Ministry of defense has refuted media reports that President Edgar Lungu has purchased a specialized jet for his personal errands.

Ministry of defense permanent secretary Stardy Mwale has disclosed that the Zambia air force under the ministry of defense has embarked on a programme to replace its ageing fleet of transport and fighter air crafts and other associated air defense equipment.

In this vein Mr. Mwale says the Ministry of defense through Zambia Airforce has purchased five planes and explained that one will be used to maintain airspace and monitor poaching, while the other three will be for commercial purposes.

Mr. Mwale has also said one of the planes will be used for VVIPs.

He said information circulating regarding Zambia’s procurement of aircrafts is misleading and malicious.

Mr. Mwale added that Zambia air force is the only state institution which is mandated to provide air mobility to the head of state and will remain the only procuring agent for Government aircrafts.

  1. This is *****ic. No one said he bought it for personal errands. Why are you refuting something no one has said?
The point is that we don’t have money to start buying luxury planes for the presidency. The challenger works just fine.
I don’t really see how any person who has morals can justify buying a presidential jet for Lungu at this point in time.
People like this really make me angry.

    • In addition, the plane manufacturers, Sukhoi, already published that they were in the process of manufacturing a luxury plane for the president of Zambia. It’s in the public domain.
Guys, have a sense of shame. There is no way you have just reasons for buying this plane for 48million USD, when you are failing to pay civil servants and students, in the meantime you are busy increasing your own salaries and backdating them.

    • Do these politicians really listen to what people are saying?
This guy comes and says “information circulating regarding Zambia’s procurement of aircraft is misleading and malicious” and yet he lamentably fails to communicate and answer the question people are raising, can you trust them? We are not fuuls, we know that ECL will not take that plane when he finishes his term in Office. The question basically is, what is the justification of buying an expensive plane at the time the country is experiencing debt crisis, civil servants not being paid, innocent students lives being lost because students were asking to be paid, excessive taxes on people, etc. Even if Zambia air force was responsible for purchases, ECL authorizes the purchase. So???

    • RB was the same new fleet of mercs, trips overseas etc. He cried when the lost that election. It’s all going to come to abrupt end. People please pray for him. God bless Lungu

    • But really, what kind of prioritizing is this? Imagine a man who is failing to buy food for his family, struggling to pay school fees, struggling to pay utility bills, he has huge loans to pay off, and then he goes and borrows more money to buy a Mercedes Benz AMG. if you can call such a man responsible or even sane, then I understand why you can defend Mr. Lungu.

    • So 15 million Zambians are suffering just for one man to be getting rich. Civil servants dont get paid but you choose to purchase a private jet. Wake up Zambia. Lungu must go now. 2021 kwalepa.

    • ‘…ONE OF THE PLANES WILL BE FOR VVIPs.’……That’s exactly the point, ba Mwale!!! That’s Lungu’s private jet. So, what are you disputing, here? PFooooooooooooooooools!!!!

    • “Mr. Mwale has also said one of the planes will be used for VVIPs”
Whatever weed/chamba these PF00Lish thieves are smoking, I want some of it too.

    • Stard Mwale -this name.. this name …remember that article posted on LT on December 30, 2017 where he was refuting so called malicious allegations then and what happened..the day will come for this PS…one day we come for this tool.
“It’s the confiscated Mukula Logs that are being exported to China by ZAFFICO – Defence PS (30/12/2017)
Government has dismissed allegations levelled against senior Government officers that they were involved in the illegal exportation of Mukula logs.
Defense Permanent Secretary Stard Mwale told a media briefing held at his office today that the allegation is false and malicious.
The PS however, said government officials found wanting in the illegal mukula logs would be dealt with accordingly.”

      lusakatimes…

    • MUSHO, sometimes I wonder what’s with your state of mind.
You see nonsense where wise people see sense and sense where the less wise see sense.
In your home, if you have no mealie meal which is the staple food for typical Zambians, then you go and buy a suite,…..I fear to think what kind of wisdom you may be claiming to have if so.
Just don’t annoy Zambians because you are out there where you can not see the anger on people’s eyes. The majority are hungry and there is no social cash transfer to talk about.
Multides more are dying because the only medicine you can get at the clinic or hospital is Panadol, Amoxyl and piriton for whatever sickness you may have! You will even be lucky to get these because most of the time the people at the pharmacy also get their chance to…

    • Kasongo Wabaluba – I wish someone could ask this tool Stard about Mukula and how much money ZAFFICO got from Mukula compared to what Chinese customs have on paper…these are the same thieves that want National Prayers…vile criminals.

  2. Which confirms that there is a source of fake news aimed at stirring up a whirlind in a tea cup. Reminds me of that song by JK: “Balalolela wasanga icishinka…”

    • Nine Chale dear lady, read between the lines
“Mr. Mwale says the Ministry of defense through Zambia Airforce has purchased five planes and explained that one will be used to maintain airspace and monitor poaching, while the other three will be for commercial purposes… has also said one of the planes will be used for VVIPs”
Who do you think will use the VVIPs aircraft? Do you know the specification of an aircraft for a “very very important person”? The reports are true and spot on.
Please wake up from your gullibility!!

    • Look at Sierra Leone their President cancelled a $400 m contract for an airport…who do you think Minister of Defense reports to and who approves all these procurements.
Please wake up from your docility!!

    • Imwe naimwe ba Nine Chale. Bufontini washani ubi? Does your tompwe function properly?

    • Maybe it will sink in now you have written in Deutsche….am sure she belives her husband when he states that he is doing overtime with his beautiful sexy secretary on Friday nites..Nine is very gullible..please excuse her!!

    • Imwe balumendo, Vorsicht! Or should I say Bassop! I’ll sue you for defamation of character, mwaumfwa? Why do you want everyone to see things your way? In a democracy, everyone is entitled to their own opinnion. My advice is wait for the conclusion in the case at hand. There is clearly someone exaggerating things as can be read in other related articles circulating the web.

    • Nine Chale – You are really fügsam and a dummkopf ..how can an anonymous blogger sue other anonymous bloggers? You are excused ..like I excused JUNIOR’s ignorance .. now he can not show his Vaseline greasy face due to shame.

    • @ Nine Chale
How can you sue somebody for “defamation of character” when you are brain-washed sufferer of genetically induced !mbecility?

  3. Mwale hasn’t refuted anything, he has actually confirmed that a VVIP plane has been purchased.
The fact still stands: Tax payers’ money is being wasted to purchase the so-called VVIP aircraft. Doesn’t matter whether it’s being purchased by State House or ZAF, what has annoyed many of us is that we are wasting taxpayers’ money on unnecessary an fruitless ventures

  4. Of course we expect nothing less than refusal and refutations from the PF, followed by a statement to say that they have “refunded” the money back to the Jet sellers. This is the leadership you have

  5. Even if the plane has been bought, Lungu will not take it to Chimwemwe after leaving office. The plane belongs to Zambia.

    • It does not matter that it is not lungus personal to holder jet, primary school children are learning under trees for lack of class rooms in some districts and using pit latrines in many secondary schools for luck of funds , does that not bother some of you ?

    • Ndanje even the children learning under a tree in social cash transfer kabanshi’s lunga district, a pf constituency. he will leave power and they will remain poorly educated property of Zambia, that will continue depending on social cash transfer for survival.

  6. You would think PF would by now start refurbishing prisons and upgrading them as time fast approaches.. just saying.. dilapidated walls, non functional toilets/showers… it will be a huge down grade from private jet lifestyle to tin pot things… just saying!!

  7. The difference is the same PS Mwale. I feel pity his excellence sure’ this kind of people who want to deny even straight fatwas things. So you have confirmed the purchase. Anything else sorry but you have missed it

  8. “Mr. Mwale has also said one of the planes will be used for VVIPs.”
That is the one we are condemning iwe chi Stardy Mwale.
President Edgar “Directives” Lungu directed the government to institute austerity measures, so he meant that whatever we save as a country topped up w

  9. “Mr. Mwale has also said one of the planes will be used for VVIPs.”
That is the one we are condemning iwe chi Stardy Mwale.
President Edgar “Directives” Lungu directed the government to institute austerity measures, so he meant that whatever we save as a country topped up with our taxes would be used to purchase the executive jet? Who is VVIP who does not know that the country is seriously in debt distress? That there is no money for medicines or SCT? That we rely on donors and their tax payers to finance us?
What have those VVIPs done for our country to reduce poverty, to reduce fuel and cost of living, increase jobs, to increase the reserves, to increase national wealth in order to deserve such luxury? Normal people would create surplus wealth and use some of that to purchase…

  10. VVIPs don’t need a luxury jet.
Civil servants are not being paid on time, we have primary school children learning under trees for lack of class rooms and these theives think of buying a jet for VVIPs ????

This is wrong. I wish all donner countries pull their tax payers money out until such nonsense stops

  11. He has not a plane but ZAF has procured a new fleet of aircraft which includes a VVIP aircraft for the President…so the reports are true!!

  12. Normal people woukd first reate surplus wealth and use some of that to purchase such luxuries. This jet is for President Lungu, never mind who buys it, or what you call it, it sits on government expenditure all the same. What exactly has President Lungu achieved to deserve this? Certainly not seeing where he has landed this country’s economy in his short three years as President.

  13. ….And Inonge Wina had earlier denied that Zambia was purchasing a Presidential jet, so what do you call this? I will forgive her if President Edgar “Directive” Lungu never uses this jet, leave it for the rest of the so called VVIP, led by Inonge Wina. He continues to use the existing one.

  14. Iwe chi Satan.tardy Mwale we are not fo.ols okay? In America the US Air Force procures and runs Air Force One, and it is used exclusively for the US President? What is the difference in Zambia? Do you think that the President’s handlers and security will allow any other pompi to use that jet? Have you seen the interior? Not even Inonge would qualify to use it unless she is given a lift by her boss, which never happens as she is the acting.
Now we wait for Amos Chanda or Dora to spin another story.

  15. 3 luxury planes for “commercial” use….what is that about? Where do all these so called “austerity” measures by the ministry of finance come into play with this kind of spending?

  16. What is this rodent yapping. He even saying president lungu did not buy bla bla bla

Where did he get the money from.

    Did he use his money.

These pf chaps must be punished.

I wish they can be put in a holding cell then police discharg a teargas they way it was done at UNZA

    • The lazy moron is hiding and cowering behind the drinks cabinet as usual …waiting for his next flight and to be escorted by foooools to KKIA

  17. Not too long ago The Vice President was refuting this story in parliament. Do we have rules to deal with liars in parliament???? Our mother is too old to b lying!!!

  18. We should stop believing the notion that politicians are our servants, how can a VVIP be your servant? In Africa they are cruel slave masters.

    • Our humble servant will be riding in a luxurious flying saucer, this reminds of the story of the master and his camel. The camel has finally pushed it’s master out the warm tent into the cold.

  19. It’s Eastern power. Muzalila. Baononga Zambia bakawalala. The next government should introduce death penalty for all who are involved in corruption. They have caused unnecessary anguish and deaths. Only people who survive are those who are evacuated to other countries. Why?

  20. This country has issues with itself. Just been watching Guinea Bissau Vs Zambia game. We have two respectable stadias than what I saw on TV. Do remember of doom wishers over the same projects. We need to move people. We were there first country Southern Africa to have a TV station but now compare the nonsense to what SA has.

  21. It seems like its OK for right thinking leaders to keep acquiring unnecessary luxuries at the expense of tax payers- and to my surprise, there is someone to defend such imprudent decisions.

It’s common knowledge that someone must pay for those luxurious expenses- that someone is every Zambian.

Our leaders continue on this path because we have not as the electorate held them accountable and reprimand them.
In short, they are like that because we don’t check them but rather defend them. That luxury plane is neither a necessity nor a priority. Be responsible.

  22. @Ghost Dog ZAF has bought 5 jets distributed as follows
3 for business for public passegers ( raise money for the country)
1 to maintain airspace and monitor poaching activities and 1 to be used for VVIP operations, which you may not understand because you dont understand govt operations. The president is not the only VVIP. The Vice president and ministers are all VVIPs. The president has already a specific president plan.

Unfortunately VVIP does not include oposition presidents.

    • Is this luxury plane a necessity?
Can our government justify it’s purchase especially at s time lime this when are so broke?
Where then are austerity measures to help our economy if not that government spends money carefully?

  23. Mwale you sue those who are accusing him if what you’re saying is true, but why should they lie? A plan for VVIP for what when the economy has gone to dogs, wake up and face the reality fuel increase, electricity increase, poor health condition etc and you’re even saying vvip plan, when people are suffering, shame on you Mwale

  24. What would President Magufuli of Tanzania do about this expensive luxury from national treasury?
What will stop people like Professor P.L.O Lumumba from calling on Africans to realise that our leaders are excessive in spending?

  25. Christianhood messiah party, the party to form the next government with ten striking exciting manifestos and won’t disclose till 2019.

  26. The so called chambianese a.r.e leading us into ekonomic, politikol etc disaster. On taxpayers money and indeed the well wishers money getting such luxurious life? How do our politikol leaders deserve this imwe sure? Awe 2012 is like 10years from today…

  27. Stupid fools… this is not a presidential jet but for all VVIP. So the VP Inonge was right as this is not a presidential jet. Only fools think that the president is the only VVIP in the country.

  28. The brain has been designed to produce ideas that suit our decision.people exposure.Reading, traveling and asking questions help to arrange and re-arrange thoughts in our mind.”the word ‘IMPOSSIBLE ‘can only be found in the DICTIONARY of fools.”Zambians we can stand again and do the right thing though I don’t see the potential leaders in this country.if you ask me why I can explain I don’t see the good leader.

  29. I blame voters who do not use their skopos to elect leaders. They are easily fooled by politicians through bribes and entertainment. The only way to get out of this misery that we’ve created for ourselves is to educate the poor and those in rural areas to make sure they critically analyse politicians before voting for them. As things stand at the moment, another term in office is awaiting ECL and company. It’s time we stopped feeling sorry for poor people who keep on voting for selfish and greedy leaders.

  30. Very sad development. what is more sad is that even with such, we still have people on this forum in support. where are people’s morals?

  31. Below is a quote from the President of the Sukhoi jet company.

“we signed [contracts] on an absolutely new market — the African market, we signed a contract with Zambian companies to supply four [SSJ 100] planes plus one aircraft in the VIP version for the head of state,” Slyusar said in an interview with Rossiya 24 television”

  32. The government must have forgotten that in 2017, they had told us that they were buying five planes from Russia for the new national airlines.
Russian media also published and confirmed the report.
So it doesn’t make sense for ZAF to be involved in the procurement of commercial airlines for an independent parastatal- Zambia Airways.
    google ****sputniknews.com*****russia-uac-zambia-deliveries***

  33. Zambia is a sovereign nation and has every right to maintain it’s defense capabilities. People questioning Zambia’s priorities when it comes to defense are ill-informed. The US and European countries spend billions of dollars on their defense and yet the gap between the poor and rich in these countries continue to grow and no one blinks an eyelid. Zambia needs to beef up its military capabilities because of the relentless attacks on our government by some rogue freedom fighters conniving with outside mercenaries to try and force regime change. How do you embark on economic sabotage of your own country just to win votes? Even if the other man was a thief, I would rather side with a thief than a traitor.

  34. Complaining and complaining is not helping this country. Why can’t Zambia Air Force purchase new aircrafts? Zambians we complaining too much. And most of you just complain and yet your contribution to this country is nothing but your complaints. Even when Fuel goes up on the global market, Edgar Lungu has failed. Like Edgar Lungu has oil reserves. Really?

    • Go through your thoughts once again, this isn’t a joke .Everyone is contributing to this country, even the unborn ones does in various ways .For someone to complain, it means something somehow is wrong because the reasons we give are the ones that unites and separates us, come to think of this, if you are given an opportunity of managing this country today, what kind of leadership would you give us?. To me the answer is, I can’t expect quality leadership out of you.You are free today because Others fought for the freedom you have today then why can’t you say something that gives hopes the way the our freedom fighters did and finally became independent from oppression and other things?. Things are happening around the country, Zambia, but United, we stand and divided, we fall. I…

  35. The airforce is the only aviation industry employing indigenous personnel all workers are Zambians and now you want to politicise it and refuse it to mordernise.

The question should be are these the right type of aeroplanes for us.

The airforce is the only place poor Zambians can enter the aviation industry.

If I was the one choosing the aircraft’s I would have chosen popular models which are more expensive so that the boys working on them can be marketable in the civil industry.

What should be moved away from is having an independent wing for presidential planes.

Let’s not use politics to kill an industry giving poor people the only chance to enter a hi-tech industry.

Please teach people how to fish than give them a fish. That’s the only way we are going to move…

  36. History

    RB wept
    George Kunda passed on MHSRIP
    Tenta Mashimba passed on RIP
    Chiluba is no more
People celebrated when Winter was fired

    Time time

  37. Captain GM Samoa, Meanwhile we have some children learning under mango trees and university graduates half baked…..what type of trainees do we hope to have in the air force with high tech equipment? Catch 22, don’t you think?

  38. It funny how mr Mwale wants to confuse the readers with his cheap uncoordinated arguments. He is basically confirming what they are doing. Yes ZAF is in charge of buying govt air crafts and so is the president who controls and appoints who does what and when at the ZAF. The cry from the people is that planes are not a priority when our education sector is in ruins and our children have no decent learning environments. Can the govt please look at the plight of the underpriviledge instead of being busy acquiring loans that are simply benefitting the political elit and their cronies.

  39. Just shut up, your cover has been blown. You thought that you will keep this a secret in this modern age of internet and social media…… ubepele fiyi

  40. Mushota, just shut up, u don’t even contribute tax with your pros!titution money just continue to view the world while facing up………makaka iwe

The man says the information circulating is malicious but he goes ahead and confirms that indeed the presidential plane has been bought. Iam getting confused. It appears Mr Mwale speaks a language he does not understand. Let him speak in his native language if he does not understand the English language.

  42. I think people are more concerned about Lungu’s priorities not all this nonsense this man is talking about .You cannot buy two planes when some kids somewhere in North western Province are learning in a school without desks ,toilets etc . Politics under Lungu is all about silencing and bullying any voice that speaks for the poor and about what politicians can get out of it .Above and beyond , fattening their Bank accounts , expanding their property portfolio and improving the lives of politicians relatives and friends is PF number one priority.

The majority of Zambians are kicked in the sea of unemployment and poverty as long as they can see day light that is all that matters to Lungu and his Amos Chanda . During elections they come and do some stupid dances give out tax payers…

  43. This is why you inform citizens before you embark on some of these ventures. You don’t respect the people and hence you keep them in the dark. Until someone tells them. These deal was supposed to have been debated in parliament but you went around and bypassed it
