The University of Zambia (UNZA) says the institution will only re-open at the end of this month once it meets the standards set by Lusaka City Council (LCC) Inspectors.

UNZA Registrar Sitali Wamundila said the management is working tirelessly to ensure that areas that require attention are attended to in order to meet the essential health standards.

Mr. Wamundila disclosed that after the inspection made by the Public Health inspectors from the LCC, management at the institution has been working hard to ensure that the areas reported are worked on.

ZANIS reports that the Registrar cited the rehabilitation of the ablution blocks, mending of the water leakages and general improvement of water supply as some of the works being undertaken by the university.

He explained that the management has spent about K1 million towards the maintenance of the institution.

Mr.wamundila retaliated that lack of financial and human resources faced by the institution has contributed to the delay in completing rehabilitation works.

He added that the university has been built for over 50 years therefore, its infrastructure requires massive rehabilitation.

Mr. Wamundila explained that the institution is the largest university in the country in terms of infrastructure and student number and that the amount of work required to conclude the rehabilitation is also massive.

  1. I maybe naïve but some things just don’t add up. Ok look if we can find money to buy one fire engine at 1m USD never mind the other costs we have met. If Mukula is as hot as it is made out if we inject 1m dollars from the proceeds of mukula can this money be used to bring unza to speed???? Just asking like I said I might be naïve but cosmetic fixing of Unza wont help us…

  2. money has beeen squandered how can they say they have financial difficulties to rehabilitate Unza
where did the fire tender money come from?

  3. That university is where sanity must start and hey, they have been exposed otherwise. Did it need the coming of cholera on the scene for them to realize that their ablution was below acceptable levels? Our late President Mr. Chiluba would have ended it like “come on guys”

  4. God have mercy on us. Out of school for nearly six months will not make it easy for us to adapt to learning. …this is serious.
