President Edgar Lungu has met the International Monetary Fund (IMF)assuring that the Zambian Government remains committed to spearheading the nation’s development based on an economic stabilisation and growth programme.

“Although we remain committed to continue on the path of economic reform and stabilisation, there is need to bring the programme negotiations to a conclusion. We are committed to move forward with the programme. We are taking painful decisions now, to ensure we make progress in the economy and secure the livelihoods of our people,” the President said.

The President said this when IMF Director for the Africa Region, Dr. Abebe Selassie paid a courtesy call on him at State House today.

“Government is unanimous on the need to ensure debt sustainability and fiscal discipline while maintaining a healthy balance between social spending and growth programmes.”

The President said Government has taken unprecedented measures such as removal of consumption subsidies and the progression of electricity tariffs to cost reflective levels.

The President was accompanied to the meeting by Minister of Finance Felix Mutati, Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba, Special Assistant to the President for Economic and Development Affairs Hibeene Mwiinga, Bank of Zambia Governor Dr. Denny Kalyalya and Bank of Zambia Deputy Governor Dr. Bwalya Ngandu.

And the IMF Director Mr. Selassie was accompanied to State House by newly appointed IMF Mission Chief for Zambia Dr. Boileau Loko, IMF Executive Director for Zambia Dr. Maxwell Mukwezalamba, and IMF Resident Representative Dr. Alfredo Baldini.

    • Jonathan is corrupt, and is not ashamed of it.

How did our lovely country end up with such a douche bag?

      Lord have mercy!!

    • If you think the Chinese are your friends you are sleeping…copper is their friend right now…as soon as it runs out…you will see what happens. Watch this space.

  1. Lord Jesus we thank you for your interventions. No talks of the IMF bailout shall succeed. It’s not in the best interest of our sovereign land. Now we ask for the total collapse of the bailout talks in Jesus named.

  2. Did we not hear that imf can go to hell? U see z kwacha nose diving and u realise no imf no investor confidence and flight of capital and u swallow ur vomit? Good!

  3. unfortunately we are faring poorly on the fight against corruption. the IMF has probably seen ineptitude on our part.
these are trying times for PF government

    • People may be I am in dreamland. Is this the same Kudos tallking this about PF. I thought this skull was hell bent on praising whatever PF did even when chakolwa said that IMF can go to hell. What has come over this skull.

    • Simple.
Coming to reality !!! And BTW, its good that someone comes to the realization, it shows he took some time to reflect. Such change should be encouraged.
However, I advise you not to mention the name HH or GBM, when it comes to topics concerning those two GBM/HH, it will be the same old Mr.Kudos

  4. Lungu is used of bribing people ,here he thinks he can bribe the IMF team.

Bytheway police have said the raid at UPND offices was to find any one in possession of matches or a lighter so as to point blam to the fires in markets , unfortunately for Pf the people who smoke cigarets at UPND were not in office that day……

  5. OMG!! Someone thinks chinese will be any better than IMF ? This is what we call sticking plasters on a wound without treating the cause of the infection. Why drift away to chinese borrowing when you have not repaid what you owe the previously lenders ? At least fix your reckless expenditure first !! Poor focus , not enough future orientation or none at all !!

  6. Too many holes in this statement, you can tell it was well thought out to please the IMF ears, Not to appeal to their professional or education so they can make a sound decision.

If PF government doesn’t want to be Candid to the IMF what about Zambian citizen.

  7. Our president, Mr. Jonathan Edgar Changwa Lungu, is a man with a long stomach and a short throat. He has room for more, swallow everything and never get choked.

  8. Dr. Loko and Dr. Selassie mwwting……….WHAT A NAME ..Dr Selassie Mwwting with such names of people representing IMF how can we be bailed out???
