City of Refuge Ministries Overseer Pastor Kangwa Chileshe says police have now allowed him to hold a thanksgiving ceremony on the day of his choice.

This follows the move by police yesterday to block the thanksgiving prayers at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross for UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema following his release from prison.

Pastor Chileshe told QTV News that police canceled yesterday’s thanksgiving ceremony on the basis that he did not get a police permit to organize such a gathering.

He said following his summoning by the Lusaka province Police Command yesterday, he was told that he needed to write to the Ministry of Religious Affairs notifying the Minister of the event.

Pastor Chileshe, however, argues that in his twenty years of ministering, he has never been stopped by authorities on the pretext that he did not get a police permit.

Pastor Chileshe explained that when he attempted to enter the premises of the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, he was denied entry by the police.

He says he was later in the day called back by Lusaka Province Police Commissioner Nelson Phiri informing him that National Guidance and Religious Affairs Minister Reverend Godfridah Sumaili had given the go ahead for the prayers on the day of his choice.

Pastor Chileshe has since stated that he will communicate the new date on which the prayers will be held.

    • The pastor should not pretend. He is very much aware that with the introduction of the ministry of religious affairs. Any church invent of this size including crusades should be registered with the ministry. The ministry then informs the police about the event. He is a pastor so he should be up to date with the law esp regarding his area. Our small church recently organized a crusade and that is what we did. Nothing polical here please.

  2. This is just a delaying tactic by lungu regime, after the out cry by citizens with complaints registering all over the place……that prayer session will not go ahead, the plaster has been warned, the venue has been warned.

Again thank you the gallant citizens who refused to be mere spectators as our country slides into dictatorship…..thank you to all who took time to register your concerns on the Vatican web site……

  6. HH should go to any Adventist church and worship the Lord in truth and spirit. Genuine prayers should not be politicised. It is the ardent prayers that are answers. Other politician who are not catholics know that God is not only in the cathedral but also in other churches. Catholic members are many and when someone is invited for prayer meetings , he does not see them as christians but perceives them as potential voters or a vehicle to take him to plot one

  7. The requirement to get permission from a government minister to pray is bad law, if at all it is now law. These are the laws that bring unnecessary tension and acrimony in the land. Why bring such a law now, what are they afraid of?

    • In reality this is a political gathering – who do you think you can cheat that it is a thanksgiving for a politician? Where in Zambia’s history did we have such?

  9. JAYD, leave people to pray as they please. They can pray in cathedrals, homes, churches or even classrooms. You can organise such a prayer meeting if you so wish.

  11. It’s a requirement naimwe ba pastor,we all organise functions of that nature and all of us follow the same process, it’s not just being applied to this gathering ,the problem is that you wanted to play politics ,I know you wanted people to know and read about you, which is not right for a man of God.

    • Of what nature naimwe….how many calls to thanks giving prayers are carried out every week in Zambia, who told you they get permits ???

IT is only the name HH that is scaring lungu and kapoyongo…..

  12. Pipo stop being naïve and giving HH false hopes. How can PF be scare of a perpetual loser. Look at how many professionals of all walks of life assisted HH in the last elections. Talk about the underground ones like Dipak, Vernon etc, he still lost. How can we be scared of a 5 times loser.

  14. The real reason why you have terrorist activity or terrorism in the Middle East is because the governments control Islam. When you mix Politics and Religion the obvious result is terror. You cannot regulate religion. Religion by itself is a freeing agent. Even Jesus Himself said the truth shall set you free. So how then should the government regulate you when religion set’s you free?

  15. Reading comments from upnd rats such as “spaka like lilo”,makes me sad for mother Zambia.for them anything pro HH is very decent thing which should be supported by all Zambians.
Look,we had a church conference at 10 miles last we week and we got permission from ZP.plus whenever we are having overnight prayers,we always get permission from ZP.PLEASE BA UPND CADRES,ASK HOW IT IS DONE BEFORE YOU EMBARRASS YOURSELVES!!!
few days or months ago, many upnd cadres blamed those who used to call themselves “CHRISTIANS FOR LUNGU”.SAYING PASTORS MUST NOT INVOLVE THEMSELVES IN POLITICS.but since this pastor Kangwa hired by GBM to show that upnd is not a tonga party is pushing a pro HH agenda,he is loved by all upnd cadres!!SO ITS SHOCKING HOW UPND CADRES THINK!!

    • But the PF rats can lie…..they tell lies in the morning, at mid day they tell lies at sunset they are telling lies at midnight before they sleep they are still telling lies…..

  16. Lusaka Province Police Commissioner Nelson Phiri said the police cancelled the prayer event because the organisers had wrong motives.

Now the meeting has no wrong motives. And HH is not involved? I am confused.

    What a disaster!

    • Politics never mixes with Christianity. Ask sda about this and they will explain to you prophetically. Charismatics ie katolika and pentes modern day Christians are far from true Bible Christians that’s why with them they don’t see any danger mixing politics and church.

  17. There are so many people who get released from prison, why should this pastor chose to do a thanks giving on this HH?? Police are doing a commendable job. This was political, why for a particular person,? As a man of God he should not segregate when doing such….what is so special about the release of HH? LEETS BE SERIOUS WITH ISSUES BANE

    • you are the people bringing politics into it. HH is just not a person He is the president of the UPND the strongest opposition party in the country and if it were not for locking him up all this should not be happening now. Guys let us reason sensibly.

      0

      0
    • When the President called for prayers it was alright but when HH is called to thank God for his release it is bad. Zambians Zambia is a democracy allow the opposition to also pray and please leave the pastor also to conduct prayers for whom ever he wants. Knowing the heart of our pastor he wants to do more than pray. You will see how the heart of HH will change. Give pastor a chance we need such heart changing prayers. There is alot of hate and hurt in Zambia allow the pastor pray and see the changes it wll do to hearts.

  18. How many times did pf lost elections to MMD under sata..if dont know it was since 2001. Twice against Mwanawasa and once against RB. wasnt PF a perptual looser at that tym?

    • Sata lost 3 times and accepted the will of the people.
2011, or the 4th time, he bagged the trophy.

Our tribal empire builder has lost 5 times and promised Armageddon in the last election.
Instead of the 10 point plan, only the 11th plan was prepared for.

Please pastor put HH’ s deliverance on the agenda

  19. Does it mean we now need the Minister of Religion’s approval and a Police Permit to pray to God in our respective Churches? Has the motive of this thanks giving prayer changed? Is Godfridah Musumali and Commissioner Phiri now equated to Jesus Christ? This Chipante pante Govt is blasphemous and God will punish Sadist and Dictator Lungu and his Criminal Advisers. Time will tell.

  20. Pastor Chileshe later releases the tape of his recording of his discussion with Police Commissioner Phiri on social media. It is all over. What was the intention to embarrass Phiri? How do you work with people like this, who think everything is a joke? Phiri was only doing his work. Does UPND if it will ever come into power have a police service that has no discipline? Pastor Chileshe should be thankful that he was allowed to go ahead with his celebration of HH release from prison. What he is planning can hardly be called a church service. In a multi party system police have a tough job to undertake. I hope people like pastor Chileshe understand that.

  21. Its good the police have allowed the Pastor to hold.the Thanksgiving prayers for HH. If it is from God, it will be a productive event. If it is from the evil one it will also be revealed. God doesnt like to be mocked.
Allow HH to even hold Rallies .Let all those who have time and those who dont have better things to do attend, Give him enough rope to hang himself. Let him however follow the law. It wouldn’t make sense for him to hold a public rally on Cairo Road. There a lot of Zambians like me who have put elections behind us.Life cannot be about HH . We have other things to do.

    0

    0
    • They can not allow rallies , its extreme paranoya baba , lungu and kapoyongo see hh in everything they do…..even when he was jailed they still were seeing HH every where.. ..

  23. In recent weeks we have had at least one decision by Lungu reversed by Lungu and his fellow conspirators. I wonder what his admirers like Senior Citizen will say on this one.
The other thing is I don’t understand Amos Chanda’s role in Lungu’s administration and I’m not sure if Chanda himself knows his responsibilities. He comments foolishly and arrogantly on any issue as if to irritate Zambians.

  25. This is really stupid. They want to make this ministry relevant when we all know it was created out of nepotistic intentions. Police now want another ministry to issue permits
Under what law? People shouldn’t just create their own laws. Do churches get permits for Sunday meetings where they end up praying for peace?

  26. Prayers for what naimwe ba bemba monkey? These UPNDonkeys are just devil worshippers, no wonder the police were suspicious. Where did you hear that UPNDonkeys are praying? No wonder the police service denied them a permit. I would be equally suspicious of donkeys.

  27. What if the pastor was led by the holly spirit to hold thanksgiving prayers for HH ? Who are you to question why someone feels the need to pray with fellow believers? You people sound like you enjoy being controlled and persecuted even when you can see the wrongs in your leaders. Which christian country stops fellow Christians from holding prayers? Is it because of the name HH ? No wonder you allowed yourselves to be colonised all those years ago, instead of sharing power . Oh yes … you have now allowed the Chinese to colonize you now !! And you sold your own into slavery !! You’re treating HH like he is not your fellow Zambian. Your nasty mentalities deter you from progress… why cant you see good ness in this thanksgiving arrangement?

  28. Churches exist for a reason. For pastors to conduct prayer worship and such. There is nothing stopping these churches from declaring any particular congregetional a thanksgiving service for their god HH. But yet they want a stadium mass movement to forment anarchy. Why are churches so ambiguous, wanting the best of both worlds? This is not about thanksgiving.I see Lucifer trying to paralyze govt and inciting civil disobedience. Shame on you bastards er i mean Pastors! That is why you ran me out of your so called churches, politicalsidebars really!

  29. HH oval head, i agree with you.It is the same HH and his political ambition that has brought division and hatred in the adventist church .Hatred among tongas and other tribes

    • correction mama waluse. HH did not bring tribalism or hate in the adventist church. tribalism was brought in by the PF during campaigns mainly CK and MUMBI ETC. then came the christians for LUNGU? the word christian derives from the word Christ. So who brought it on. I have never heard the UPND use tribal talk during their campaigns.

  30. It’s called informing in written and not permit, then the police service writes back to you yes or no with reasons, it’s not a permit to hold prayers on worshipping days in our regular churches, it’s an event not a regular church service, pastor Chileshe in moving from his church and he is inviting other people from other churches to worship with him for a reason which I believe is politically related agree or not because not every other persons are released from prison and a church service is held, why is it that we want to a right out of a wrong, this really is the way to reason mwe Bantu ,let’s be civil and not always confrontational, awe

  32. There is nothing wrong notifying the authorities about holding the Thanks giving service for HH’s release from prison. Its as simple as that follow the procedures and avoid breaking the law. Its Mwikala Pa Lalala. Why do people don’t read the situation on the ground. Ba Pastor don’t forget article 31 (Declaration of State of Emergency) is still active. We are a country of laws and let us follow the law.
