Female inmates at Mukobeko receive food stuffs and clothing from ZLDC

The Zambia Law Development Commission (ZLDC) has donated food stuffs and clothing worth K10,000 to the Zambia Correctional Service’s Mukobeko Security Maximum female section.

The donated items include drinks, biscuits, sanitary towels and Chitenge materials to the 101 inmates at the facility.

Other donation items include toys for children whose mothers are incarceration.

Commission Director Hope Chanda who presented the ‘Christmas hampers’ to the Officer in-Charge Mable Mwanza said inmates also need love and care.

Ms. Chanda said the donation is a gesture meant to make inmates feel loved and cared for and to entertain the innocent children who are confined in the facility due to the crimes committed by their mothers.

And in receiving the donation, Mukobeko Maximum Correctional Service Officer In-Charge of the female section Mable Mwanza bemoaned the high number of prisoners at the facility.

Ms. Mwanza said the infrastructure is not adequate to carter for the high number of inmates thereby posing a danger to transmit diseases such as Tuberculosis, (TB).

She however, commended ZLDC for the gesture in showing care, love and to the prisoners.

The female section caters for prisoners who have been sentenced from 10 years to life imprisonment.

  1. Release them all during this Christmas season. Ask them to come back again next year when you improve on infrastructure relating to toilets, sleeping quarters, wash/laundry rooms, children playing grounds etc., etc.

  2. All of are potential prisoners therefore the need to keep the facilities as habitable as possible. You never when your time will come. ..Umulandu mume.
