The Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) has nabbed four suspects in Mufulira for being in illegal possession of six pieces of elephant ivory weighing 10 Kilograms.
Ministry of Tourism and Arts Public relations officer Sakabilo Kalembwe said in a statement today that the suspects who include two teachers were apprehended in Mufulira after being found with the ivory.
Mr kalembwe said they are currently arrested in Kalulushi and will appear in court soon.
He noted that  the Department would like to echo that the organization would stick to its mandate of wildlife law enforcement and caution people against illegal wildlife trade.
Meanwhile, DNPW would like to assure members of the public not to panic about three lions that were reported to be roaming in Siavonga.
Mr Kalembwe said the DNPW’s research team has sent a veterinary doctor on the ground who has since confirmed that the last sighting of the cats’ tracks was around Namomba Village where they had also killed a goat.
He said there findings indicate that the lions appear to have crossed into Zimbabwe. Our officer is still on the ground to make sure that all is well.
Diversification from teacher to poacher, Discuss? 25 marks.
Were the teachers doing some Chongololo Project or just got involved trying to increase their household income? Its crazy thing. As for the lions I am they were on a safari and wont be a danger to members of the public. The locals should go about their daily business.
Do we now have Elephants in Mufulira? Awe these Teachers ni ba mafya.
If tracks of lions were found, how were they lost? Did the lions cross the river where no people could trace the tracks on the other side? ZAWA do not have cameras set around in the bush? Call those who sell documentories on DSTV.
