Shepolopolo have thumped Malawi 6-3 in their opening Group A match of the 2017 COSAFA Women’s Championship that kicked off on Wednesday in Zimbabwe.

The Zambian women recovered from a goal down to overcome a determined Malawean side in the lunch time match at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo.

Midfielders Barbara Banda and Misozi Zulu scored a brace each with Captain Noria “Mbesuma” Sosala and substitute Rachael Nachula scoring the other two goals.

Malawi led after six minutes when Captain Tabitha Chawinga beat Zambian goalkeeper Hazel Nali.

Chawinga went on to score two more goals to register a hat-trick.

Striker Sosala equalised in the 12th minute before Zulu helped Zambia to take a 2-1 lead with a 17th minute strike.

Coach Albert Kachinga’s women took a 3-2 lead into the half time break thanks to Banda’s 23 minute goal as Chawinga scored her second on the day.

Later in the second half there were goals from Zulu, Lungu and Nachula.

Meanwhile, Zambia’s Banda was voted Woman of the Match.
