Specialist Doctors in South Africa have successfully conducted a surgery on Everette Chongo, a University of Zambia student who was last week evacuated to that country for specialised treatment.

Everette, a second-year student in the school of education injured her spine and broke her legs when she jumped from her October Hostel room during the riots at the University of Zambia which led to the death of Vespers Shimuzhila, a fourth-year student.

Zambia’s High Commissioner to South Africa Emmanuel Mwamba disclosed the development after visiting the patient today.

“Chongo underwent a four-hour surgery on her lower spine on Saturday and the doctors have stated that the operation was very successful”. Mr. Mwamba has said.

He said the doctors have also stated that she will immediately begin her rehabilitation.

Last week government evacuated the student in the company of her parents to South Africa for specialist treatment.

Health Minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya was on hand to witness the evacuation of Everett by air ambulance to South Africa for specialist treatment.

    • The Private jet has anti-missile Lasers. An aviation expert has described the fitting of anti-missile Lasers onto a commercial aircraft as crazy.

Total price to Zambian tax-payers=$400 million. 5 brand new hospitals & a mini university could have been constructed with this money. Vipuba ivi, ni vi kawalala big time.

  2. It says alot with Zambia …a student of a University which has a Medical School being operated in RSA…you wonder how someone like Lazy Lungu can spend huge amounts on Private Jets and salaries increments ..then call himself a President.

    • Used to the beggar mentality. Used to the inferiority complex. Lungu can’t teach his citizens to do these operations at home

  3. Prevention is better than cure! The parents should proceed and sue the state for damages! This injury will affect this young girl’s health during her reproductive years. She surely will have to endure a painful existence for the rest of her life! No parent should send their children to UNZA only to be brutalized, injured or to be killed by overzealous state police!

  4. LUNGU-MUST-GO

And I want kapongo at woodlands selo

They guy goes to buy a JET and refuses to allowance to students.

Forgiving these guys is CRIME in itself as such maxmum punishment must be metted on top PF leadership

Tear gas is not designed to kill but to disperse unruly crowds.

Kapongo must be put in cells then a teargas must discharged.

No mercy for a these rodents

  5. But upnd cadres also, so tri.bal they cannot even see their “leaders'” hands in the murder and mayhem at UNZA that night. I will not name the names for fear of being sued for defamation. But anyone who does not carry a trib.al head can clearly ths pattern in this sad saga of sacrificing innocent lives using stupiod students and stupiod cadres to fan trouble.

    • you envy UPND so much that you even call yourself as such. It is a pity that you feel you cannot support UPND because you are of a certain tribe and suffer from tribal inferiority complex. mbuzi iwe

  6. As I have stated before, President Lungu is a better option than the Trib.al Hacks. How can you have a national leader who was made party leader because Sejani said the party is for a certain tri.be? And the man has not seen it fit to apologise to the nation, in fact during unguarded moments when he felt overconfident of winning elections, he has openly embraced triba.l comments. And when he has lost he has insulted Nsengas openly. And before GBM became running mate there was a tribe in Zambia called bemba monkeys. To me trib.alism is the worst thingbthat can happen to Zambia, debts, nkongoles, etc etc are far less harmful than trib.alism. We just have took at Rwanda.
Please continue losing forever and ever Amen.

  7. Oh I forgot another point, no party convention since he was triba.lly anointed in 2006. Without a convention for 11 years, he is an illegitimate leader. How can a leader be afraid of elections in his own party? Good that its impossible for him to become the His Excellency of Zambia, just imagine if he was elected there would no more elections in Zambia for at least 11 years…

  8. Where is Zambia’s pride??
This shows that SA has advanced medical equipments, doctors than those in Zambia has.
It is shameful @54 still cared by Mzungu in SA. Kafupi has been flocking to SA how much Zambia pay for overseas treatment for its selected citizens

  9. But abantu busy PF,PF when you don’t even have medical aid or medical insurance…….pa Zambia yaba, the money for medications redirected to a private jet

  10. Busy supporting PF, PF when you don’t even have medical insurance or Medical aid, yaba, Pa Zambia…… all the money has gone to the Jet for you know who, when he gets sick he rushes to SA and when you go to hospital they tell you meds

  11. Those doctors must also operate on Dora Slit to remove all the excess mafuta saturating her body from stolen loot and Congolese sperm, it stinks ????!

  12. Xenophes, uneducated, uncivilised, barbaric SAns…..but the educated and civilised Zambies still go to the same people for first class medical treatment and for economic refugee. Useless education from a glorified high school called UNZA. The xenophobes, uneducated, uncivilised, barbaric SAns are the only Africans who don’t travel to other countries for medical treatment. May the poor student recover well. We are waiting for your president to visit for flu treatment.
