Educated people have failed Zambia-Haabazoka

University of Zambia Don Lubinda Haabazoka has charged that educated people are the ones to blame for Zambia’s under development.

Dr Haabazoka formerly of the Copperbelt University School of Business said the majority of Zambians have lost confidence in educated Zambians because they do not relate to them.

He charged that educated people in the country have failed to help solve Zambia’s problems.

“I would like to agree with the late the Micheal Sata who once said that we educated people are cowards!!! The reason most of us were trained using tax payers money was for us to come and help develop this nation! My fellow engineers by now should have come up with cheap motor vehicles which us economists would have marketed across the globe,” Dr Haabazoka said.

“It’s true when our late President says God has stopped giving out land. This land and other profitable companies we are giving out will come back to haunt us in the future.
Educated people in this country have failed to help solve Zambia’s problems. We no longer speak for the poor and close our windows at the traffic lights when street kids start begging for money. What we do not know is that our under privileged citizens look up to us for solutions for the many problems that we face.”

Dr Haabazoka added, “You find that when one person speaks out, other academicians will be the first to speak out and condemn instead of operationalizing the idea. Prof Clive Chirwa came to help and instead spent most of his time in court! Fought by jealous colleagues! People even called him all sorts of names! He went back. Where is Zambia railways now? What have we achieved?”

“We even say let children learn in local languages! Only the under privileged children are learning in local languages such that when they meet our children at grade 12 level, our children will outshine them because those won’t know any English!!! Which international research forum do they discuss in Swahili? Lozi? Bemba? Tonga? Nyanja?”

He charged, “We live in a comfort zone, receive salaries, allowances and are scared to even utter a word for fear of losing the comfort zone. Let us help those that are both in power or seeking to get power with ideas! We need to lobby them to do the right thing!! When we go with ideas, the price of these ideas should be zero. Advise the government, advise the opposition parties and that way we shall have harmony in this country.”

Dr Haabazoka stressed that the majority of Zambians have lost confidence in educated Zambians because they don’t relate to them.

“We build mansions, live in secluded neighbourhoods and turn our backs on this nation!!!! Let us wake up! We only have one Zambia. Our first assignment is to burry tribal and political divisions in the nation. The ball is in our court,” he said.

  1. Thanks doc for the advice, that is the spirit of patriotism, may more educated people unite for one purpose of developing mother Zambia

    • Let’s just be humble and accept it man, we can’t lose anything…

Black people are not capable of doing anything….

Over 50 years of freedom but we call ourselves independent… Sies

    • Who ever W.H.O , this is a total insult , look come to my office , including ask we are doing things and days are numbered for all those who think can exploit Zambia and Africa . call me 0977531821 or 0954165550 . I have been in the global space for over 20years now and working changing Zambia and Africa soon and very soon . Most of our people all they need is leadership and support .

i was getting to office at 06:00am , as iam preparing for an important meeting at 09:00am and needed to sort out some papers and clear all my mails from Asia , USA and others and move , also onlt retiring at 19:00pm . So donot insult us

    • Sad but true. I have just returned from Chile with interest in learning their economy especially the mines under pressure of Globalists pushing for privatization of every key national asset. Cannot agree more with my brother Dr. Haabazoka, but confess share a sense of shame and failure as an educated Zambian. It is the so called educated that have killed Zambia’s destiny and not the Generation of uneducated in the league of my late parents. In the dawn of neo-liberalism, the educated over zealously strapped Zambia of her every asset in the national wealth portfolio created over the years by patriots from the UNIP era. They raped and created nothing for Zambia exposing the masses to abject poverty.

    • This is the only statement I agree with in this article: Our first assignment is to burry tribal and political divisions in the nation.

On the other hand, our governments mentality is the problem, the reason why the educated either stay away completely or are part of the theft.

Create opportunities, the smart Zambians will grab them like there’s no tomorrow.

Create corruption, and you’ve taken opportunities away from all Zambian citizens, regardless of education.

    • And what is the alternative? Bowman lusambo, Kampyongo, Davis Mwila poor people’s party president Muliokela?
It is not the educated people that have failed us it is the many thieves masquerading as politicians who have spoilt the good name for a few good people.
Educated or not they are all crooks ask South Africans!

    • To further add on what Dr Habaazoka said in reference to the Late Great MCS- “Ama Engineers ku UNZA ne fikwakwa uku kwempa efwayni, efwayni bane taba panga bafikezi” and its true! That very blunt statement by the Late Great MCS is just a clear and true state of affairs of what we have in Zambia-eductaed f000ls who fail completely to apply what they learn in the classroom to everyday problems of which Zambia is faced with soooo many! I think Zambia needs an ex military mind the likes of Miyanda to rule because we are really behind and these educated civilians who just want to steal have let us down immensely!

    • Mwabasoka indeed, if they have ears, let them hear and act!Congratulations for your movement from CBU to UNZA.This is the way educated people behave instead of fanning trouble all the time.CBU has lost direction due to personal hatred for the management/administration.

    • But politicians in Africa are always running away from educated people. In the western world, A lot of important political meetings and debates take place at Universities. His Excellence ECL has not visited a single university since he became president of Zambia. The only president to ever visit a university after KK was Levy mwanawasa and we know what Mwanawasa did for this country. he had no fear for intellectuals. That’s why he succeeded because he knew that tapping from Zambia’s intellectual wealth was going to give him results. Just compare the current cabinet’s level of education with Mwanawasa’s cabinet. In short, politicians need to make a decision to consult educated people.

    • We Zambians like merry making and sex that’s what occupies our minds day after day. This in return leads to stealing money and conning people or altogether squander money which could have been saved to use in some project. Imagine the huge bank loans people get to buy jeeps!

    • Prof said and I quote “… stressed that the majority of Zambians have lost confidence in educated Zambians because they don’t relate to them.” End of quote. Axiomatic!!! You could not have said it better.

The biggest problem with an average so called educated Zambian is that they want to be and sound sophisticated and it is because our tertiary education system is flawed.

The American system produces high achievers because their system is “Keep IT Simple Stup1d” (KISS)!!! I remember in one of my graduate classes, a guy from Nigeria was asked to explain investments alternatives.

He went into a long diatribe and after he finished, the professor asked him what he really meant in simple English and the guy could not, then the Prof turned to the rest of us and what he said has…

He went into a long diatribe and after he finished, the professor asked him what he really meant in simple English and the guy could not, then the Prof turned to the rest of us and what he said has stayed with me.

He said, the reason we get an education is so that we can break down the most complex issues, theories and hypotheses into very simple but applicable scenarios that someone who has not been to school can understand.

Not with the Zambian context, we go Nigerian thinking by sounding sophisticated people will think we are learned. It’s the other way round … we want it to sound so complex so that our audience would be shaking their heads.

I did the hard course like Advanced Physics but when I am speaking Newtonian motions, I must explain it in…

I did the hard courses like Advanced Physics but when I am speaking Newtonian motions, I must explain it in simple terms like ukweenda. I did very serious statistical analysis and so when someone asks me about probability I just need to assure them they should not worry … probability in bemba bwelenganyo fye mwila tina iyo

Heaven help us all so we can learn to just KISS (Keep It Simple Stup1ds)

  2. I agree with you 100% but only some educated people.

HH failed to help zambia at the time his education was needed most but instead he saw an opportunity to make himself rich.

Most educated people again fail to speak about the corruption in government because they are part of it and see and opportunity to make themselves rich.

Most educated people know that Lungu is a very weak leader but they have taken his weakness to make themselves rich at the expense of the nation

  3. Right now thugs and caders rule Zambia…..they control the police and are sent by theives to attack and harass anyone with ideas the thieves in power feel will loosen their grip on power…..

    • Stick to the topic. Prof. Habaazoka didn’t metion Lungu here. He’s talking about cowards like you Spaka, who are in the comfort zone of the whiteman as a second class, fringe citizen. Come back and open factories and businesses here so we can compete with the Indians not hiding in your comfort zone and attacking the president daily.

    • Citizen….

I chose to stay here, too much corruption and political violence to see……i can not open up factories and remain silent with all the injustice , suffering and mismangment going on, PF thugs will attack.

    • Those Indians only care about externalising profits, they don’t care the direction the country is taking or how much we owe their only preoccupation is making money out of Zambia…..some of us who care where we are headed as a country are threatened with violence….the shame is on you for supporting corruption blindly

  4. Don you are spot on, your message is quite inspiring and you have outlined very important points. The problem is that we have discarded our uniting motto: “One Zambia One Nation” and we have also neglected our village concept where we used to co exist and promote family values.

  5. Well spoken mwandi Habazooka. For many years l have lived abroad, l have observed with deep anger inside me the tendency of we Africans especially, to obtain only degrees at all costs yet at the end, we’ve ended up doing cleaning jobs at nursing homes, supper markets etc. Let’s all return home to teach our young survival SKILLS…

  6. WHEN WE TOLD YOU THAT IN ONE MICHAEL MHRIP THERE WERE 10 ECONOMISTS, 20 TEACHERS, 6 CURRENT OPPOSITION LEADER INCLUDING HH…….

HERE IS AN ECONOMIST SAYING NOTHING BUT QUOTING MICHAEL WORD FOR WORD…

  7. Haabazoka well spoken. You the right persons Educated and thinking of others. The so called educated Zambians are definitely a disappointment whether in Private or public sectors. How can you allow foreigners to take control of RTSA for 17 years. You mean we have no educated people in this country. University of Zambia and CBU where are you today 53 years after independence. Council Engineers cant even mend a road. Come to Kitwe and see Kwacha Road, pass by UCZ Kwacha East and Changanamai to Bulangililo. Kazembe Road Kanofye ukwensha Pajero, Isuzu na ma Hilakishi.

    • @ Wisdom Pays.
You’re right. Kitwe is a mess. Just go around the central business district and you’ll be surprised how potholed the roads are. two weeks ago, I wanted to go ZESCO in town and attempted to use the small road near Davis mwila house going to city square/library. I came out using the other road that passes near ZSIC heading directly towards the civic centre and New ZMART building. It’s a sad story. It’s like someone just went there with a machine and started digging holes but it’s only a result of disrepair. The whole CBD is becoming impassable now. The people of Kitwe need to start holding their MPs accountable.

  8. Stop talking about politics everyday.
All we educated f00ls do is attack the government everyday.
When are we going to embarrass the politicians by showing our own works?
Everything ni boma including our personal hygiene sure?
I am sick and tired of this fake education that leads to people talking endlessly.

  9. The problem in Africa is that the political climate is not conducive to constructive dialogue . Educated people are often viewed as a challenge to the people in power and are often subject to intimidation . At the end of the day nobody wants to have their head bashed in by so-called cadres ,who are nothing but political thugs. One can hardly develop new technology while serving a jail term with hard labour on some trumped up charge. The unity and optimism of 24 October 1964 is long gone and been replaced by greed and despair.

    • I don’t think so. That is a stereotypical view that educated people are often seen to challenge political power. The problem is that educated people want to use unlawful means to be heard. Look at LAZ. If they used laid down laws and procedures, they wouldn’t attract the attention of authorities.

    • Iwe citizen…

PF thugs and the police are attacking opposition weekly and smashing radio stations who host opposition figures ….people with opposing views are attacked in Zambia….

    • @Spaka: Totally off topic. This is not about Lungu and PF, it’s about one’s contribution to the betterment of this nation. Senior citizen @1.2 has put it like this: “It’s time to introspect and step up to the call of service to the country.” (Quote of the day!!!) Most of you diasporans have nothing to offer this country, just excuses and vile language. Meanwhile adopted patriots like Trade Kings are leading the way….Spaka you say wasted years, I think wasted human beings in diasporan comfort zones….

    • Citizens…..

Waisted citizens are you driving around in your air conditioned SUVs while millions of Zambians have no acsses to clean drinking water and are drinking dirty contaminated water….right in the capital city……and for your own information some of my tax money which I pay in the European union is given to you theives in PF as aid for which without you can not survive…..

  10. If the educated people have failed Zambia try the ignorant ones and you’ll get things 20 times worse.Did you not see the causes that brought us cholera?

  11. znbc play the damn video clip for us to judge it for our selves! why bring chitotela to justify what EL said? simple, show it we see it! ubomba mwibala alya mwibala is simple excuse for stealing! a house made taking things from ur home without ur permission is theft! ba Lungu bena bamonapo nebala apapene!!!!

  12. the educated leave the comfort of their mansions to go and vote only for the uneducated poor to counter vote them 1:5 so who is to blame. this analysis is wrong Haabazoka! the poor have let themselves down by not realizing that the government owes them more.

    • @dreamboi. ..Kaunda was a mere grade 9 but he did things the so called educated have failed. …he built the University of Zambia, Northern Technical College, UTH, he worked with the mines to start the Zambia Institute of Technology. He also had a flawless and comprehensive system of employing school leavers and college graduates. There was no back door recruitment. He created the Zambia National Service to offer skills to those not able to do so in ordinary institutions. The list is endless.

    • You are right man. That’s why the whitevman never even day accept one man one vote rubbish. Manyvfools can outvote few good people and someone will call that democracy. Truth is Africans were not ripe for responsibility of democracy.

  13. It’s been the concept of a large portion of Zambians that education is the passage to a good job. If you ask anyone of those in so called good jobs about a simple algebra equation like simultaneous, they’ll not know it because as soon as they got that good job they threw away all the books. Yes it’s good to have a good job but it even be better if we can from time to time think of how our education can advance lives of other people.

  14. All the towns were all bush but someone from a far off land came, stayed in tents and turned a bush into Kitwe, Ndola, Lusaka etc. The black man can’t accept to stay in the bush. He’d rather commute from Kitwe to Lufwanyama everyday of the week. Employ Europeans as nurses, doctors, teachers at Lufwanyama all of them will shift on the same day. The black man loves comfort maningi.

  15. The dic may be right to some extent, but we lack political will to forge ahead and set our priorities straight. Politicians have failed us in this country, educated people are under political influence and cannot make decisions due to serious political interference in the public sector. It is totally wrong to blame the educated people when we have politicians who are bend to force their selfish agenda across. PF was seen a poor man’s party that was established to solve the problem of the and yet under them, life is becoming expensive by the day. Educated people are not given space to even work independently. Let us be honest and cane these politicians their selfish way of running the country.

    • What’s is political will and who’s supposed to have this thing called polical will? Kaunda did everything to make our education translated into practice.

    • …hmmm…blaming the politicians is very easy. But look at this scenario. Zambia has produced copper since the 1800s. Right now Zambia has a lot of engineers, managers, accountants etc. But all the cable manufacturing companies in Zambia are foreign owned: ZAMEFA-CBI industries (RSA), Neelkanth Cables (Indian), ZALCO cables (Lebanese)….why haven’t our engineers and other educated Zambians done this??? Want to blame the politicians again????

    • Citizen it’s called empowerment….mugabe made it a law that 50 % of a company must be indginous , you will see black zimbos take the lead soon…….in Zambia our leaders favour foreigners because of bribes…look at how lamise is into the RATSA arrangement when Zambian bussiness leaders and engineers should have be tasked to be the 3rd player…

    • @Spaka chikopo: empowerment or communism rebooted??? You want things on a silver platter?? You want nationalisation??? Zalco cables and Neelkanth was built from scratch. Those Asians borrowed money, bought machinery and started making cables, why can’t our very educated engineers do the same??? That RTSA tender was open, Lamise won it, what is wrong with that?? He chose the right partner to work with, so????

    • @#Spaka…And how old are you? KK tried to empower us and that’s how come we had words like Zambianization and Nationalization. Some of the privatized companies were given to Zambians who later pawned off machinery and spares. Please let’s not be ashamed to accept our shortfalls. You’re in UK so I am sure you’ll have seen the difference between the Britons and Zambians in terms of commitment and responsibility.

    • @8.5 Citizen…

You are lying about lamise winning an open tender , everything is for sale and up for grabs with PF in Zambia and if PF was not intrested in bribes why did they not take the lead as in GRZ and put a consortium of Zambian leaders and engineers to be the 3rd player……but they are too lazy and corrupt that your pf and would rather give Lebanese for bribes…

    • Spaka we’ve had so many governments and yet so called indigenous Zambians have not much to show for. Indian Zambians like Dr Raj Mathani have prospered even owning proper banks. All we do is discriminate against them like Hitler did against the Jews. Best is to learn from these people. Even making bread Zambians of Greek origins are doing very well. Sometimes its not bad for self criticism and start from there. Even among ourselves we accuse those doing well of using juju for wealth.

    • Ndanji

As GRZ there is no other option than trying to empower Zambians non stop, the alternative is xenophobic attacks when it is seen that all wealth is in the hands of a few…

    • In one interview , a white guy asked bob marley if as a white man he could become a rasta with his white skin ? To which mr marley replied

      ” do you have a choice ? ”

Same for GRZ , they have no choice but to keep trying to spread the wealth …….

    • #Spaka. .if you live in a glass house don’t throw stones. I’m sure if HH were president and Kambwili made those attacks on the Chinese or whoever HH would have brought in, your language was going to be different. It appears State House is your aim at any cost regardless of the consequences.

  16. Well, that’s a nice opinion sir. Just like the opinions of thousands of Zambians on social media, kitchen parties, in bars and at golf clubs. The secret to unlocking this challenge in Zambia is to do away with these entitled, parasitic leeches passing themselves off as leaders. The only generation that will fix this country is sadly, the one that’s in our scrotums.

    • Mmmmmmmh! I doubt that, a successful man is one who leaves a successor, never saw that, it had to fists of fury plus courts to install someone to replace him. We are in this sh*t hole because he never left a successor.

    • Very wrong!!! Sata DID choose a successor. It is those that had been conspiring to take over when he was sick that caused the in fighting. Sata had clearly chosen ECL-Mama Inonge, Chikwanda, Scott and other very senior figures knew this.

    • By the way, What is being educated?Getting school certificates, diplomas, or degrees.I usually think that it’s the ability to use one’s knowledge and experiences to foster development which benefits the community/country.People think when you speak English, then you are educated. We had one on unip government, a Mr.Mwale.He the Ministry of works and supply diligently, but with humble education. For me, his humble education, was education for development!

  17. Even FTJ at one time retorted that some graduates only talk like graduates but the heads are empty. Sata without a degree organized his party better than the educated man at UPND. Form IV GBM employs and insults degree holders. Guy Scott a quantum physicist is a follower of Kambwili. In that regard Habazoka is correct

    • What do you mean Scot is a follower of Kambwili. This is the problem we have in Zambia because every serious analysis is used to include or insult the people we hate. The two mentioned are not connected to the analysis at hand.Education misused here by Ayatollah

  18. There is some element of truth in this and I would add to it that the so-called educated people have perfected the art of embezzlement and the none educated are perfecting the art of violence in politics. With the caliber of people coming out of our universities, one wonders where the talent is. The only feasible talent Zambia is producing is in the arts and I don’t think we have degree courses to go with that at Zambia’s institutions of higher learning?

  19. Zambian universities can’t even make a mango juice machine, The only thing they’re good at is Demostrations ? I was watching a luxury train from Cape Town to Tanzania, it passed trough zambia but the rail line was embarrassing villagers made of mad? Why can’t you put buy low that all the villagers should have burned bricks? We can go on ,

  20. We have got institutes like National council for construction,Engineering institute of Zambia,Zambia institute of marketing,Law association of Zambia,ZICA etc all these associations need to redefine their objectives to have a meaningful contribution on Zambia. We have had a very senior Engineer serve as EIZ president and at the same time occupy an equally top position at Mopani. If you ask how much influence EIZ had on the numerous new projects at Mopani or other mines, its zero except for member affiliations. All the projects come with foreign designers and consultants. Surely something is wrong somewhere. Why cant these institutions go beyond member affiliations and take the lead in Zambias industrialisation as opposed to leaving it to foreigners??

  21. Very true. Educated people have not helped this country develop. Instead they have helped themselves develop. No wonder we are called sh**hole countries

  22. I’d like to agree with this article but however my point of concern comes in when the ‘level’ of education being refered to here is explained. Our western peers education system is more efficient than ours, in that they have a more practical approach towards their problems that involves everyone and use professionalism in all they do. An example you used here is a zambian engineer to make a car, cars are not made by one individual, but by a combination of fields, that engineer needs a team to working independently on how to assemble the vehicle, from the mechanics, to the electric, and the visual comfort. The team will consist of at least 5 different professionals. Our engineer will be expected to build it alone, from scratch, which is impossible because no knowledge has been passed…

  23. In Zambia,we have a porous school curriculum where students only know how to memorize in order to pass exams. There is too much irrelevant stuff taught which do not add value for someone to critically think of how to solve problems.

  24. Cadres tell me that u eat your degrees we are chopping the money, no coutesy, but iam respected in Japan, involved in transportation infrastructure, why subject myself and my family to mistreatment? MPs are chosen on account of someone being rich and lives with the people, should i leave my job and stay in the village to win an election? lets be fair to each other. CEO’s are appointed by the president based on bootlicking and once in office they cannot exercise their own right to decide on issues just on auto pilot, so what is the need for crying out to the educated mass when u dont want us

  25. Let us unit build this great nation. we people of Zambia small and great we are Zambians . we can yes we can. let us remove the tag of tribalism and regionism. no political parts. Love Zambia so much. Let us bring our Knowledge , wisdom, and wealth together to build Mother Zambia.

  26. Uyu Doctor alasa. Our education system produces thousands of job seekers and not graduate every year because most of us want to be employed.I rember when I was young boy I saw a mechanical engineer on ZNBC TV complain that there are no jobs in Zambia .My father got so furious with the man because Zambia imports a lot of USED cars which have a very short life span and often need repairs. The ***** like many other educated Zambians don’t see opportunities. All they want is to be employed by Chinese who pay peanuts. Complain a lot hoping God will hear their stupid prayers but in vain .

  27. I wonder why the government fails to tap into the engineering knowledge some of these mining companies possess. Roads and rail are some of the key infrastructures that mining companies can play a major role in. Rather than just leaving us with deep holes in the ground, it’s time they contributed to the development of infrastructure.

  28. @anyoko

The issue is not whether or not you can deliver tangible results. It’s the ability of educated people driving an agenda for Zambia’s development for the betterment of everyone. With good interpersonal skills one can without raising fears of threats, rally all and sundry behind that agenda meaningfully. Appointment of CEOs even though it’s the president’s prerogative is subject to ratification therefore one needs to be seen to be on top in one’s field of expertise. Prof. Chirwa used to publish articles in Zambia’s newspapers hence the knowledge of him. Excel where you are at and someone will mention your name to the powers that be. Don’t oppose what you have little or no knowledge of and you’ll be fine.

  29. @futurezed

The govt did ask mopani to do a road from firebrigade roundabout to central street traffic lights some years ago when the EIT research released a report that Zambia was being ripped off by the investor. Believe me, it was a terrible job and had to be redone by an independent contractor. Yet very educated roads engineers worked on it. We actually let ourselves down as Zambians. We are hard working people but lack individualism in a group. Let’s encourage one another to excellence maybe things will change for the best.

    • Mopani is owned by a joint venture which includes ZCCM-IH and is a Zambian registered company. That should tell you everything you need to know. If the job was shoddy then whoever was project managing from the government side was incompetent. Tapping into knowledge does not mean people doing it for you. It means putting together a team of engineers from your side to collaborate with experienced engineers with specialist knowledge on some of the design challenges. These companies have the capacity to bring in specialist machinery but the technical knowledge could be utilized from local sources.

  30. Then we need help, about foreigners controlling RTSA for it’s great l could even be happy 2 see foreigners at helm and almost all departments l say this because am deaf myself but have been hindered by Zambian RTSA blindly thinking being deaf can lead 2 accidents but in other countries people with healing impairments driving freely examples of these are ltaly, RSA ,Tunisia Germany 2 mention but few

  31. @ ROKA if the level of education defined man’s wisdom then Dr Guy Lindsay Scott would still be leading the National Lima Party and not following Kambwili. Since Edgar fired him he’s been a follower of Miles Sampa, Hichilema and now Kambwili. Are you sure that behavior can help solve national problems? I don’t

  32. Well spoken Mr Don, the only problem we have is loyalty to so called leaders and to an extent of worshipping them in the case of UPND. Until we realizes that ECL is not taking us anywhere and that HH is even more confused and self centered than ECL. These crop of Politicians, ECL, HH, GBM, Nawakwi and many old timers in political circles like RB need to be replaced seriously. HH hates ECL but they are both the same in many ways. ECL can’t appreciate anything about HH and HH can’t likewise about HH These two guys are the ones that are bringing primitive fights and stupid cadres are busy fighting each other for nothing or merely for Chibuku. They need to pave way for others with fresh ideas to lead the nation.

  33. Habasoka! They took money and stuck it in Panama! They avoid to pay taxes and are involved in money laundering! Yes, “educated” HH has failed Zambia!

  34. Probably lobbying for a job, ba Habaazoka. If you are a real economist have you really thought hard about what you have uttered? Those are lazy populist remarks not befiffing a professional like you.

  35. I agree with the Doc only to an extent. He also contradicts himself when he cites the Chirwa saga – an educated man who wanted to contribute positively was hounded out by an already existing culture of “we are here to eat. Don’t disturb the status quo”. In short, I want to argue that educated people and technocrats would only have realised their potential for the good of the country where the environment allowed for the same. At some point we allowed the riff-raff to hijack the affairs of the country. As a consequence, institutions that are meant to grow more intellectuals have been debased. I don’t believe the current educational system is even producing for industry and development. The current ‘educated’ or unemployed, are now victims of the same degradation.

  36. In order for Zambians to be empowered, educated or uneducated, try what I term as the snow ball effect which is as follows: If a group of Zambians come together (say a group of 1000 Zambians), each one contributes X amount of money, say K5000. This group would have K 5, 000,000.00 to play with in the game of investment, empowerment, etc. I think a lot can be done with such an amount as the group sees fit.

  37. I can’t agree more but this points a question of whom do you say should lead this country if not educated people …it was lack of education that lead to the selling of our own country, I bet that’s the reason you went to CBU to be educated and see how you can enforce your education abilities to change the country… what we have in Zambia are politicians and not leaders with a contrite heart who are capable of managing the needs of people… but only know how to feed their own selfish lives … politicians always thinking of how to win elections only … you will reap what you sow anyway …

  38. Thumbs up Doc!!! The educated are capable of leading this nation, but the nature of being human is the reason for failure, we have intelligent leaders but others are born selfish, the environment has made them corrupt or they just don’t care about the neighbors. We as well have educated born leaders but they have been robbed off the opportunity of leadership. Most of the educated depends on making money for others not using their intelligent tools help them make money; likes of bill gates and others.

  39. Let me rename the snow ball effect to the Kavuluvulu effect, It starts small but as it goes on it becomes bigger and bigger.
