Ng’onga denies Zesco win

Share

Under-fire striker Alex Ng’onga earned a precious away draw for his side at Zesco United on Tuesday to see Power Dynamos leave Ndola with a 1-1 result.

Ngonga’s 88th minute equaliser saw Power recover from last Saturday’s 1-0 derby home defeat to Nkana.

The goal was also Ngonga’s first in two months since scoring a brace in Power’s 3-1 home win over Red Arrows on August 26 in Kitwe.

Meanwhile, Zesco looked like they were cruising with the 3 points after Lazarus Kambole had put them ahead in the 54th minute.

But Zesco were fortunate to even get away with a point after 46th minute substitute Martin Phiri hit the post in the 79th minute.

The draw ended Zesco’s three match winning run and also denied them a chance of going top of the table.

Zesco must now settle for second place for at least 24 hours.

They have relegated Green Buffaloes to 3rd place on 56 points, one behind Zanaco with six games left to play.

Buffaloes host Lusaka Dynamos on Wednesday while Zanaco await relegation-bound Real Nakonde on the same date in Lusaka.

Meanwhile, Lumwana Radiants suffered their second successive league defeat when Napsa Stars beat them 1-0 in Lumwana thanks to a goal from their ex-striker Simon Nkhata in the 15th minute.

The defeat came a week after Lumwana lost 2-0 at the same venue to Zanaco.

Napsa rise from 9th to 7th on 50 points, bumping Luwmana from that position to 8th on 48 points.

The win sees Napsa head into the weekend on a high ahead of Saturday 2017 Barclays Cup final date against Zanaco at National Heroes Stadium.
