Two Zambia students on a on the Zambia /Algeria Government Scholarships on Sunday, June the 3rd, drowned in the Mediterranean Sea.

According to the statement released to the media by Head of Public relations at the Ministry of Health Stanslous Ngosa, Minister of Health Hon Dr Chitalu Chilufya, who is Acting Minister of Higher Education, confirmed the incident today in Lusaka and identified the deceased as Kelvin Musanda, 19 and Innocent Kawilo Kangwa, 20.

Kelvin was a first year student in Material Science while Innocent was a first year student in Electrical Engineering.
The deceased met their fate while in the company of a Zambian Community and other foreign students, based in Tlemcem, Algeria who had gone to the Beach to celebrate the completion of the French Language instruction by the first year students.

A strong wind swept Kelvin and in a bid to rescue him by Innocent, was also taken by the wave resulting in both students drowning.

They were both retrieved from the Sea but pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The Government, through the Zambian Embassy in Cairo, responsible for Algeria is doing everything possible to repatriate the remains of our students back to Zambia. The Education Attaché is being sent to Algeria to coordinate the process.

“As a caring Government, we are profoundly saddened by this tragic loss of vibrant young Zambians. We request the rest of the Nation to put the families of the deceased Zambian students in their prayers, ” concluded the statement

  1. May their souls rest in peace and comfort to their families and friends. Why is the Minister of Health making this public statement? Even though he is in an acting capacity for Higher Education, isn’t there a PS in the Higher Education Ministry who can do this? Just wanting to appear relevant all the time instead of performing their stipulated duties. No wonder you have time to steal and have medicines stolen.

    • Mushota:You are a fool…until you lose someone close to you that’s when you will learn about death it’s the most painful thing to lose someone in such a manner, sudden death hurts… I truly feel sorry for Mushota…Trash, Ugly, stink, broke, fake, etc…grow up.

    • Mushota you are high on cocaine. You don’t have a heart. Those drugs u are sniffing are getting out of order.

To our deceased vibrant youths Rest In Peace. You diee pursuing a good cause. So sad. Our prayers are with your families and may your families find solace and comfort in God almighty

  2. Dear God comfort the families. God bless the soul trying to rescue a friend. This is Sad but we pray comfort

  3. Senseless and unsafe act by our naive juveniles! This was 100% preventable! Uku samwa ama Zambians! No Safety in mind! You know you don’t know how to swim and you get into the most dangerous of waters? See the sorrow and shame you have brought not only on your families but us all! May God forgive you for what you have done! Think before you set foot in water! Sadly, very few Zambians know how to swim. It’s time we invested in swimming lessons for all Zambians starting with Toddlers in Preschools! Anione anione is rife among our young Zambians! It’s possible they were under the influence – post-mortem should rule this out to warn others! Insansa shilaletelela!!!

  4. Indeed Mushota was a wasted egg. Someone is crying the loss of their loved ones and then for you its halleluia.

  5. Obviously balikolwa bamambala. No sea in Zambia and obviously racism played a major role by life sarves there.

    • How ??? During the month of ramadan???????????? no eating or drinking is supposed to be seen in public ?? How honestly?

    • Your level of ignorance is lamentable. You are not here. Don’t insult the integrity and character of my departed friend. Vous avez mal à la tête.

    • You @ 11, 11.2 tells you that you are sick in your head. We were not there. we should put consideration to what we say.

  6. What do you mean by ‘ as a caring government “. Tell me which functional government can fail to be saddened by this. Or is it that you are not sure whether you are a functional government?
Mr embassy official, if one of your children is struck down by a car and God forbid losses her life are you going to tell the mourners that as a caring father you are saddened by this tragedy. Tell me which father would not be saddened by the death of his child?

  7. Sadly, we’ll never know the Root Cause because of funeral political correctness! A lot of questions will remain on the minds of relatives. Was there foul play? Was this a set up? Were they drunk? Did they know how to swim? We are sadly a society that never insist on proper postmortems! As a result, we never get closure on many cases and many more unwittingly repeat mistakes and pay with their lives. We can cite many examples of Zambians who drowned because of trying to swim under the influence! We are not saying they were drunk but it remains a possibility and only postmortem and toxicology can establish the root cause! MTSRIP!

  8. Comment: DJ7 or whatever you call yourself, it could have been better if you used the same time you used to write your very insensitive and unnecessary comment to find out what happened first before passing useless comments. Alcohol is not even allowed in Algeria to start with, and just because you’re drunkard doesn’t mean everyone else is. Have some respect for the dead for crying out loud. Next time find something better to do in life than to be online passing insensitive and unnecessary comments on things you don’t even know about.

  9. Comment: kelvin musanda a brother a friend…may God protect u as u are on the other side…….u be remembered……… innocent and kelvin may ur souls rest in peace

  10. Mushota please please be human. any chance this thing could be stopped posting here. RIP young souls.

  11. My sincere Condolences to the Families as well as our Students – Their Colleagues Friends. In 1976 , when in Romania for Further Studies – on Vacation sponsored by Education Authorities – on the Black Sea in Constanta (pronounced Constansa) – while swimming slightly away from shallow waters by the Beach – a sudden powerful current/Waves pushed Me inwards into Deeper Waters – I struggled to get back – I shouted “HELP” to a young Romanian guy not far from Me – I was upset when all He said was “Take It Easy”. I was in Trouble – as I ‘gulped water’ three times – was in danger of drowning – was getting exhausted. I had to strategize as all I could then manage was DOG PADDLE. As I struggled to stay afloat to get back to the Beach, I almost gave up as No Help was there for Me – I…

  12. I struggled to a point where only the Nose managed to get fresh Breath. In that Vacation Two Students drowned. It is so unfortunate to lose the young men.
Families and Friends – We mourn with You. MAY GOD GIVE YOU SOLACE AND STRENGTH TO BEAR THIS LOSS.

  13. Its a great loss not only to the family but also, Zambia and beyond. Engineers and scientists among other professionals are citizens of the world. There work at times affects humanity.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends. I pray for God’s peace and comfort.

  14. Iwe ka Mushota. This has nothing to do with tribe stupid cunt. These were Zambians who where the ages of my grand kids. I have swam the Atlantic, Indian and pacific oceans and there most of the times coast guards with boats further into the oceans getting ready for such. This was very unfortunate. Learn to be sympathetic sometimes. Obewa swana.

    • Mushota is just poking you in the head silly twerps, so you can respond to her silly comments and you are taking the bait. she’s enjoying your naivety. Just ignore her.

  15. Mushota is a sadistic moron who is always on the negative side…..is she really 100% normal. I can see madness in all her postings …..

    MTSRIP

  16. Very sad. At first I thought they were trying to cross the sea as refugees. Thank you God they were decent fellows who were just unfortunate. MTSRIP

  17. Yabinja makani aya. I got a nephew studying economics in Algeria. Believe me we were on our toes before names were released. We share the pain with you family and the nation. May the coordinators of such activities provide risk briefings to our young boys & girls. Especially, this time of the year there’s too much monsoon winds and ocean tides. Being Ramadan probably there were no coasts guards. Whatever, happened sad baane. RIP.

  18. A whole life ahead of them, taken away so fast. Prayers and God’s strength and peace to the bereaved families.

  19. Think and evaluate your comments. An accident is an accident, it does not matter whether you have skills and abilities to avoid it or not. Negative thinking in this situation is inhuman. Plse! Avoid insulting language. Be mature

  20. Terribly sad. And what some of them go through to be offered those scholarships. My God! May the Almighty Himself comfort the bereaved families

  21. So sad little ones, gone too soon. You are now at peace in a land where tribe is not an issue like someone here has posted. To the families who have lost these young men, God be with you and may he continue to strengthen you during this period. And to the family of the one who risked his life to save his friend, I hope our Government remembers to honour this gallant fallen hero. You raised a good child. May they rest in eternal peace. Isaiah 41:10.

  22. Condolences to the beareved families too bad may our dear heavenly father grants you a cup of comfort peace love & joy ay the souls of the departed colleagues rest in eternal peace

  23. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families, I personally knew Innocent and last interacted with him on WhatsApp on 18th May. MTSRIEP
