“The Commission would like to commend all political parties and candidates participating in the elections for conducting peaceful campaigns.

“The Commission would also like to remind all political parties and candidates to stop all campaign activities at the end of the campaign period today , September 13, 2017 at 18:00 hours,” Ms Chimanse said.

And all is set for tomorrow’s by – election for the Lunte Town Council Chairperson’s seat. District Electoral Officer Mwansa Mfula says the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has already started dispatching poll staff to conduct this Thursday’s election.

Mr. Mwansa adds that elections officials in the area are ready to conduct the election. He said Voter education has been adequately conducted in the new district adding that a huge turnout was expected during tomorrow’s polls.

All the three candidates participating in the election have expressed optimism of scooping the seat. Among the candidates are the PF’s Simon Chanda and PND’s Lazaruos Chongo.

The aspiring candidates have promised to work for the people and deliver development when voted into office. Northern Province police commissioner Richard Mweene has described the campaigns as peaceful and incident free.

He said the police in the area are hopeful that voters in Lunte will turn out in large numbers on polls day so as to elect their leader in a credible, free and fair atmosphere.

  1. Not getting facinated by all these inconsequential bye-elections. More than ever before, i share a sense of urgency with a patriotic burden to call on more experienced and wise patriotic intellectuals to appreciate need to step forward for service to mother Zambia. Mother Zambia needs her ntelligensia to get involved and not remain aloof apoliticals. Put your heards with like minds for national causes and momentum. Every Zambian is a potential leader at community, civic, legislative to executive level. Money is not a problem with common good.

    • The duty to deliver equitable development is squarely on the shoulders of every Zambian and not foreigners in Chinese, or Westerner capialist loaders coming in all strips and narratives we buy in without screening. The level of poverty and disillusionment among the people is beyond one person solving. All natural resources and levers of the economy are taken with joblessness among millennials at combustible levels. Neo-liberalism has screwed us big time. Lets correctively arrest the situation for the common good.

    • I have no confidence in the ECZ being the cause of the impasse must be reconstituted and reformed to be independent of political manipulation by any ruling government going forward and the Constitutional Court must be reconstituted or reformed for competence, capacity and independence of political undue influence as well …lol

    • @Enka HOW ABOUT SAYING:
“I WISH THE PETITIONER’S LAWYERS IN ZAMBIA HAD TANGIBLE EVIDENCE AND WERE AS TACTFUL ENOUGH AS THE PETITIONERS IN THE KENYAN ELECTIONS TO PERSUADE THE CONCOURT TO ANNUL THE ELECTIONS”

    • IT IS NOT THE CONCOURT BA DALA. IT IS THE VOTERS. ESPECIALLY FROM THE 6.5 PROVINCES. FOR AS LONG AS THE VOTERS FROM THESE PROVINCES DO NOT ENDORSE YOU, THEN YOU ARE DOOMED. JUST PARK YOUR POLITICAL BAGS AND TRY SOMETHING ELSE. EVEN THE CONCOURT WILL NOT SAVE YOU.

    • I don’t have confidence in the ECZ too.How I wish it was an independent commission. Her appointment was a strategic move by criminal Chakolwa Reed Kadansa Kamwendo Lungu and his fellow pf thugs…

  2. ECZ is no longer a credible organisation to be entrusted with elections. It’s a discredited body staffed by unprofessional and morally depraved individuals at Judas Iscariot level working in cahoots with a totally rotten justice system.

  3. This girl hasn’t made much progress in life compared to Dora. I mean, they read news together at ZNBC. Anyway, she did not open her legs to every Dick like Dora Silit where a Katangese is now ploughing!

  4. Geee!! ECZ? LAUNDERED? The elections work at 50% efficient up to poling station only. Beyond this the PF change figures in their strongholds like Northern Luapula and pets of CB and Lsk
    Ballot Thieves.

  5. Absolutely No confidence in ECZ until all the alleged Irregularities and illegalities are heard and determined in a Court of Law. The Petition must be heard without fail and ECZ must account for the 2016 rigged Elections and ECZ officials involved in the rigging must account as individuals. As long as Essau Chulu remains Chairman of ECZ the Commission’s Image and Reputation will remain soiled. The fish rots from the Head downwards. Just like in Kenya the Petition must be heard.

  6. “Perfect Elections?” Meaning the chronic loser must be pushed in through the back door? I think you need to spare yourselves of the chronic amnesia! The guy has lost five times before. He will lose again in four years’ time!

  7. Our ECZ is not professional ,credible and independent enough so the Kenyan outcome must shed new light on our flawed system.

  8. Parallel line will never ever cross each other, so comparing the two nations Zambia and Kenya is as good as saying the mindset of Kenyans is the same as that of Zambians which is not the truth. We are all created the same but we differ in the way we perceive and do things.
Zambia is totally different from Kenya so brothers don’t thing what happens in Kenya should also happen in Zambia, we have our own constitution and judicial system …….

  9. Last general elections were marred by lack of G12 where the PF found room to rig the elections. How were the presidential and parliamentary elections results showed big gaps in favour of PF as was the case in Lusaka. The pattern was so clear even to a grade 2 pupil that the results were manipulated by ECZ to allow PF win illegally. You can’t have Edgar Lungu getting 80 000 votes while his MP getting 35,000 votes. Where were the other votes coming from because each voter is given one ballot paper. Zambians don’t want anymore cheating as it is not christian but barbaric.
