Zesco beat Napsa to reach 2018 Charity Shield final

Share

Defending champions Zesco United secured their 2018 Charity Shield final passage on Sunday after beating Napsa Stars 3-2 in their replayed semifinal match at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.

The match was restarted at the 60th minute mark after Saturday’s game was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch at Nkoloma following a first half storm.

Zesco and Napsa went into the last 30 minutes tied at 1-1 after a Bornwell Silengo equalizer via a 43rd minute free kick and an 6th minute Alex Mwamba penalty respectively.

And it was Silengo who opened scores on Sunday with another free kick in the 81st minute but Luka Lungu restored parity five minutes later.

Zesco they won a stoppage time penalty after Napsa goalkeeper Masosa Bola charged at and elbowed Dave Daka in the area.

Bola was sent off by referee Wisdom Chewe and then Zesco midfielder Misheck Chaila stepped up to convert the penalty against ten-man Napsa.

Zesco will face Nkana on March 17 at the same venue in a repeat of last year’s final that the defending champions won 2-0 in Ndola.

Nkana qualified to the final after a 2-1 win over Zanaco at Nkoloma on Thursday.

  1. Something doesnt add up here , the match was abandoned on saturday due to floods in the 60th minute, what were the scores? On a repeated match on sunday why play for only 30minutes? did they change goals at 15th minute mark ? I thought by the rules on sunday should be a fresh game for 90 minutes , ADVISE ME SOCCER GURUS

  2. The game was stopped in the 60th minute due to bad weather,
Therefore was restated from were it ended…..the rules were observed perfectly well.
    Big up to ZESCO!!!!!!

  3. These Congolese they ‘re disciplined. Masosa Bola did exactly what Walter Binene Sabwa Heritier did at the beginning of last season. I appeal to NSPSA to punish this guy because he cost them the game. Zambian players don’t behave that way

    • @Power 90: You’re spot on! Most Congolese players are a rough kind in many aspects of the ball game; being it physical or mental – Idriss Ilunga Mbombo used his middle finger on his fans at the Ndola stadium last year, hence becoming unpopular and making his stay at the club uncomfortable. They are just afew that are calm in their attitudes like the lethal Lusaka Dynamos player in Chris Mugalu.

  4. Does chembo, Ave the right qualifications for a coach?.If not, then zesco has the right to employ a qualified coach.I can blame zesco.I think zesco administration are thinking on the best interests of the club.Am nkana supporter, but Ave not been happy to see the standard of football going down by zesco. I desire that the standard for zesco must rise, for the sake of the national team and to give nkana, zanaco, buffalo and power good competition. If chembo is not qualified, then he should not complain, but ask the administration to give him another job.Zescos standards have gone down. And it”s not good for the country. I support the move by the zesco administration to employ a qualified coach.
