Angela Bassett channeled the African queen she played in Black Panther to present an award at American Black Film Festival Honors in Beverly Hills on Sunday night.

The Oscar nominee easily defied her 59 years in a $169 Mangishi Doll Co. SS/18 ‘MD Marsha Pencil II’ dress featuring a Chitenge print from Zambia selected by stylist Jennifer Austin.

“Mangishi Doll (MD) is an Afro-Eclectic clothing line, inspired by bold prints and unique style. It is a contemporary line intentionally crafted for the Doll that dares to stand out!

The clothing line was established in 2014, founded by African Designer, Kapasa Musonda who was born and raised in Zambia. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, California U.S.A.  Since establishment, Mangishi Doll is steadily growing, with an online presence that has channelled exports to the U.S.A, Europe, Australia and Africa.”

    • Zambia women thrive outside Zambia because they are not respected at home. When they dare to dream They are called Hules by their own men. I.e. above comments. It shows the pea size brain of the Zambian male

  1. O h this is awesome. Black Panther has now put two Zambians in the spotlight in an addition to the BAFTA award to Rungano Nyoni for I am Not A Witch. Good stuff!

  2. Well done! These are women we want in Zambia – not aya ma h u l e passing themselves off as fashionistas, designers and models.

  3. THAT’S GREAT.NOMBA MUCHITEKO IMPROVE YOUR DESIGNS BA Kapasa Musonda. WE ZAMBIANS MUST START TO BELIEVE IN ‘EXCEEDING’ (PARDON ME IF THE SPELLING ISN’T RIGHT). NIGERIANS HAVE BECOME SERIOUSLY GOOD DESIGNERS. THIS IS BECAUSE THEY WANT TO EXCEED.

  4. This is truly amazing and inspiring… Congratulations to kapasa for dressing such a legend in the Hollywood industry and at such a crucially empowering occasion. Having said this, don’t misunderstand she is a great designer and is heading for big things I just need to complain about the dress itself that was made for Angela. I don’t know if she chose herself or what but, I feel it could have been better more beautiful more eye-catching, instead when I saw the dress I started see the mismatched lining pattern on her bust, then a crisscross leather strapping which was too much for the dress considering the chitenge pattern underneath. Not to mention the red band pattern on the waist down was too long and the dangling leather at the bottom like a cowgirl. I jst thnk the design couldve bn…

  5. Musonda, well done, you have not only proved others wrong but put Zambia and Northern Power in serious lime light! Am sure others arent happy that a Super model is spotting something from ba Tubulu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are hot after all. Let others spend time being bitter and sulking on the net whilst we make hay whilst the sun shines. We are all proud of U gal, nafuti nafuti, nipa bwatooooooo…………….

  6. Its a shame Kapasa Musonda doesn’t choose good designs for herself..look at that photo where she is camouflaged in between those potted plants.

  7. @B R Mumba, Sr; am one of those cheering her; Your PF is the one that has divided us; anyone condemning PF thuggery and corruption is seen as UPND or Tonga; i look to a day when Zambians can cheer one another like this one without letting politics divide us;

  8. So happy to see Kapasa Musonda’s design here. I have known about her for some time now and I know she’s a great designer. She has done better designs than this complete with matching shoes and bags. Well done Kapasa. You are an inspiration to the younger ones. Yes. She’s young too.
