Vodafone Zambia has appointed Amon Jere as its new Chief Sales and Distribution Officer with effect from February 1, as part of the 4G operator’s drive to expand and fortify its distribution footprint and grow market share.

Mr Jere, whose previous role was as Chief Sales & Distribution Officer at MTN Zambia Limited, has over 15 years of international leadership in commercial, sales and distribution within the telecommunications industry across Southern, Eastern and Western Africa regions.

He has experience in managing commercial teams in both fixed and mobile telecoms. He worked for Celtel Zambia as Sales and Distribution Director and thereafter worked as Sales and Distribution Director for Celtel Kenya. He went on to join Vodafone Ghana as Sales Director. Mr Jere then joined ZAMTEL as Chief Commercial Officer where he turned around the company within 8 months and grew the customer base by more than 200%.

Mr Jere also worked for Glo Ghana as Commercial Director before joining MTN Zambia as Chief Sales and Distribution Officer where he oversaw the growth of the organisation’s market share from 39% to 53%.

“I am excited to be heading up the sales and distribution function at Vodafone Zambia and I look forward to working with management and staff at all levels to continue to grow the business and add real value to the life of the digital consumer and cement the growing position of Vodafone as Zambia’s leading innovative 4G leader by delivering customer oriented digital solutions and bespoke products, creating employment, supporting young people through our graduate development programme and student ambassador programme,” said Mr Jere.

And Lars Stork, CEO of Vodafone Zambia said: “I have no doubt that our new Chief Sales and Distribution Officer will bring the capability and expertise to continue to build Vodafone Zambia as a flagship business in Zambia and maintain its position as an innovative next-generation operator.”

  1. Taking over from who? Seems this guys has worked for all telecoms in Zambia. Celtel, Airtel, Zamtel, MTN now vodafone. Is this normal behavour or shows one instability?

    • Good observation Max. A HR will not employ someone who move so much between competitors. It is clear that very soon he also leave Vodafone

    • congrats AMON,keep doing what you know best, you have come far,LT Amon worked for LP GREENS(zamtel)before sata repossesed it and the same company moved him to ghana.he has worked for three mobile companies.

    • Businesses thrive to make profits through competitive sales just like big league teams like Barca, Real M, Mancity, Manutd etc who want to win trophies and therefore look for top notch players they can lay their hands on. Top notch salesmen are hard to find and when you pounce on one you don’t let go at all cost. So if Mr. Jere has been moving around like that then he may not be pulling the right strings for him to be let off so easily. Or do those companies fail to meet his demands?

  2. Good observation Max. A good HR will not employ someone who move so much between competitors. It is clear that very soon he will also leave Vodafone Zambia. In his “over 15 years experience” he has worked for 6 companies i.e. approx 2 and half year per company which is less than a normal contract term of 3yrs.

    • what has HR got to do with anything ??Jealous will kill you ohhh. You have been working for the same company for years without any impact on the your self and the company…a good HR will not look at you as well. On the other hand this simply shows how marketable AJ is.

  3. Clearest sign that Vodafone will be getting that voice license from ZICTA because you don’t move from MTN distributing and sales across mobile money, data and voice to sell those tuma malfunctioning MiFi.

  4. AJ action oriented man!! Vodaphone will surely experience a turn around in the sales figures. To the sales team just know that holiday is over.

  5. Mr Jere then joined ZAMTEL as Chief Commercial Officer where he turned around the company within 8 months and grew the customer base by more than 200%. Boza yeka yeka. He is a failed chap trust me. He has also not being appointed, Vodafone advertised for the job,, the chap as usual applied. He is an employee period No brainer for me.

  6. Congratulations Amon.

Those of you saying this is not news. Jealous. kalijo. Muchinje.

The news that would have interested Zambians would read like:

    Amon wamugwira Chigololo.
Mkazi wake wathawa. He has been fired without benefits!!. He has failed to pay back his loan

  7. He seems to be a very good job seeker and employee has worked hard and achieve results but we needed news on entrepreneurship. We wanted to know what he has done for himself and how many poor Zambians have benefited from him in terms of jobs. I have a small katemba and have employed 35 Zambians and paying taxes to the Government .

    • He is able to be hired by two big companies in this high position, absolutely he got good skills and competences, no blame on him that he moves fast to another company, it’s up to the company whether it is able to hold and remain a talent like him.
