Solwezi residents warned against selling free condoms

Share

Solwezi Municipal Council has cautioned members of the public against selling condoms which the local authority has been distributing in public places.

Council Assistant Public Relations Manager, Esther Chirwa said it is sad that some people have resorted to selling condoms distributed in public premises for free saying the act prevents intended recipients from accessing the commodity.

Ms. Chirwa said in a statement availed to ZANIS that the council distributes condoms every week in selected public places within Solwezi district such as night clubs, guest houses, lodges, hotels, bars and public toilets to prevent new HIV infections.

“All interventions are aimed at eliminating new infections of HIV/AIDS by 2030 in line with the global vision,” she said.

Ms. Chirwa said the Local authority is coordinating all HIV/AIDS related activities in the district in partnership with various stakeholders such as Ministry of Health, Zambia Community of HIV Prevention project, Kansanshi mines, Discover Health, Moment of Hope and the Victim Support Unit among others.

She stated that the target populations for the interventions include commercial sex workers, truck drivers, adolescents, young mothers and couples.
