FAZ, Wedson and Power rally behind Ng’onga

Share

FAZ and Power Dynamos have rallied behind striker Alex Ng’onga following a spate of attacks against him and his family.

Ng’onga’s mothers’ home was damaged when unknown people attacked her house in Kitwe on Saturday night blaming her son for Zambia’s 1-0 away loss to Nigeria on the same day.

The incident was the second against Ng’onga who was harassed in Chililabombwe on September 16 by unknown people and he reacted after Power’s 1-0 away loss at Konkola Blades.

Ng’onga has all of a sudden become public enemy number one after he failed to report for Zambia camp for the August 12, 2018 CHAN qualifier against South Africa and later had a modest outing a week later in the 2-0 final leg win at home in Ndola.

“Ng’onga had the best game in Nigeria. From yesterday he has not rested people wanting to get pictures with him, you come back home he’s an enemy of the state,” Zambia coach Wedson Nyirenda said.

“What kind of people are we?”

Power Dynamos coach Danny Kabwe also backed his player.

“Ng’onga is a professional player. Imagine if it were an accountant having a shortfall on an account would they go and beat the accountants’ families? No, it is conducted unbecoming,”Kabwe said.

And Power’s club executive s added that they hope justice will be served in the interest of football.

“Ng’onga has done nothing but work very hard to deliver results for both the club and the national team, which hard work the club is proud of. The player has proved himself dependable and determined to bring glory to club and country alike,” Power CEO Ricky Mamfunda said.

“The Club is hopeful that the law enforcement agency handling the matter will thoroughly investigate this despicable act of intimidation and terror. We implore them to ensure the guilty receive the consequences for such acts as stipulated in our laws and those victims receive justice.”

Meanwhile, FAZ said the perpetrators were enemies of football.

“FAZ wishes to warn football fans that it will not hesitate to ban fans who exhibit unruly behaviour that puts the name of the game into disrepute,” FAZ spokesperson Desmond Katongo said.

“The attacks on Ng’onga’s house are unacceptable. Football is not a sport for hooligans, but a game that unites and entertains all Zambians.

“This action is a dent on the image of the Association, and the game and clearly sends a wrong message to all players and the community at large.”

  1. ….but again, coaches should sometimes learn to listen to us soccer fans..WE ARE STAKEHOLDERS IN AS FAR AS FOOTBALL IS CONCERNED, AND WE MAY NOT HAVE PLAYED FOOTBALL AT WADA’S LEVEL BUT WE ARE CAPABLE OF MAKING MEANINGFUL CONTRIBUTION TO SOCCER.

WE ADVISED WADA TO RECONSIDER THE PLAYERS THAT HE HAD PICKED, AND NGONGA IS ONE OF THOSE PLAYERS WHO WERE MENTIONED. TRUE TO THE FANS FEARS, NGONGA, MTONGA, CHINGANDU, CHAILA ETC SHOULD HAVE NOT BOARDED THE PLANE TO NIGERIA….A BETTER GENERAL NEVER GOES TO WAR LEAVING HIS BEST SOLDERS BEHIND..NEVER ….WADA WADA WADA WADA ….

    • Which players would you have used instead because the TP mazembe continent are no longer international material but we shall forever be indented to them for 2012

  2. Alex is a tricky customer he gets into spaces no one can he just needs a untiring eye to be lethal on goal

  3. For I condemned the action strongly but then I feel the coach should not be prejudiced over certain players! You equally to blame! Being coach is not personal to holder!

  4. For heaven’s sake, it’s just a game. You win some and you lose some. You can’t win them all, can’t lose them all, so please leave the young man alone.

  5. Just the game , don’t take it personal.
Ngonga put up a good performance against Nigeria unless you don’t understand soccer.

  6. The law should be applied to these terrorists who attacked Ng’onga in such a manner that would deter future behaviour of this kind. We should not let Zambia turn into Colombia.

  7. I have never watched this boy but from all the comments, it seems like shouldn’t be in the national team as there is an out cry even stoning his mother’s property. If we had Kelvin Mutale,Gibby Mbasela, Zed Saileti they would scored some goals. We didn’t hear anybody attacking these guy’s families at all.Drop him and save his life before those kaponyas do horrific move to him or his family. And those *****s$ss attacking or harassing his family should chained asap

  8. I am not surprised some Zambians chose to attack the Mother of a young man who was trying to aid his Country to get to the World Cup. What a shame! I am sure they could have killed the young man if he was found at home. This is the same spirit with which some Zambian supporters have taken the ouster of their Team from the world cup race by Nigeria. There is no spirit of sportsmanship in some Zambians. The Coach they were praising after he defeated Algerian has become a victim of massive verbal attack for the defeat. Also, to Zambians, Nigeria does not deserve to go to the world cup because in their estimation, Zambia outplayed Nigeria. What is Victory in football? Victory is simply your ability to score more goals than your opponent. Italy won thewold cup in 1982 or so through one Paulo…

    • Ngonga is not zambias leading striker. Both leading strikers patson daka and brian mwila did feature due to injuries. For ngonga To miss a sitter was very “upsetting” to some though none condones such behavior. “….zambia outplayed nigeria…”? Well nigeria itself cant boast of outplaying zambia. what i know is nigerian team had all professional players prying their trade in renowned teams worldwide while zambia featured a predominantly homegrown team, and nigeria only scored 1 goal and qualified to wc thanks to alexi ngoga!

  9. To me personally, all Zambian’s team players that play against the Nigeria team displayed a patriotic spirit on the pitch. Ngonga or whoever should not be blame. Nigerian’s team is good and too good enough for Zambians to take them ungranted. Nigeria missed a lot of chances than the Zambians. I think Zambia are lucky, they would have conceded more than three goals because the Nigerians are the better side of the game. Congrats Nigeria.

  10. Mr kamanga please tell the coach to forgive fwayo and kalaba and also nathan.the coach was limited with options becouse of his arrongancy.zambia has never been short of talent as far as football is concerned.for instance where are these players:moses phiri former zanaco striker,Evans kangwa, liner mwikisa, saith sakala all these are strikers. To tell you the truth some players are higly gifted than others.and yesterday mr kamanga you told the nation that FAZ will not appeal the augustine mulenga goal, while you may be righty that the refree decision is final why not trying to appeal and let FiFA pass the judgement than you speaking like a fifa spokesperson unlike faz boss

  11. marubish this NGONGA DESERVE THE ACTION NOT THE MOTHER NOW THAT HE IS BACK HE NEEDS TO BE BEATEN , HOW COULD HE MISS SUCH CHANCES IN A CRUCIAL GAME LIKE THAT ASK GHANA PEOPLE GYAN WAS HAMMERED WHY NOT NGONGA

  12. Comment: Zambia are sore losers. So, they expected to beat Nigeria in Uyo? Dream is cheap. Nigeria had been to the World Cup five times. Zambia Nil. Where is the motivation that Zambia will carry the day? Zambia team i saw is for the future, not present.

    • You cant see the motivation because you are nigeriously blind. Who told you that nigeria has a monopoly of appearing at the worldcup just because they have been there before, 5 times. so no other team from africa has the right to qualify to the wc beause nigeria has been there 5 times?

  13. I do not agree with the violent reaction from soccer fans but the player himself should take that as feedback to improve his performance and win back the support of his fans. We all develop from criticism (that if we are ready to embrace it)

  14. We do not support such behavior BUT the fact is this player COST us dearly. He is NOT national team material! The coach is also NOT fit for our national team hence he can not see anything wrong in such substandard players. Nigerians were taking pictures with him because he SAVED them by failing to score. He is their hero! We cant be glorifying AMAKULA , we spend alot money on football. Taxpayers money.

  15. the goal of soccer is a goal if you fail to score doesn’t matter how good your played you failed. I dont condone the attack on this young stars family. Why praise a person who didnt score? Another 4 years we must wait because of this failure.. I say it again he is not for national team. We are not there for entertainment…

  16. What do you expect when PF arranges for thugs to travel to Nigeria on the tax payers expense just to go and hang a banner promoting Lungu? PF has brought so much pain and misery to this country. We are seeing Zambians doing things we never thought they would do…killings by guns, ritual murders, baying for boold of those people they dont agree with..soccer players must now play for their lives. LUNGU MUST GO!! WHEN IS ENOUGH IS ENOUGH YOU ZAMBIANS ?

  17. I think Alex Ng’onga is not a good striker! A striker that does not put the ball into the net is not a striker. Zambia has so many good strikers in the local league. Why does Wedson Nyirenda sticky to ALex N’onga who always sky rockets his shots or fires away from the goal area? We have so many replacements for N’onga locally ,players that are always working hard to earn a place in the national team and players that can contribute goals to the national team but Wedson Nyirenda does not see them as he always opt for Ngonga. Patson Daka is very very good and Brian Mwila is brilliant but Ngonga can play but He cant score. So ba Coach either find someone that can score in the place of Ngonga or Play him as a winger so he can give the ball to people that can score. THE NATIONAL TEAM IS NOT…

  18. No No and big NO to senseless attacks on innocent mother of a football player who tried his very best on that sad day. What pains is that Nigeria were beatable but after having played a successful phychological war which had put fear in the Nigerians, we failed to complete the mission. Even as they prepare for Russia Nigerians wish they could have a friendly with Chipolopolo.

  19. It is a shame that Ng”onga “s family was attacked. Thr boy put in his best in the Nigeria match despite not scoring. The team now has very +ve energy similar to 2012 africa cup winning team. Let us encourage and build Alex as he has shown great improvement compared to the Algeria game. The coach and his teachnical bench to focus on tactical discipline and maintaining cconcentration levels in last 20 mins of 2nd half as this is when we temd to concede goals. Remember, we lost to Mozambique at home a few months ago. Who were the players in that team? Most of them did not tick and the Mambas out played us. It sad we lost, a draw would have been good. Let work hard and perfect the art. Wada, i support you
