Zesco target Warriors scalp to go top

Share

Zesco United eye top spot on Wednesday when they host Kabwe Warriors at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Victory for Zesco will see them go two points clear at the top of the table with six games remaining before the 2017 FAZ Super Division title is decided.

Zesco are currently second on 59 points, one behind Zanaco from 31 and 32 games played respectively.

The 2016 runners-up face Warriors hoping to extend their unbeaten run to five games after picking up three wins and a draw coming into Wednesday’s rescheduled Week 30 match.

Zesco will be banking on striker Jesse Were to add to his tally of 15 goals and close- in on Lusaka Dynamos Chris Mugalu who leads on 17 goals.

A win on Wednesday is critical for Zesco with a tricky way date against Nkwazi coming up this weekend in Lusaka.

Meanwhile, 15th placed Warriors, who held Zesco 0-0 in the first leg, have not won in Ndola since 2005.

Warriors have lost all their last four away meetings since drawing 1-1 in November 2010.

But Warriors head to Ndola on the back of a four-match unbeaten run in which they have won three and drawn one match.

The highlight of that recent form saw Warriors beat 3rd placed Green Buffaloes 1-0 at home in Kabwe and hold 4th positioned Nkana 0-0 at the same venue.
