matter how much bribery pf take there they are just wasting their time. The southerners are self sufficient with successful animal and crop farming. On top of that add tourism and best schools. Only an ignorant person would want visionless lungu to lead them

    • Why not thank them for helping your MMD defeat KK in 1991,by giving you 99% votes to chiluba a luapulan. While your tribal cousins remained umodzi kumawa with KK.

    • At that time anything would have beaten KK. Unfortunately people like VJ had dented reputation both locally and internally. The only clean and popular person at that time was one and only FTJ aka Kafupi.

    • flag Divide & Rule – in your dullness you fail to understand that had the Eastern Province voted the way the rest of the country did, you would have jumped from One Party democracy to another One Party democracy.

    • Ndanje if you looking for an apology for your woman cheating with a strong stamina southerner you will not get it from hh.

    • Which hole have you crawled from ? HH has denounced tribalism on several platforms. Who was singing Wako ni Wako in the last campaign? Was it HH ?

  2. In Zambia there is no tribalism……. WHY WAISTING YOUR TIME QUESTIONING PEOPLE FROM SOUTHERN PROVINCE…REFFER TO THE ARCTILE FROM Dr. Habaazoka.

  3. Have never heard HH denounce tribalism or violence let alone even when he was with Munkombwe even when he was being put on as UPND president when it was said that UPND is for the Tongas, let him say it for everyone to hear.

  4. Don’t make us laugh. Mention any particular time when he distanced himself from Sejani’so “Upnd is for Tongas ” and Munkombwe’so “It’s time for a Tonga to rule “. An ordinary Tonga may not be tribal but he can become so if such utterances are not rubbished by your leadership.

  5. @flag Divide & Rule – In 1991 people were not voting for an individual or the party (MMD) we voted for change from one party rule to multiparty (change) so if anyone wants to thank anyone should thank all Zambians not Southerners only, if not so why the change of voting where only UPND is being voted in Southern no any other party not even 1/3 of the votes to other parties.

  6. No one is tribal in Zambia but politicians divide people so they can have a potion of Zambians just for themselves.
Politicians are not fair with masses they like dividing people for their own gain they like riding one the ignorance of people, they treat humans as commodities.
They tell lies and inspire people to hate each other while they dine with their competitors in the night and laugh together as friends , that is the hypocrisy of politics , really they don’t mean what they encourage people to do , they leave everything in the political arena and go home as any one in the street .

  7. There’s a reason why nakatomba oh sorry nakachinda mentioned southern province and not cb or luapula.

  8. I grew up in Zambia and there areany many selling points about Zambia, but the biggest one for me has always been that Zambian were one Nation. What happened. Why have you become like Zimbabweans? Why? It does jot help you, as a country to head down that road.

  9. The people of Southern Province who are not tribal had told Sakwiba Sikota, “You cannot become a President of UPND because you are not Tonga!” This was following the death of Mazoka! Judge for yourself! They forgot that to win an election in Zambia you need all peoples.

  10. Everybody seems to be blaming each other for tribalism , I have read a lot of what most of you comment about and please stop being hypocritical . I wont mention names but there is a certain person who is always discrediting and insulting tongas and how come this person is now pointing fingers at others and calling them tribalists ? This new zambian aggression is so primitive and backward … territorial votting happens even in the west, especially where you have divisive leaders and in zambia’s case, all parties are guilty of tribalism, and that includes pf !
