RESIDENTS of Kalomo have welcomed the rehabilitation of the Kalomo-Dundumwezi road saying the project would ease transportation challenges that people of the district faced to ferry their agro products and access services in town and to other outlying areas.

The rehabilitation of the all weather, 75 kilometers road that links Kalomo to Itezhi-tezhi via Namwala district is one of the pilot project under the Strengthening Climate Reliesence in the Kafue basin (SCRIKA.

The project will also help to boost the tourism industry as accessibility to the Kafue National Part (KNP) would be much easier than in the past.

The Kalomo – Dundumwezi road rehabilitation project was officially flagged off by president Edgar Lungu on July,11, last year.

And Kalomo district commisioner, Cosmas Chiiba expressed joy at the beginning of the rehabilitation works by China State construction, who have of late embarked on the initial 57 kilometers stretch on the road but, however lamented over the late delay of the tarring of the 27 kilo metres selected township roads which were suppose to be done last year under the local government ministry.

Meanwhile, some youth in the district have expressed disappointment over the recruitment of the workforce on the project alleging that there is an underground method of engaging mostly the ruling party members, a move they described as depriving the youth of job opportunities.

The youth who spoke on condition of anonymity said the gesture would defeat the purpose of job creation for the locals as one of the project’s benefits.

However, Mr. Chiiba in a separate interview, refuted the allegation saying all the youth who meet the necessary required work attitudes would be engaged in the project regardless of their political affiliations.

Among the social benefits of the pilot programme for climate resilience include reduced vulnerability to flooding at household and businesses levels, limiting land degradation trends, employment creation for the locals, improve livelihood.

SCRIKA’s objective is to strengthen the country’s institutional framework for climate resilience and improve the adaptive capacity of vulnerable communities in the Kafue basin in an effort to mitigate the effects of climate change in the affected areas.

It is to be implemented in 11 districts targeting 800,000 beneficiaries, with an estimated total of 240,000 of both youth and women.

Among the districts to benefit from the programme include Kalomo, Namwala, Choma, Monze, Mazabuka, Kafue, Chibombo, Mumbwa, Itezhi-Tezhi, Shibuyunji and Pemba.

opportunities and provide a conducive environment for the expansion of local economic activities.

  1. Dont employ youths that are un patriotic
They will be delirately doing shoddy work and posting lies to ZWD to discredit govt effort

  2. “I WAS CHEATED, USED AND DUMPED BY HH” says Daniel Munkombwe. PF government means well for the people of Southern province but they don’t mean well for the government. Civil servants from this province have been frustrating government efforts to initiate and implement various projects. Some have been leaking secret intelligence information to their small god HH making HH start boasting that he has all intelligence information at his finger tips. In as much as I know that the government must take development to all parts of the country but whatever is done in Southern province will never be appreciated by these people as long as their small god HH WAMUYAYAYA is not in the state house.

  3. Good move by govt. But Let me be quick to correct the wrong notion that if you do not vote for the party in power you won’t see development. Every corner of this country deserves development and any well meaning leader can never say, “if you don’t vote for us, you wont see development. It is not party money but for the country. Lets also differentiate between the governing party and govt. The same way taxes are collected from everyone, should be the same way dev. goes everywhere.

  4. No matter how many good things you are going to do in Dundumwedzi, the people in that area will still ECL 100 votes so don’t waste time because they don’t appreciate.

  5. Nizanyoko? Says RB my boss! It sounds like a grouping wants to revert back to 1party state system of governance. Whats the relavence of votes to national development in a real democracy?Let the people of Dundumwezi vote for UPND just like their counterparts in Luapula who vote for pf. Let different ideas and dreams flow in order to make people be on their toes Pluralism is the engine room of development.
