The British Council has celebrated the rivers of the world project which has been running in Zambia for two years at Henry Tayali visual arts center in the show grounds Lusaka.
The country director David Pardoe says the project is celebrating great rivers of the world by connecting school children in countries with great rivers with schools in in the UK in London situated near the river Thames.
He said Zambia was chosen along with Vietnam to be a part of a project because of the rivers that are found in it.
“As we know Zambezi and Kafue River are great river of the world, they give life and resources they are tremendously important,” Mr. Pardoe said.
Mr. Pardoe said the council engaged famous artist from Zambia and UK to mentor and coach the children in producing their own art work.
He said children from Zambian schools made the painting representing the river Thames while the school children in London did paintings which represent river Kafue and Zambezi.
He explained that the children have learnt about another culture, Zambian children learnt the culture from UK while those in the UK have learnt the culture from Zambia through the art of rivers.
Meanwhile the subject coordinator for British council Hihano kapanda said the initiative is an awakening to the children to realize that what they have in nature is of right value to them.
She added that the one young ones will get to polish up the art skills as they learn from each other and interact and this will even help them for future prepares as there is high rate of unemployment in the worldwide.
