New Apostolic church praised for goat programme

Western Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu has thanked the New Apostolic Church Organisation (NACRO) for supporting government in its quest to revamp the livestock sector in the country.

Mr. Mubukwanu said government, under the PF regime, has resolved to improve the livestock sector so that it can greatly contribute to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP)

The Provincial Minister said this today in a speech read for him by Mongu District Commissioner, Susiku Kamona when NACRO handed over 30 goats to individual farmers in Kaande and Namushakende areas, courtesy of.

Mr. Mubukwanu has since advised the beneficiaries of the goats not to slaughter the animals in this festive season but to allow them to multiply so that they share them with the rest of the farming community members in the targeted areas.

He said in order for the country to meet the Saudi Arabia demand of one million goats per year, there was need for livestock farmers to seriously take farming as a business.

And speaking at the same occasion, NACRO Chief Executive Officer Tebuho Yubai disclosed that his organisation had set aside over K1.5 million towards the livestock enhancement project dubbed ‘climate proofed smallholder agriculture promotion project.

Mr. Yubai said out of the 1,500 targeted beneficiaries from the two-year project in the country, 1,000 are women.

And a livestock farmer at Kaande, Mwiyi Nyambe, thanked the organisation for giving him and other farmers goats which he said will help in alleviating poverty in the communities.

Another farmer at Namushakande, Yembe Yembe also extolled NACRO for considering the plight of the farmers in the area.
