Nkana suffer first away defeat, Power down GBFC

Share

Nkana on Sunday sustained their first away loss of the 2018 FAZ Super Division season while Power Dynamos kept their 2018 Barclays Cup hopes alive with victory on the road on the same day.

At Independence Stadium in Choma, Aggrey Chiyangi had the last laugh against his former charges when Eagles beat Nkana 2-1 to end their six-match unbeaten start on the road this season in which they had collected two draws and four wins.

Spencer Sautu and Tapson Kaseba were on target for Eagles in the 45th and 56th minutes respectively who also extended their winning run to four straight games and are now unbeaten in their last six matches.

Nkana’s forgotten man Bornwell Mwape scored the 12-time champions’ face-saver in the dying minutes of the match.

Eagles jump from 8th to 7th following the significant win, displacing Nkwazi but tied on 29 points with the latter.

Nkana stay put at number five despite the loss on 30 points.

At Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka, Power moved from 7th to 6th following a 1-0 away win over second placed Green Buffaloes.

Lameck Kafwaya scored the game’s lone goal in the 26th minute to lift Power into the top six bracket ahead of this weekend’s Week 19 cut-off point for the Barclays Cup.

Power have 30 points after collecting a draw and a loss in their last two games and are 12 points behind leaders Zesco United.

Buffaloes stay second on 38 points, four points behind Zesco.

And in the late kickoff at the same venue, Red Arrows ended their five match winless run following a 1-0 Lusaka derby victory over Zanaco.

Evans Musonda’s breathtaking, long-range volley beat Toaster Nsabata to see Arrows rise from 16th to 14th on 19 points.

But Zanaco will feel they should have left Nkoloma with a point when Guily Manziba’s 85th minute goal was harshly ruled-out for offside.

Zanaco stay put at number three on 32 points after suffering their fifth league defeat of the season.

  1. Congratulations power. Let us remain focused and resolute. You can’t win anything if we are unable to beat big guns

  2. Nkana must fire the executive committee season being that they a good coach and players. So where is the problem. I have said it several times that the current executive is retrogressive. People kindly review the Performance of the EC?

  3. Comment: Power and Nkana are the best sponsored teams in Kitwe but they lack leadership from their executives year in year out its just wrangles .Shame

    • Agree with you 100%. Our club isn’t living to its potential. The problem we have are some of the clueless AIDS ravaged womanisers in the executive who masquerade as businesspeople but are in fact with no vision and capability to get the club to the next level. Except for Evaristo and one or one two others we have people there who should be concentrating on taking ARVs and not running our club. My heart bleeds for Nkana.

  4. Lets not be personal. What we are saying is that the entire executive including Evaristo Kabila. The Boy is just an engineer and the fact that he is an employee of Mopani does not mean he can be a good administrator. Please lets be positive and replace the entire executive before its too late. Critically look at the games we have lost so far and its implications. Nkana fans deserves results nothing less. At the same time we must concentrate on developing our own players than buying players year in year out who are not adding value. Yes we can buy those who can add value. Am impressed with Power they have come up with new and young crop of players and their performance is not different with us big spenders.

    • Agree with you mate, agree with you totally. I am not at all trying to get personal. All I am saying is that we have people in the executive there who shouldn’t be there. People with little education and who even if we try can not develop the capacity to move the club into a modern football outfit. People who perhaps are in there just because of tuma small businesses they have that they have failed to develop into anything meaningful but sing their praises into the executive. People who have too many issues in their lives to attend to including multiple women, in fact hookers and so on and consequently sick and need time to attend to their sick bodies. That’s nothing personal, those close to Nkana know what I mean and who these are. We want people with a vision, ambition and drive,…
