Japan says Zambia will be among the three African countries it is targeting for its Agricultural development programme.

“Japan has already appointed a Senior Agriculture Advisor under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) who will soon be sent to Zambia as part of enhancing development cooperation and support to the sector, “ Mr. Horri said.

He said Japan will endeavor to assist Zambia realise her development agenda by encouraging Foreign Direct Investment and offer technical support.

“Zambia should count on Japan because the government stands ready to support the country’s development agenda as espoused in the Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP). We also look forward to quality Oversees Development Assistance (ODA) in various sectors including Agriculture,” Mr. Horii said.

He disclosed this at his office in Tokyo Japan when he held talks with Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary for International Relations and Cooperation, Chalwe Lombe.

And Mr. Lombe says government is happy that Zambia and Japan share common interests and goals for development as can be seen in the SNDP and the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD).

He said Zambia looks forward to receiving the Senior Agriculture Advisor especially that government has placed the agricultural sector top in the five year blue print, the 7NDP.

Earlier, Japan and Zambia held a policy dialogue that will serve as a platform for bilateral cooperation.

Mr. Osuga said he is confident that Zambia will grow the economy if it sticks to the development plan especially diversification of industries which also happens to be on the TICAD agenda.

Meanwhile, Mr.r Lombe said government has taken progressive measures aimed at restoring the country’s economy.

He said it is for this reason that the country is encouraging private sector participation in the growth of the economy to avoid commercial borrowing and resist falling into the debt trap.

He said government through the Embassy in Tokyo will ensure that more Japanese private companies invest in Zambia.

    • Because you are very dull and docile …you would rather pray than sweat in the fields and export food to Japan. Japan has no land but they maximise the little they have by using green houses whilst you sit on your bum drinking beer and chibuku!!

    • Iwe kolwe I’ve told you not to engage me because of your uncircumcised manners. If I drink chibuku am I using your father’s money. There’s enough space here for you to keep on squeezing your fat anus in my postings.

  1. That’s shame …Japan like other developed countries is looking for future food sources…this is what happens when we elect morons like Lazy Lungu who have no vision!!

  2. 3. This is good news for some people in Zambia, especially those with selfish motives of pocketing Investors money.
Since Independence, such news has come up, but no head way has been made in Agriculture development.
And yet, with or without Foreign Investors, Zambia has the potential to turn Agriculture and Agribusiness into the Main Life Line of Zambia’s Economy and its Sustenance.
What is the main root problem hampering Zambia from moving forward in almost all Development endeavors?
Greedy;Ignorance; Dependence Syndrome; No Collective and Political Will to move Forward; Myopic Outlook- No Vision; Tribal and Ethnic Bigotry; Resistance to Change; Inappropriate Attitudes, Lack of Functional and Transformational Leadership; Management and Entrepreneurial Skills; and Subordination of…

  4. Zambians are very lazy f[ools including their Malawian President Changwa. Japanese are very hard working and focused people. Zambia need someone to help how to grow crops like marijuana than unprofitable corn they been growing over and over. You have enough land and plenty of water but always b!itching about droughts.

  5. Insults only only hinder progressive talks.
Zambia like many other African countries is lacking capital. The recent political instability has contributed to the current downward trends. The JAICA initiatives have assisted Zambia a great deal for many years. Therefore…this offer is welcome. Those entrusted with the responsibility of managing this aid must do it with full patriotism knowing the Zambian economy needs a full economic recovery ..that can only be gained by diversifying the acailable
    economic fronts.

Thank you JAPAN..we need more of the same…but surely Zambian culture has to change….appetite for white collar jobs..neglecting farmers
    .poor resource mgt. Dishonest
.laziness and greed….these are vices like culture we need to confront…

  6. Keep Asia out if Africa. They take, take, take. Use the local people as labour. Dont pay. They are only here to feed their own mouths. Africa is expendable. They will take our wood, animals and leave nothing behind. They come as friends with an agenda. Dont be fooled

  7. One Zambia one nation, one land one people. One God one Christ jesus its not about politics fellow country men. How many times are going to insult our leaders. We have potential and we are doing fine but we proper markets to stimulate our farmers to do more.
