Luapula Province Minister Nickson Chilangwa has warned that he will not take kindly to any school which chases away pupils on account of non-payment of school user fees.
Mr Chilangwa observed that the duty of pupils is to learn and not to pay school fees and school managements should instead deal with parents.
The provincial Minister also directed school head teachers to stop giving penalties to pupils who pay their schools fees late saying the action is illegal.
ZANIS reports that Mr Chilangwa who is also Kawambwa Central Member Parliament said this yesterday when he addressed Members of staff and pupils in different schools in his constituency.
Earlier Kawambwa Town Council Chairperson Kalumba Chifumbe also warned pupils against indulging themselves in illicit activities.
The council chairperson advised the pupils to work hard and put education first saying it is the only way they will be assured of a brighter future.
The Kawambwa Central law maker is in his constituency to check on developmental project.
Minister of Education can please put this on record for Zambia not only luapula province but it should apply everywhere in Zambia. Well said Mr Chilangwa .

Mr Minister why does Zesco sell prepaid power units and the are all used up power supply is cut? Mr minister be serious for once, if that is the direction the government is taking why not offer free education to the Zambians? Mr minister stop exposing your shallow thinking in this matter, if the pf government has failed to offer free education to Zambians do you think schools will manage to offer free education to Zambians? Please stop such useless politics!

These Ministers really surprise me with their useless rhetoric on education. I keep wondering whether or not they are genuine at all. Look, the Ministry of General education has not been funding schools for a long time now yet schools need to operate. Where do they get the money from? In fact the Ministry now survives on levying schools for almost all their activities including procurement of so called provincial buses, construction of office blocks and strong rooms at some DEBS like Chilanga in Lusaka. Schools are milked to the bone. Meanwhile, Chilangwa and his friends have NOT yet paid back the money they stole in 2016.
These so called leaders must realize that schools do not operate with oxygen. They must NOT be issuing threats without offering solutions. It does not make any sense…
We have dunderheads governing this country period!
Ba Minister do you know what it takes to run a school? This term exams are there and pupils have to write practicals in a number of subjects who is going to buy the materials for these practicals? For you everything is politics, try to be serious for once. Twapapata!!!

Mr so called minister, do really understand how schools are run? Don’t rush to jump into politics to please the electorates without solutions. With this poor funding, how do you expect schools to survive? Shame!!!
I think the minister has not paid school fees for his children for this new term and was worried that they might be chased hence the general appeal. Forgive him he is just another parent.
