Food Agriculture Organization (FAO) Country Representative Dr. George Okech has expressed confidence that despite experiencing prolonged drought and erratic rainfall during the 2017-2018 farming season, the country is still poised to record a good harvest this year.

Dr. Okech has told Q-News that the fact that the country is likely to record a good harvest later this year, even after experiencing some drought is what makes it to stand out as one of the few countries in Southern African which is Food secured.

He has observed that the only problem threatening the country’s food production is mono-cropping.

Dr. Okech points out that there is too much dependant on maize crop, hence the need for the country to diversify to other crops that can add value to the national food security.

He has since urged government through the Ministry of Agriculture to promote crop diversification so that farmers can reduce dependence on maize and start growing crops such as Sorghum, Legumes and Millet on large scale if food security is to be sustained.

  1. Do we know how blessed we are? No we don’t otherwise we have wiped out poverty a long time ago. We spend precious time on frivolous issues.

  2. I thank the Lord our God for the grace and favour that he has granted our beloved nation of Zambia. Come draught, come load shedding, come war mongers, etc You still provide for us. What a Miracle & a Blessing! It’s so easy to ignore His Hand of favour and the blessings He bestows on us. Amidst all these blessings some of us Zambians are so bitter and unthankful. Lord Jesus, I ask for Your forgiveness. We sometimes fail to see & appreciate what You do for this country that is named after You & I pray that You never withdrawal Your Hand of Favour on this our Christian Nation, Zambia. God Bless Zambia

  3. Because it was an FAO rep that said it, animal farm is nowhere to be seen! If it were spoken by our President, demons would have been all over here! Satan – YOU ARE A LOSER!
