UPND President Hakainde Hichilema says his party is prepared for a genuine and meaningful dialogue process as a means of resolving national issues.

Mr Hichilema said the dialogue process is a prerequisite to focus on the core business of uplifting the welfare of the people.

He was speaking shortly after the UPND senior leadership held another meeting with Commonwealth Special Envoy for the Zambian dialogue talks Prof Ibrahim Gambari for the second time since the envoy came to Zambia last week.

“On our part, we presented what we believe are some of the key issues that the country must address in order to cure some of the ills of the past as we move forward in peace and prosperity based on the respect for the rule of law,” Mr Hichilema said.

He added, “We have always stood for meaningful dialogue as a means to resolving issues affecting our country as that is a prerequisite to focus on the core business of uplifting the welfare of our people.”

The meeting took place at Intercontinental hotel in Lusaka.

Mr Hichilema presented a dossier of evidence to support the party’s concerns about the political problems facing the country.

He was accompanied by senior party officials including Vice President Geoffrey Mwamba, Chairperson Mutale Nalumango, Secretary General Steven Katuka, Spokesperson Charles Kakoma , Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Jack Mwiimbu, UPND Whip in Parliament Garry Nkombo and Chairman for International Relations Ambassador Mulondwe Muzungu.

Prof Ibrahim Gambari is also scheduled to meet President Edgar Lungu on Thursday for the second time since he came to Zambia.

He has held several meetings with stakeholders to gather information about the Zambian situation.

    • Nambala 1. Zambia should do away with noisy campaigns involving cadres. Instead let candidates present themselves in fora where they can sell their manifestos, please please we are tired of primitive campaigns this is the 21st century for the love of money!
Nambala 2. During rallies do not ship cadres from outside towns.
Nambala 3. Parliament should appoint the person who is to head the ECZ

    • What a document?? this people can kill with all those grievances.. believe me heaven cannot open for you if you are that bitter… what of iff PF also writes such a document what can happen?

    • Zambia has a rich history of mediating and arbitrating political conflicts in peace initiatives for many years. It is for this reason that the UN mandate made then Ambassador Rupiah B. Banda the first Namibian President. The Zambian Interparty Dialogue Forum has in the past carried itself very effectively. What is this self humiliating flagrance for shuttle diplomacy of a Nigerian when his country is in turmoil worse than peaceful Zambia. What is insurmountable we cannot internally address? Stop these foreign agendas and learn from history.

    • AS AN ASPIRING LEADER – SERVANT OF THE PEOPLE- YOU ARE SUBJECT AND OBJECT TO THE ZAMBIAN PEOPLE. THEM ALONE HOLD THE KEY TO USHER YOU TO PLOT ONE. WHEN I SAY ZAMBIAN PEOPLE, I MEAN THE UNIQUE AND ELITE MAJORITY WHO MAKE IT HAPPEN THROUGH THE BALLOT.
      ==================================
No amount or rhetoric will land you a place in Zambia’s biggest public service office. No amount of international grouping or interest will replace the faithful Zambian people’s wish in the Nation. If you cannot heed the repeated calls for talks in Zambia by Zambians, no amount of international figures will move us. Come back to earth HH, come back to Zambia. See you have misplaces priorities. Spell ZAMBIA!

    • For those comparing with the Kenyan court outcome, you must understand the following.

The Kenyan opposition had valid issues, they did not base their argument on falsehood.

They did not go to court to start killing time with the so called preliminary tactics against self.

But, alas, ours were definite time wasters! And quite malicious.

    • @ Pompos
Nambala 4 and tied to Nambala 1: All presidential aspirants must submit to a live debate mandatorily on both radio and television moderated by a journalist or senior citizen chosen by the general citizenry through a selection process over a determined period for submission of preferred moderator choices accompanied by questions that hinge on issues of interest to determine how each aspirant would address the challenging issues

  1. Dialogue can only commence if the court is willing to hear the petition case! Furthermore, LUNGU to should not threaten opposition with imprisonment if he is not recognised because he knows in his own heart that he NEVER WON ELECTIONS.
UPND WON it is the FACT

  2. As long as you don’t hype it up beyond reality and you don’t project yourself as a partner seated on a high horse. Love (and not pride) is still the only solution in any dialogue.

Meanwhile accept the fact: one voice speaks and the nation follows. Just like “Simon Says”.

  3. @3 Mweo and others.., the BASIS for this Commonwealth mediated dialogue is that HH ACCEPTS that the 2016 elections ARE GONE but provide LESSONS FOR REFORMS as RECOMMENDED in REPORT BY EU monitors, the people HH loves a lot and that LUNGU IS PRESIDENT!! The Commonwealth has NOT COME TO REWRITE OUR LAWS as they applied in 2016 but TO FACILITATE DISCUSSIONS so that we can reform our CONSTITUTION and ELECTORAL LAWS and PROCEDURES! The Commonwealth is NOT THE COURT TO HEAR PETITIONS but will guide the two sides to improve elections for 2021!! Therefore WHATEVER EVIDENCE UPND has will be SUMMED UP as ISSUES for discussion to IMPROVE THE CONSTITUTION and ELECTORAL LAWS! DON’T forget, PF also has Lawyers and other experts to present their case!!

    • M2 do you know that it’s been discovered that the High Court Judge was bribed to rule in favor of the opposition? He should pray that Odinga wins, otherwise he’s dead meat.

    • @5.1 M2, the Kenya example is completely different from the Zambian case where in 14 days UPND failed to go to the crux of the case! In Kenya Odinga lost a petition in 2013 as he was just fishing for evidence here and there … this time he seems to have had a water tight case!! But in that case HOW MANY VOTES DID THEY FIND TO HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO UHURU UNFAIRLY THAT WOULD GUARANTEE THAT ODINGA LOST B’COZ OF THOSE VOTES?? But be guaranteed that the Commonwealth HAS NOT COME TO OPEN A CASE THAT FAILED UNDER THE JUDICIAL PROCESS!! THAT IS A CLOSED CASE! The issue now is HOW DO WE FACE 2021 in a better way?? DON’T FORGET THE ATROCITIES COMMITTED BY UPND SUPPORTERS IN THEIR STRONGHOLDS and ABNORMAL VOTER TURN OUT IN ONE PROVINCE!!

    • The Kenyan opposition had valid issues, they did not base their argument on falsehood.

They did not go to court to start killing time with the so called preliminary tactics against self.

But, alas, ours were definite time wasters! And quite malicious.

    • I can see that Upnd don’t seem to see things in the right perceptive. Bwaafya has explained very clearly how the situation is but they still don’t want to understand. It’ll continue even beyond 2021, I am afraid.

  4. Waste of time as whether a dialogue is held or not, president Edgar Lungu shall remain Zambian president until 2021 or even beyond!!
HH must find time to talk to Zambians who vote than complaining to that Mr Gambiri who shall never vote in Zambia!!
For most of us,come 2021 ni PF nafuti nafuti!!

  5. Its not about voting. People voted and very one has an idea of the true outcome. The playing field, the process and the conduct of the voting are the purpose of the dialogue. anybody is entitled to support whoever they want, its a good given right of freedom and that freedom of choice should not be tampered with. emotion and blindness cadre-ism never build a nation, dialogue and objectivity does.

  6. What dialogue? Just encourage your dunderhead MPS to attend parliament where they can push for electoral reforms. As far as the situation is concerned you HH and me are just civilians, you may have a few coins than me but you can’t direct government.

  7. This matter is simple. The Commonwealth is mediating a Dispute mainly between Lungu / PF and HH /UPND. The Dispute is over what? The 2016 Election was Disputed and Petitioned. Lungu wants HH to withdraw the Petition and Recognise him as the Legitimate President of Zambia. To force HH to recognize and withdraw the Petition Lungu jailed HH for 127 days. HH and UPND want their Petition heard in Court and should the Court find that Lungu won the 2016 Election they are ready to recognize Lungu as President. So let the Petitioner be heard in Court. The Mediator should organise the Hearing of the Petition in Court. Chapwa!! Kenya did it why can’t Zambia do it?

    • KIKIKIKIKKIKIKIKI
That is comedy my brother. ECL won HH lost finish! Which court? Very dull indeed like your bosses pamulu…..just check GBM, HH andn the so called J…….ck fimofimo…
ECL is president until 2021…..chaaaaaapwa…just start planning for another loss in 2021 with your dull bosses

    • Chuma, whether hh/upnd recognise or not recognise ecl/of, ecl will continue being in power.ecl/FP would worry if us the zeds say we don’t recognise ecl/of. Hh/upnd need to sit up ecl has said this time around ballots will be printed by grz printers. Hh/upnd you better work very hard to bit ecl come 2021

    • Chuma, whether hh/upnd recognise or not recognise ecl/pf, ecl will continue being in power.ecl/FP would worry if us the zeds say we don’t recognise ecl/of. 8. So unfortunate that Zambia is a nation of 24/7 electioneering & politicking .Even the mighty USA doesn’t do presidential electioneering nonstop.

  9. One year already down in the line of duty of ECL whilst others are still talking about dialogue. Instead of doing the checks and balances to what the nation voted their MPs for in southern, western and north western, UPND is busy talking about dialogue, their electorate is suffering because of luck of voice for them in parliament when it comes for the sharing of the nation cake. The same people will run back to their people and cry that they are neglected in terms of development and yet it’s them who are doing so to their own people.
HH and his platoons must forget about 2016 election results and move on rather than wasting time, this is the time of budget presentation period and review not the time to waste on dialogue issues.
2018 is around the corner, our ruling government should…

  10. he meets Gambrri and says we stand for dialogue

he meets maimane and malema he says something different

he goes to itzhi tezhi he says something different.

meanwhile his friend is watching the moves with a BIG stick

    • Very unprincipled even before he becomes president so what more if he became one. He lied in order to escape from Mukobeko.

  11. ITS THE FIRST TIME IN ZAMBIA’S POLITICAL HISTORY I HAVE HEARD OF DIALOGUE WITH A LOSING OPPOSITION LEADER AND PARTY. WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE ALL ABOUT? MAY BE THE COMMONWEALTH HAS A LOT OF MONEY TO WASTE ON ALLOWANCES. THERE’S NOTHING TO DIALOGUE ABOUT. HH AND HIS PARTY HAVE JUST BEEN PEDDLING LIES AND AM SURE GAMBARI HAS REALIZED THAT THERE ARE NO ISSUES HERE WARRANTING DIALOGUE. WHEN ONE LOSES AN ELECTION HE SHOULD ACCEPT. HH LOST DESPITE INFLATING ELECTION FIGURES IN TONGA LAND AND LOZI LAND! EDGAR IS JUST MAKING A BIG MISTAKE BY ENTERTAINING THIS NONSENSE. GAMBARI MUST DIG DEEPER, AND WILL FIND THAT TONGAS HAVE BEEN VERY SELFISH POLITICALLY SINCE BEFORE ZAMBIA’S INDEPENDENCE, IN FACT THEY CAUSED THE ONE PARTY STATE IN ZAMBIA IN 1973 BECAUSE OF ANOTHER TONGA ( HARRY MWAANGA…

  12. “UPND President Hakainde Hichilema says his party is prepared for a genuine and meaningful dialogue process as a means of resolving national issues.” This is a waste of time. HH should stop wasting the valuableb time of those that are working to better the lives of our people. All he (HH) is doing is make noise. Who is this chap going to dialogue with? In zambia we have only one head of state and that is His Excellency Edgar Chagwa Lungu, incidentally ECL does not appears in HH’s vocabulary so what is this chap talking about. If he needs dialouge he should go and dialogue with Mmusi maimane and Julius Malema. If he wants dialogue with ECL he must publicly conceede defeat and recognise ECL as the sole Head of state in Zambia. Otherwise it will be another futile exercise.

  13. We are very very luck that this man (HH) never made it to state house. This is the kind of leader who will not bring value to our great nation. He has support which has grown but the support base is not enough to gunner a majority vote. This is the very first time in the history of Zambia that we have such immature official opposition. The beauty of democracy is that different people see value in different leaders, I personally see very little if any leadrship quality in HH. Just take three months back and examine his speechess in Zambia and abroad!!! Kambwili would probably make a better and appealing speech than our HH. ECL please do not waste your time on these meaningless dialogue pronouncements by this man whose constituence is only known by himself. You (ECL) are a head of state…

  14. Continue reading.. You (ECL) are a head of state others have nothing to lose. You have the whole nation to take careof, whether or not they voted for you.

  15. Political parties which people suspect of representing foreign interests do not easily get the support of the general citizenry of the country. HH has not helped matters by the way he has behaved after being released from jail. His first mission was to paint ECL black in the eyes of the international community in a foreign country. You can still put your concerns across without being vindictive and pompous. It is time HH started showing patriotism to his country if UPND wants to carry a national identity otherwise he will continue crying that elections have been rigged.

    • It is just a small clique of jealous noisy cadres that like to portray as if they speak on behalf of the people. Which people ba mwakale?

  16. The same cadres vomiting rubbish on this blog, would not understand the meaning of rule of law, can one of them answer just two of the long list of lawlessness committed by you pf president, 1. The law stipulates the President to hand over power to the speaker in the hearing of the partition, why did Mr. lungu commit such an impeachable offence?

    2. The state media should air equally all parties to sell their manifestoes, why should pf monopolize state institutions which law grants them this power?
Respond and say if these are right things to do in a democracy!

  17. Poor Failurooes are too talkative like empty tins. Your leaders claim to know God and yet what u do is horrible and stinking in the eyes of Jehovah God. I urge all of u to check your actions against fellow human beings and see if it befits those who are God’s followers. At the most your actions are devilis. God has his own ways of Rulership which mostly composed of Love.

  18. Mature people concede and quietly and peacefully go away. Immature people linger on and display gross ignorance and wreck the nation’s reputation of peace.

  19. which law when hh was never party to 50%+1.

HE opposed the bill of rights.

    He opposes everythin.

When POST was surpoting pf there were no sales is south

Today sales are highest for membe in south

    WHY

  20. For those comparing with the Kenyan court outcome, you must understand the following.

The Kenyan opposition had valid issues, they did not base their argument on falsehood.

They did not go to court to start killing time with the so called preliminary tactics against self.

But, alas, ours were definite time wasters! And quite malicious.

  21. Only a constitution written in Tonga there’s President should have power yo speaker! You thought that way your HH would go yo state house, HH will never be in state house! Even in Kenya president Kenyata hasn’t handed over to speaker! Tongas very dull!

    • Iwe stop this childish tribalism. You are not impressing anyone who lives here with all sorts of tribes. I wonder what part of the country you are where you don’t live with Tongas.

  22. Yeah right. Meaningful dialogue based on petty squabbles. Why can’t you just join the citizens if Zambia in fighting for an improved economy. Always, Me, Me, Me. We are tired of your moaning from election to election. I mean since President Sata vacated the ruling seat to His Excellency President Lungu, you been groaning and moaning and moaning and groaning.

For what it’s worth, HH your new slender form has made you more handsome! Please adopt a new mind so we may re-evaluate our choices…or not. Parliament us the place to play. Go in and debate for us, challenging any suspicious direction from the gov’t. Fend for us, by keeping in check with them balances.

  23. That big dosser in the picture ??? The dialogue is a non stater. Am sure its taking about things like recount, ECL step down, petition being going back to court etc

  24. “Meaningful dialogue” is a subtle phrase of “incorporate us into government because we actually won but you store the election from us! Government of National Unity!” Backdoor entry because he can’t get it through the ballot! “Vice Presidency!” Meaningful dialogue! Childish politics and a joker this guy and his supporters are!!

    • In effect Upnd are already incorporated in government through MPs, Mayors and councilors. It’s not only when you’re president that’s when you’re part of government. Upnd can do a lot for their people by using these positions to develop their constituency, but they waste time by crying for the “unreachable “

  25. In the US (Maybe they were still breastfeeding) Al Gore lost to President Bush by a decision of the Supreme Court. Al Gore bowed out gracefully even though it was a close race. They (The Supreme Court) couldn’t even agree to a recount! Kenya may be different to! Maybe the judge was from Gwembe Valley!

  26. Kuloleshafye, ama UPNDonkeys!
And that thick book looking like a thesis? Now if it contains evidence why didn’t underfive and Jack Mwiimbu present with their petition in the 14 days that they had? Does underfive think that Prif Hambari has come to read thesis? Look here UPNDonkeys, the good Professor was appointed by Patricia to promote dialogue, not to come and do a thesis on how not cry when you lose elections. The Professor is not here to hear the dead petition either, so no need to present him with that volume of “evidence”. You UPNDonkeys, when you gonna grow up?

  27. Having studied Psychology and Sociology, dialogue is twofold and not just for the benefit of one person or group. This is where the problem lies.

  28. We’re entering the 2nd year since elections and someone is still playing the same CD. I’m afraid this CD will still be playing in 2021 and beyond.

  29. ALL THE POSTINGS ARE NOT ENCOURAGING IN ANY WAY. AM DISAPPOINTED BY CHARACTER SHOWN BY HATERS OF PEACE AND RECONCILIATION .TOO MUCH WITCH HUNTING ,HATE SPEECH, GRUDGES AND LUCK OF RESPECT FOR HUMANITY .WE SHOULD LEARN TO RESPECT EACH OTHER .

  30. I have a view the commonwealth has an agenda non to themselves with upnd, why not midiate in congo ,zimbambwe and others or are they push upnd to state house which is not posible for now i really wonder wat agender they have with hh
