Mr. Wina was speaking to ZNBC News in an interview during the independence celebration at state house.

Mr. Chanda said that shunning such national events is an insult to the gallant Men and Women who fought for the country’s liberation.

  1. Our independence is worth celebrating unfortunately the way we have run this free country makes avoid the celebration.
    1)increase in poverty
2)increase in disease, AIDS, Malaria, TB
    3)increase in corruption
4)major businesses given back to the foreigners
5)Increase in political violence where we are found killing each other
    6)Increase in Poaching
7)Too much religion instead of too much of christ in us.
    8)Laziness awe mwanding.
List goes on. For me awe mwaninding. I can not join President lungu in cutting the cake

    • You can dislike my comment however you like but the truth is our poverty is embarrassing. I remember how we lived without mealie meal for days and no sugar or cooking oil or relish because our parents did not get paid on time and even if they got paid, the money was not enough to reach next pay month. That level of poverty I have never experienced in Australia where even if I get less paid, food is very affordable. In one hour’s work I can buy 2 bread, 2kg sugar, meat (1Kg), 500g butter, 2kg rice etc and my job is cleaning. Now tell me in Zambia can a cleaner buy these in hour pay. Only PSs, MPs and Mr Lungu are enjoying the sweat of this independent. We are from independence to Dependent. Just watch MuviTV on youtube see how people are always waiting for Govt help. We need good men and…

    • We need good men and women to run the affairs of Zambia as servants and not rulers. As at now since independence we’ve had rulers. The sad thing we have moved from less educated to educated but the results are similar. I would like to see leaders who want to serve and not ruling. If only we left ruling to be done by the constitution (law of Zambia), Zambia today would be a beacon of progress the whole africa. Law is the strength of every developed country today. In australia if you speed, you pay or risk losing licence. Even a senior minister lost his job for drink driving. But pa Zambia, an MP can speed and never fined. It is who you know when it comes to law in Zed. Zambia shall shine one day. God bless Zambia.

    • With due respect, I would urge Sikota Wina. He is already a traitor in as far as the Barotseland issue is concerned. How free is Barotseland. It is today the
only Province in Zambia that has political prisoners apart from the UPND because of treachery on Barotseland! Sikota Wina, are you happy with what is happening today in Zambia? Just enjoy the remnants of what your sister-in- law, Inonge Wina keeps giving you! We may have forgiven but we have not forgotten!

    • With due respect, I would urge Sikota Wina to shut up if he has nothing to contribute. He is already a traitor in as far as the Barotseland issue is concerned. How free is Barotseland. It is today the
only Province in Zambia that has political prisoners apart from the UPND because of his treachery and his brother is on Barotseland! Sikota Wina, are you happy with what is happening today in Zambia? Just enjoy the remnants of what your sister-in- law, Inonge Wina keeps giving you! We may have forgiven but we have not forgotten!

    • Everybody knows it is related to inonge wina through marriage, we all know that all its life it has survived through government food stumps.

    • Juliet when you concentrate on wrong things you will never cerebrate independence because those things will be with us almost for our life time. theirs no opposition which can give us hope for now.

    • @governer
It is not about opposition or ruling. I equally don’t know if UPND can do better because they are not tested besides they have crooked people amongst them too. It may not be HH but those ranks are full of business men who know how to make personal money. Besides that William Banda was a criminal during RB. So I reserve my judgement for now. But current govt is a miss. I can believe they store broad day light by buying fire trucks at $1M rach

    • @Juliet Perth

I am in complete agreement with you. Celebrating so-called Zambian independence is like expressing happiness when someone dies. If you are a wizard, witch, it might be normal to celebrate death. Zambia has been dying a slow death since whites handed over power to blacks in 1964. The poverty stricken population stats keeps galloping at horse speed skywards. The capital city where the president lives and works is a filthy slum where a pig who never think of making home. Cholera in October! What’s there to be happy about?

  2. Simple definition.
Independence is not influenced or controlled by others in matters of opinion, conduct, etc.; thinking or acting for oneself: 2. not subject to another’s authority or jurisdiction; autonomous; 3. Not depending on others for a livelihood or subsistence.

Now sikota does this apply to Zambia.

  3. yes u5 is the subject here

i have no problems with Tongas. they are great people. in my family we have 3 Tonga ladies. good people

problem is u5. tribalism is ingrained in his blood system.

using money he stole from privatisation he has managed to sway tonga masses telling them he will take them to the promissed land.

ati . I AM MOZE in the bible. Moze wanomba.

if you believe gbm must replace u5 press RED

If my analysis is correct respond to my post

    • I dislike people like @3 Laughing matter who have no qualms about being openly tribalist against one tribe in Zambia. Such people should be denounced in the strongest terms possible. In PF we have all tribes represented. How do you think our colleagues feel when you continuously ridicule them because of their tribe?

    • When HH was incarcerated on trumped up charges, what did you do? You held parties till dawn and you expect him to praise you. Well a visit to Chainama would do you good.

  4. Juliet Perth,
You are obviously a house negro as your name indicates. The things in your list will always be with us until christ comes again. To think that a free mason would free Zambia from these things is devil worshiping. They have failed to free America (USA) from these things.

    • @ shushushu listen to your self. If Zambia that claims to be religious should be less developed than Australia which is a more disbeliever then something is wrong. Christ does not want us to suffer maybe your own made christ (religious one). As for Christ he would love to see us happy children who love each other. Now Imwe ba shushu you seem like a bad father just from the tone of your writing. Take care of your family papa and work hard. As for me I am enjoying and I am not a house negro. By the way here there are no house servants but in Zambia you will find house servants enslaved by fellow zambians and abasungu.

    • Juliet Perth I love you.. you are the future of our Country.

Shushu just shut up. This Masonic argument is baseless and carries very little weight, because look at this way, Masonic countries have little poverty, more employment, less people perishing in hospitals, more people housed, cleaner towns etc etc.. now look at our so called independent Christian Nation, it’s the opposite and in fact our Christian country depends on Masonic countries such as UK, Norway, Denmark, America, Germany to fund our budget and take care of critical areas ie health, education, poverty reduction, infrastructure development.. as it stands we are in full swing begging the IMF a private British -American bank ( masons ).. my whole point is that let’s fix our country without bringing up irrelevancies.

    • @ shu shu shu IF you judge HH for being a Free mason and you are a christian, then I think I would choose HH over you as your hate or tribal talk comes through very strongly. We do not want people like you dividing a country that has 72 or 73 tribes. What exactly is wrong with being Tonga? I feel they are very nice hard working people and if you have differed with them then it is because they can smell the tribalismn coming out of you. As for Independence; what exactly is there to celebrate as we are now being colonised by our very own people.

    • Better to remain poor than to be governed by Free masons. But who is this free mason and how do you know he is a mason if you are not one of them and how sure are you if those in government are not masons. Juliet Perth is write, our independence is not wealthy celebrating, independent when we depend on other countries to run our own is that what you independence? Even the little we are generating from taxes wasted by those in government. When will a tax payer benefit in this country sure? The government does not speak for people in private company employment but it is busy increasing taxes is this not masonic? Baye fyoko. We need new blood, new faces new polititians not ishi imbata shabantu.

  5. Other people have got a right to celebrate cause they can;
    * make 19 million interest free in 12 months while the rest pay taxes.
    *auction mukula while banning others.
    *Buy fire tenders at $1million
*Borrow to give contracts to avic and friends
*Sell ZNBC,RTSA and Kazungula border post.

    • Bo Sikota, would you do what these chaps are doing in KK’s days? You buy trucks, house etc with no tracy of your income, not even a ngwee paid to ZRA. These are straight cases of money laundering, you are being used to silence the opposition. Come on its not like you.

  6. You break somebody’s house violently in the night, incarcerate him for 4 months and just release him just like that and that somebody must say this is a national day let me go and feast with them at independence. Niofuntha?

    • nothing wrong. even before that u5 never participated indendence events even durrin LPM days.

u5 deserves teargas in the bedroom everyday. thats when he will grow up and learn patriotism as next commander in chief in 2041

      his ego is overboad.

if you belive gbm must take over press RED

if you want me to quit posting preess GREEN

  7. Sikota is not being realistic. He is just a direct beneficiary of the system. That is why he celebrates. If he had been beaten and harassed in current times just like the way the colonialists used to do, do you think he could join them.

  8. Sata never set his foot on state house grounds throughout his 10-year stay in the opposition. So why is the PF condemning the opposition for staying away from state functions when their founding President is the one who set a bad precedent? It’s better to keep quiet on such matters

  9. @shu shu shu, your statement lacks maturity.
Our country is in a mess, big mess. All businesses are controlled by Indians, Chinese, Lebanese and Somalians. Where are the Zambians.

Tribalism is at it’s worst with bbas and nyanjas ganging up to sideline the other tribes.

Out nation is only apolitically owned by ourselves, and until we wake up and take control of out economy, we then not yet independent.

Zambia has among highest alcoholism on earth, coupled with child prostitution.

Zambia has among highest cost of living amid high youth and adult unemployment.

If u have travelled the world like me, I am sure you will crush at what is happening in that a country.

Zimbabwe is note independent than us, trust me

    • True about how docile us Zambians have been in adding value to our economy. Infact, we have been this docile from way back and not in this regime. I am neither PF nor UPND and my question is; did all these issues pointed above suddenly spring up during PFs reign? Some would say they have trippled; but my question still stands. If your answer is a yes, then you are not close to telling any truth. If your answer is that these issues have trippled, then your critisism shouldnt be that abressive. Lets not be biased in our analysis because of the hate of the current government – lets be sober and fully true. For sure, our beloved country needs to be panel beaten but the kind of alarm you are putting across is quite unfair.

  10. you fulls you have nothin to do . look at the time start workin. you say economy is bad but you spend whole day insulting lungu instead of workin.

you think u5 will be givin you handouts. thats what he has promisses peharps. free egg every morning.

if you think gbm is better than u5 press RED

  11. All the issues raised above are a lame excuse for compromising our values and principles of unity and patriotism.
We shall always celebrate independence regardless of which party is in charge.
Freedom fighters like Mr Wina know better. They have seen it all. It’s an honor to still have him among us.
To label Mr Wina a sellout is a sign of immaturity and short sightedness.

    • All individuals shunning Independence Day celebrations under the pretext of “it’s meaningless due to high poverty levels, corruption, and poor governance”, are low class individuals who can’t separate Independence from politicking. Do they know that even the richest countries on earth suffer from the same complaints? But do the opposition political parties shun Independence Day celebrations. Shunning Independence Day celebrations gives credence to what that apartheid lady Helen Zille said – makes sense why somebody rushed there after release.

  12. Those who fought for our independence should be respected.Their names are forever etched on Zambia’s history.
All we hear from the party from the south are desperate cries of immaturity that spring from their deeply ingrained ingratitude.
The Zambians working together are achieving more than those championing disunity and unpatriotism.
Politicians don’t owe anyone of us a better life.
We need to unite as common Zambians to leverage the economy in our favor.
Stop being xenophobic. It’s us to blame. Not the politicians, not the Chinese or Lebanese. It’s us on this blog who can’t fight for anything.

  13. Wina is an embarrement coz his own people are incarncerated and doesnt talk about it,kulya kwa muwononga mudala, thats why he even wanted to marry his own grand daughter.shame

  14. laughing matter , may GOD forgive you. You have a character that is not christlike. Kindly imitate JESUS. Sometimes , you don’t need to defend ECL, ECL has government machinery to protect him.
To be emotional and use unpalatable language because you adore ECL, it is wrong and unbiblical. JESUS never insulted. Whom will obey for you to insult, ECL or JESUS? I know the President has not sent you to insult his critics. Never must you sin because you love the President. Let those who insult do so and never join them.
I dread the culture prevailing among the young generation. Look at the conduct of cadres. Can any cadre prepare a bankable business plan for economic activity of the country.

  15. Independence is not about the ruling party at a particular time or about individualism, its about appreciating what our gallant Men and Women did during that time of colonialism, the fight that they did to get the white imperialist out Mother Zambia. Coming to think of it, I have never seen any ruling party that that have not observed this important day even after shunning it when they were in opposition, so why not just join the celebrations now so that you can justify when you come into power? Shame on all who never celebrated with most Zambians, ba GBM WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS……COME ON BE REALISTIC FOR ONCE.

  16. Zambians have the right to celebrate or not the day of independence. This depends with what you think individually. The beauty of life is that we must respect each other ‘s view.
If I go to church on Wednesday not on Sunday , no one must condemn me. He who is right must humbly plead with me to do what he think is right, otherwise he may be wrong on the day of worship which Saturday.
Equally just as Jehovah Witness do not sing the national anthem or attend independence, we must respect their position. In life you must learn to accept different opinions

  17. HE ECL and his ministers and cadres continually espouse that they are pro poor a christian nation and there is no tribalism in their party.
I challenge HE ECL and his party to propose and adopt the following as proof that all pipo are equal in Zambia.
Instead of One Zambia One Nation…
Lets replace it with ONE ZAMBIA ONE NATION ONE PEOPLE
Can you accept my challenge. Isnt that what our freedom fighters fought for.

  18. Juliet, you are always a voice of reason am sure you are a true christian will a legal background. Keep promoting Zambia it will change for the better if TRUE Zambians are committed to progressing the Nation not themselves and their inner circle

  19. The situation we are in can be likened to entrusting your gun in the hands of the thief that you just overpowered. We keep going back to the people that we got the independence from and I wonder if they can offer us a solution that can cement the independence. Our opposition want the chaps we did away with to run the mines. The politicians want the baZungu to mediate the indaba between their parties and the one in Government. What other outcome would you and me expect apart from that which would cause more confusion than we are into now? If these advisers are worth their salt let them help stop the wars in Congo and the many other states experiencing civil wars rather than cause to happen another war in Zambia.

  20. These must be the most down beat and low moral indipendence day celebrations in our recent history, especially seeing we have just spent $17 billion on development, all because we have a violent corrupt theif as president who condons political violence and presecutions of anyone with divergent views….

  21. Juliet Perth!

Don’t show ignorance in public. I live in UK and there are customized tractors costing over 1 million pounds. So to say they stole is a word spoken with limited knowledge.

The best urgement would be questioning buying 42 fire engines at such a cost and then give them to some towns which are less productive. You can not give Lusaka and Chinsali or Monse or Petauke the same side of the fire engines. The fire engines of that size and cost could have been for cities and provincial towns only and buy cheaper ones for smaller towns. Those fire engines will need maintenance, can small towns manage.

The other point is you Juliet should know that all economies are struggling including developed countries except that its easy to observe them easily in Africa than Europe…

    • It’s you that is ignorant…..copy and paist this link to see how much a truck of higher spec costs…

      google.co.uk/amp/s/www.crawleyhappytimes.co.uk/new-state-of-the-art-fire-engine-for-crawley/amp/

    • Khumalo please DONT attempt to show us your ” cleverness” coz clever is one thing you are surely NOT!
These “Wheelbarrows” your beloved Corrupt & inept P.F brought to Zambia reek of corruption, & you know that, unless you are a beneficiary, or you have learning difficulties.
Its not only Fire tenders that are the issues. The road tenders Stink, garbage is not collected, no medications in our polluted dirty hospitals, all the while your drinking dancing bear hero Jonathan Chagwa agwesa Zambia through aimless tourism, & plunder of state coffers.
In Zambia, you DON’T have , just FLAG WAVING INDEPENDENCE

    • cont;
Should read “IN ZAMBIA YOU ARE NOT INDEPENDENT”, you just have what is known as “Flag waving Independence” & if you are intelligent as you claim to be, you will understand what I mean by the term “Flag Waving Independence”

  22. I am a neutral lawyer who wants to assist. Please note that attendance to independence celebrations is not compulsory but very voluntary, thereby no body should be blamed, ridiculed or brought into ridicule for not attending the celebrations – It is not necessary. With my little advice above, I would rather we concentrate on developmental issues

  23. Then condemn the PF of the past, as they themselves as a party boycotted independence before.

You can’t turn a blind eye only when it suites you.

    We see you.

  24. I think independence is a day when we try to forget our differences and celebrate our existence as Zambia. It is in honour of the gallant men and women who sacrificed there all to ensure we are here today blogging freely. Yes we may be going through rough times but am sure we can set aside this day to just remember those heroes. Politicizing such days is really not the way to go. We only have one Zambia and without 24th October there is no Zambia.

  25. You have hit the on the head. For sure who do these guys in government cheating? School children are forced to go and attend the Independence celebrations every year but what we see, is after they praise their president and leaders, they are turned back home thirsty and hungry and you ask them to attend next years. SHAME SHAME TO YOU RASCALS AND GREEDY LEADERS OF THE DAY.

  26. You have hit the nail on the head.

  27. Some opposition political parties in Zambia have denied that Zambia got independence on 24 October, 1964 and consequently shunned the the celebrations. It is this childish and confused thinking that highlights the nature of the calibre of leadership in such political parties. As long as we such leaders directing the affairs of such political parties we will never cease to have problems caused by immature greedy little politicians who think that Zambia cannot develop unless they get to state house. Shame.

  28. Wins is speaking a lot of sense. Some of you have not got the brains to graspwhat the old man is saying. How can snu sane person ask what we are celebrating. Didn’t you go to school and learn that we were colonised? People fought for us to be free and we want to forget that? That is the first step back to enslavement. Appreciate what you have now before asking for more

  29. Wina is speaking a lot of sense. Some of you have not got the brains to grasp what the old man is saying. How can any sane person ask what we are celebrating? Didn’t you go to school and learn that we were colonised? People fought for us to be free and we want to forget that? That is the first step back to enslavement. Appreciate what you have now before asking for more

  30. Bo Sikota, would you do what these chaps are doing in KK’s days? You buy trucks, house etc with no loan, no tracy of your income, not even a ngwee paid to ZRA. These are straight cases of money laundering, you are being used to silence the opposition. Come on its not like you.
