bout 300 marketeers in Kalulushi district have become the latest beneficiaries of the Presidential Empowerment Fund Initiative.

Presidential Empowerment Initiative National Coordinator, Clement Tembo said K400, 000 has been given out to marketeers at Luato and Chambishi markets yesterday.

Mr. Tembo told ZANIS in an interview that marketeers are important for the growth of economy hence the efforts by President Edgar Lungu to financially support their businesses.

He stated that President Lungu wants to ensure that marketeers improve their livelihoods through expansion of their businesses.

He explained that beneficiaries of the empowerment fund are expected to start paying back in small instalments on a weekly basis to enable other marketeers to benefit.

Mr. Tembo said they are targeting to empower about 1,000 marketeers on the Copperbelt Province and have since started with an initial of 300 marketeers in Kalulushi.

And Kalulushi Mayor, Rashida Mulenga urged the marketeers who have not yet benefited to register with the district office for them to access the funds.

Ms. Mulenga noted that the funds are open to all marketeers despite their political affiliations.

She added that there will be transparency and accountability in disbursing of the funds hence urged all the beneficiaries to pay back on time as it is a revolving fund.

Meanwhile, Ms. Mulenga appealed to President Lungu to help the council in constructing shelters at the two markets.
