Kitwe and Kabwe Youth qualify to Barclays Cup quarterfinals

Division one sides Kitwe United and Kabwe Academy have advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2017 Barclays Cup after winning their respective pre-quarterfinal ties on Wednesday in Lusaka.

In the lunchtime match, striker Emmanuel Chabula scored the only goal when debutantes Kitwe overcame Swallows 1-0 at Nkoloma Stadium.

Chabula scored in the 36th minute to send the Buchi Boys into the quarterfinals where they will face Zesco United on September 27 on the
Copperbelt.

Later at Nkoloma, Kabwe Academy beat National Assembly 5-4 on penalties after a 2-2 in regulation time.

In regulation time, Assembly scored through Barnabas Nyirenda and Peter Chinyama, while Amity Shamenda and Daniel Chama scored for victorious Kabwe.

Kabwe will now face Lusaka Dynamos in the last eight.

In the other quarterfinals, Zanaco will face Power Dynamos with Napsa Stars confronting Green Buffaloes.

Winners of this year’s Barclays Cup will get K350,000 and runner ups will pocket K180,000.

  1. Too little – this is nothing. It is very difficult to encourage the youth to indulge into sports in this country because of stingy sponsors.
