LCC on the roll to exterminate mosquitoes

Share

The Lusaka City Council (LCC) says it has embarked on an integrated partnership with the Lusaka District Health Management Team (DMHT) to control the infestation of mosquitoes in the capital city.

In a press statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka  by LCC acting public relations Manager George Sichimba, the council commenced the exercise on September 29, 2017 with the aim of controlling the swarm of the nuisance mosquitoes in most parts of the city.

The Local authority says it will conduct residual spraying and open drains to reduce the breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

The council has started the exercise in Olympia residential area and will be rolled out to Roma, Garden, Long acres, North mead and Emmasdale townships which are the most infested by mosquitoes in the city.

The Lusaka City Council has in the last one month received numerous complaints from residents mostly affected by the parasite.

The local authority has called on residents of the affected townships to cooperate with Council officers tasked with the responsibility of spraying in the affected areas.

Pest control is the responsibility of local authorities in Zambia as provided for in the Local Government Act Cap 281 of the Laws of Zambia.

  1. I just hope authorities know what they are doing and have prior knowledge of the chemicals being used to eradicate Mosquitoes are safe to humans. Poor as we are in knowledge and ignorant of the goings on in the world today in as far as various VIRUSES are concerned, we need to be extremely careful and alert in all we’re doing.

  3. Mmmm to help for next year.. because they have failed horribly this year and there is no going back at this point.

The amount of mosquitos is abnormal. I’ve never in my 23 years seen this many around.

Let’s hope they do a good job so we don’t have this problem next year too.
