Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo has revealed that investigations into the alleged shooting of a student from the Lusaka Apex Medical University are underway.

Mr. Kampyongo said preliminary investigations show that the undeveloped land opposite the campus is used as a firing range for the Zambia Army.

He explained that on the basis of the location where the student is said to have been standing at the time of the alleged shooting, it is possible that the said student could have been shot by a stray bullet from the range.

Mr. Kampyongo stated that until facts are established, no conclusions can be drawn, adding that the absence of a conclusive report on the alleged shooting makes it difficult to suggest what should be done to avoid similar incidences in the future.

Mr. Kampyongo noted that the Zambia Police Service has since engaged the Zambia Army on the possibility of relocating the range to a less densely populated area.

He added that government regrets the death of the Lusaka Apex Medical University student.

    • The range has been there since 1980.The problem is with the council. How can they allocate residential plots in such an area?

  1. Are they not supposed to use blank bullets for training? What a waste of resources especially in the times of financial need for the country. My condolences to the victim’s family.

  2. #3.1 Wiseman from the East, yes indeed, and exactly thoughts. The question should go to the corrupt Lusaka city council which allocates plots indiscriminately. Why why why allocate plots in the vicinity of a dangerous shooting range. Useless council officers, now they are causing deaths of innocent students?

    • Yes its the council and the devil working thru these bunch of drunkard council officers. There is no responsible council in Zambia anymore , there are only *****s who only care for the money and beer drinking. Stupid *****s.

  3. Just move the blo.ody range away! Zambia Army has never fought a war and can’t even win one. Besides the range should never be in the city – they should be far away in the bushes!
Is there anything called Health & Safety in Zambia? If there is, then that piece of legislation is useless because that incident shouldn’t have taken place and that useless range should not have been located in the City!

  4. That area has always been restricted because of the several security installations. People started by encroaching the disused airstrip. Some cadres who wanted to share the land on the other side were shown by ZAF officers that even if they lift weights at Kabwata Gym they were still civilians, yali ni ponona. These are the effects of a lawless society. This death could have been avoided

    • Most people think pumping irons make you powerful. Actually a weightlifter is more powerful than a body builder.
Bodybuilders are called girlie men by weight lifters.

  6. This is a sad state of affair of shooting an innocent student who had big dreams for his or her life please quick action should be taken to prevent further loss of lives. Why such happenings. My condolences to the bereaved family.

  7. Jay Jay,always hatred for everyone. It will take you no where my dear, be objective in your life to be successful.Use that extra energy you have on progressive things.

  8. Was field risk assessment done wa mambla imwe? Government should compel soldiers to have safety officers whenever they are on operations.

  9. That area has always been restricted because of the security installations around. People began by encroaching the disused airstrip. Cadres who wanted to share the land on the other side of the road were shown by ZAF officers that even if they lift weights at Kabwata Gym they were still civilians, baliponweke. This is what happens when society becomes lawless, that death could have been avoided. Very sorry indeed

  10. These are the ghastly consequences of lawlessness. At one time cadres almost shared the ZAF land on the other side of the road. That area has always been restricted but people began by encroaching the disused airstrip. There was drama when ZAF officers showed cadres that even if they lift weights they were still civilians

  11. Lessons, lessons. Jesus whipped the entire gang that was gambling in the church, and we let people build and then reAct due to consequences. We should have acted then when they started encroaching. Life is lived and shall never be an experiment. No matter the fact that the dead has presented us with a lesson, HE IS DEAD. What a waste of resource.

  12. That land was indeed located away from the public along time ago in the Kaunda era. But time after time the city started expanding with the encroachment and land distribution by the council hence the land became engulfed. I can in my opinion suggest not to figure point each other but relocate our army far away to a less populated area
