The Zambia national team has recorded its first victory in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after beating Guinea Bissau 2-1 in an entertaining encounter played at the parked Heroes Stadium.

Stophila Sunzu put Zambia ahead in the 15th minute before Olando Pirates midfielder Justine Shonga doubled the lead in the 54th minute.

Guinea Bissau’s Fredrick Mendi pulled one back for his country in the 80th minute after an error by goal keeper Kennedy Mweene.

President Edgar Lungu led thousands of supporters in cheering the Chipolopolo boys at the Heroes Stadium.

The game was Coach Sven Vandenbroeks debut at home.

Zambia plays Guinea on Sunday 14th October 2018 in that country in the second of back to back qualifiers.

And the Zambia Sports Fans Association is confident the Chipolopolo boys will beat Guinea Bissau this Sunday.

Patron Peter Makembo said with yesterday’s desplay at the Heroes Stadium, it will be easy for the Chipolopolo boys to collect maximum points.

Makembo said qualifying for the 2019 afcon is a must for Zambia after having failed to qualify for the 2017 edition of the tournament.

  1. Congratulations mighty Chipolopolo boys!!You played splendid football despite an awful error from Kennedy Mweene!!!
The stadium was full as more than 60 000 soccer fans plus HE Edgar Lungu come to watch our boys live!!The mood was buzzing in there and ECL received a warm welcome as usual.Am sure Kainde would have loved Heroes stadium to be empty and our boys lose, but hey we should Kainde that we love our country and ECL by turning up in large numbers!!!
Lusaka came to standstill yesterday!!!KEEP IT UP CHIPOLOPOLO BOYS AND PLEASE FORGIVE MWEENE BECAUSE MAYBE HE WAS PAID BY KAINDE,HENCE ALLOWING SUCH A SILLY GOAL!!

  2. Congrats boys! well done, keep the spirit up! As for Mweene please don’t play him again becoz he always on the bench at Sundowns. God bless Zambia!

    • Sundowns have 3 international goalkeepers.
      1. Uganda- Onyango
      2. Ghana- Razak
      3. Zambia- Mweene
And all are 1st choice keepers for their countries.

  3. wonder how HH felt. am sure he is bitter about the victory. however mweene must have lifted his evil spirit after that stupid or well calculated mistake.

  4. Congrats lads, that was the best team ever since 2012.With that team Zambia can go the way.Let’s go and collect maximum points in Guinea Bissau on Sunday.

  5. Fellow bloggers and soccer fans. We all make mistakes, No one is perfect. Despite Mweene’s mistake, he still deserves respect.

  6. That’s a common mistake…look at Liverpool goalkeeper Alison the first allowed thy score him how was it….mweene need just to work extra hard otherwise keep it up ba chipolopolo

  7. Mweene is the best goal keeper in Zambia no one can beat him, if you watch game you can see that it was just a mistake which many goal keepers make , do you think he can be happy with that goal , remember all his good works, he is the best , but he just need to work on it that it won’t be repeated, for the coach, how can he substitute mwepu, did you see that after that change the game changed , how many times are we going to tell him about mwepu, just because of mwepu he will loose his job one day, the team played well but he need to work on number ten , he need play songs and Dakar and not things and clatus chamba, chan can score, and for kalaba, kalaba has finished he doesn’t deserve to play with those guys he can confuse then because those guys run too much, so coach work on central…

  8. Please coach do not repeat substituting mwepu the computer, and use Daka for more than 30 minutes he is very good that boy.if you love your job please let mwepu play 90 minutes.

  9. There is no mistake here, it is negligence, how as a goal keeper do you want to dribble in the eighteen, and you chaps are all saying we all make mistakes. That was manslaughter, almost murder had the other team equalised. He needs to be given a second chance but with a warning letter in writing. He is a good goal keeper after all

  10. I think Zambia did a very nice job by beating Guinea i salute the guys for the job well done. i have watched all their games where mweene has an atitude of not concentrating he leaves the line. the other thing which brought the goal for Guinea it was over joy for Zambia thinking they have killed game, if there was enough they were going regret. I think this is the work of technical staff members watching the game, tell your players to pay much attention there is no friendship in football you do that when the game is over you are there represent your country. I am really dissapointed with Kennedy he has to work on his mistake which he did on wednesday 10 October .

  11. Call Mangani Banda for Mweene’s position and Mwepu should not be substuted he’s a pillar for the team.

  12. MWEENE the ONLY TONGA made a terrible mistake like HH attempting 7 times as PRESIDENT. GUINEA WILL SLAUGHTER THE SO CALLED BOYS IN GUINEA AT KUMASI STADIUM IT WILL BE FULLY PACKED WITH OMA BONGO WATCHING

  13. stupid comments from stupid minds if all those mentioned goalkeepers to replace mweene are your relatives then go and open a nation team for them and be there own coach. Mweene still our first choice. Don’t mix politics and football

  14. Well, first of all i would like to thank the almighty who have given us this wonderful time to share ideas pertaining the game played yesterday sunday the 14th October 2018 in Guinea. The boys played well it was just unfortunate that they did not draw either win, they had better chances than Guinea. Lets give support to the technical staff and the players, they still the chance to qualify for Camerron next year.
