Government is not pleased with the slow pace of construction works at some markets in Lusaka.

Local Government and Housing Minister Vincent Mwale, who visited the four construction sites today, told the contractors to speed up the works.

Mr. Mwale said the contractors should quickly complete the projects so displaced street vendors can be allocated trading spaces as soon as possible.

The four markets which the Minister visited are Lusaka BH, Tokyo, Agro fuel and Simon Mwewa markets.

The minister disclosed that BH market will accommodate about 1,000 traders.

And Mr. Mwale has reiterated government’s stance that street vendor will not conduct their businesses in the streets again.

He has meanwhile promised the vendors that government will not let them down because it realizes that trading is their only source of income.

The minister further assured the traders that government will keep a close eye on the construction works to ensure that projects are complete as soon as possible.

Mr. Mwale also said government will next week issue a statutory instrument that will guide on how to keep the streets and markets clean and how people handling food are supposed to behave.

Meanwhile, site engineer for Lusaka BH market Webby Mwabu explained that the contractor delayed to complete the project because of problems in procuring materials that were required.

And the contractors building other markets said they also faced some delays in receiving building materials for them to go ahead with the projects.

They have however assured government that they will double their efforts in order to finish the projects in time.

Meanwhile, one of the marketeers spoken to expressed gratitude with the works that government is doing to relocate street vendors to designated trading places.

  1. These tins are like the lazy boss Edgar…just four weeks ago he stated they didnt have funds…they have no integrity!!

    • This Mwale Kid is so smart … smarter than Jay Jay here!!! We need to groom these kind for future presidency while Jay Jay is fit to be president of mouth runners here on LT.

That’s the difference between the two … Mwale is actively doing something about the plight of the smart people of the Zambian Enterprise while Jay Jay is busy doing everything necessary to under their success.

He has a PhD (Pull Him Down) in Serious Denigrations … A specialty for small minded people. That’s what his thesis was all about.

Mwale keep doing the right things, proud of you. The only thing I have against you is that MMD thing, I am still UNIP so I guess you understand.

      Heaven help us all …

  2. This ka mwale should have been fired for the filth that is Lusaka…..people have died , but because he defended 42/42 for lungu and his gang , he is a usful idi.ot

  3. Here in lies the problem…..the minister this ka mwale, has he not got managers who are responsible for these delays ??? This is indicative right from the top with lungu, no one is accountable for anything , even ka mwale as minister should have sacked those in charge of overseeing the buildings for the delays …..lack of building materials is no excuse…

    • Just sacking people around is not the solution. Find out what the problem is offer support & progress. If failure continues then you actually

  4. There is a trade-off between being speedy, rushing the work and the quality of the product being constructed. I hope you are not asking them to do shoddy work at the expense of building a safe and fit for purpose building. you rush them, they do a shoddy job that will collapse on those same marketeers. This is the result of doing things out of convenience and being reactive… you were sleeping on the job all along until a catastrophe had to happen. And now because your job is on the line (it’s just a matter of time before those street vendors breeze on your neck). Please balance it, efficiency yes but not at the expense of shoddy works.

  5. Tell the contractors to have shift plan make three shift like mines do than you will see the so called speed your are looking for

  6. I remember Mwale being a loud mouth before he was minister and advocating certain people to go to jail because he felt they had stolen money. Now he has been given the platform and look at him. Empty tin cans make the most noise. A person who prefers opening bars than a church. In bars, if someone has cholera, they visit the washroom frequently and may not always have opportunities to wash their hands properly. Constantly touching the handle to flush, blocked toilets and water splashing people when using the bathroom are risks. People sharing beer bottles, using their hands to wipe the bottle is passing cholera. Now, compare going to church or a bar! This guy has no brains! Get rid of him!

  8. Blame cholera on this kamucolored.
Made enough noise to get a ministerial appointment but now wants to run away from responsibility over cholera. Why did it have to take ECL to act.? Sack the bugger!!
