Investors are welcome in Zambia- President Lungu

Share

President Edgar Lungu has assured investors and the business community that Zambia is always ready to receive investors from any part of the world.

And the President Lungu has implored the business community, diplomatic corps and all Zambians in general to ignore the heightened campaign which has been calculated to undermine the economy.

President Lungu said his government’s resolve is to overcome the lies that have been expressly designed to hurt the Zambian economy.

He stated that government’s management of the economy and public finances is based on laid down systems and guided by sound fundamentals.

“We shall see off all these lies and innuendos. Our management of the economy and public finances is based on laid down systems and guided by sound fundamentals. Let me take this opportunity to assure all other investors that Zambia is open, safe and ready to receive any investor from any part of the world,” the President emphasized.

The Head of State was speaking in Lusaka today during the official opening of TOTAL Zambia’s new headquarters in Northmead.

The President said his government has no reason to doubt the intentions of the French multi-national company, TOTAL Zambia, because of its global sound reputation.

He said the country is grateful that TOTAL has continued to invest in Zambia where it occupies a commanding height in the energy sector.

President Lungu also expressed gratitude that the company decided to keep their operations intact in Zambia while other major international oil marketing companies decided to move to other regions few years ago.

The President is pleased that TOTAL Zambia has invested over 30 million United States dollars in the last three years to expand and modernise its facilities such as the fuel depots in Lusaka, and service stations across the country in order to meet the increasing energy demand, as well as enhance service delivery to customers.

And TOTAL Zambia Chairman Pierre Yves-Sachet said his company is proud to be part of the developmental agenda of Zambia.

Mr. Yves-Sachet said the investments that his company has made in Zambia are a positive contribution to economic activities and the development of the country.

“As TOTAL we fully appreciate that energy is a key driver in the economic development of the country and our commitment remains to make energy available and accessible industry and as many people as possible and this is central to our core business, said Mr Yves-Sachet.

The TOTAL Zambia Chairperson also disclosed that in response to the call for diversification in the energy sector, his company has embarked on the construction of the first ever solar powered service station and is also involved in scaling up of solar projects in the country.

He said his company is working on the first ever wind farm in Pensulo, Northern Zambia which is expected to produce 130 megawatts at a cost of 250 million United States dollars.

  1. You make so much sense but in as much as you do, you defeat yourself in the process because of corruption and wrong decisions made in your government.

    • It is called a lack of vision…

Can we have a clear vision that will show us how an ordinary Zambian fits into this whole new order.

Because there is nothing of our own, there is no belief in our own but belief in foreigners.

Can you explain just how the money will remain in the country without Zambians managing their own economy?

Can you let us know just how the environment is being created to help ordinary Zambian businesses thrive?

I have a long list and so do other patriotic Zambian.

    • The President is right on the momey again!

They are welcome, the door remains open for them.
We are the best economically and politically safest country in Africa according to the United Nations,

      Thanks

    • “MOST” not “ALL” Zambians are a happy go lucky people without a vision.

A vision will always challenge you and a Zambian doesn’t want to be challenged.

A man without a vision is a man without a future and a man without a future always goes back to his past.

      Vision confronts your comfort zone
Vision concentrates your energy, resources and time – A Zambian has no vision, you check how they are spending their money and time – go to the pubs and let us know.

When the money is finished they dip into government coffers.

Zambians should have a vision because it conceives new opportunities, it will help us get out of our perplexity and conceive new opportunities.

    • Meantime the plane story is taking to the sky. It’s appears actually 8 planes purchase. 2 for the president. One from Russia and one from Israel. The one from Russia costs Usd 48m. The one from Israel costs more than Usd 70m.
      oh I kwena

    • The problem is is you run away when there are important decisions to be made .You are the first to jump on the plane instead of facing problems head on .How do you explain the fact that there is school in North western with no desks with a grass roof yet you make buying a plane for expensive and unnecessary flights a priority .

    • They have always been. Zambia is a great country. It has always been. It had been a very peaceful country until UNDER FIVE came. Let’s develop this thing. He is UNELECTABLE and TRIBAL.

    • Mr. Lungu awe sure!

Where did you get the money to buy the jets from Russia?

You consider that sound economic sense?

Where is your bongo bongo Sir?

The grey matter is missing from our leader.

    • Mapatizya Formula is the UPND official policy of trying to sway public opinion and win sympathy by throwing a kitchen sink at the duly elected government of Zambia so that people may think the government is evil. It is motivated by anger and bitterness by a five time presidential candidate loser, a TONGA who leads what many experts believe is a TRIBAL organisation masquerading as a Party. In their thirst for power they use underhand methods to win sympathy but HH, also known as UNDER FIVE, is not popular in Zambia and is UNELECTABLE which means the formula will NEVER work.

    • No one is saying that Zambia is NOT “open, safe and ready to receive any investor” and “management of the economy and public finances” CAN be based on laid down systems, the question is do we have the proper systems and are those systems being followed correctly?

Otherwise, the whole above story sounds like, nothing is happening, even all corruption allegation, are all lies. The man is denying any wrongdoing doing, by anyone. But that is a lie in itself and not being honest with the Zambian people.

    • The only campaign hurting Zambia is unnecessary expenditure (like buying a VVIP plane, violent and uncouth pf cadres having more powers over professional civil servants, over borrowing, divide and rule tactics, etc. This scares investors away, infestors will come but not investors.

    • How can you assure investors when you cower from interviews from news agencies …I mean you are a coward a waste of space!!

    • Mr. President, you are not serious. Do you know what it means for an investor, particularly a foreign investor, to feel welcome?

    • Meimatungu – this man is talking about his Chink money men who can come in without learning the language and paying off everyone…he has zero understanding what it entails to reassure investors …he thinks its a question of reading silly speeches, look at Theresa May running about making press briefs and interviews with journalists over Brexit.

  2. When the leaders of a country place the responsibility of developing a country in the hands of foreigners, then you know that that country has no future and immediately places it’s own citizenry in the position of 2nd class citizens.

    • When citizens of a country are not active in developing their resources, the leaders have no option but to call for investement from outside. The problem is that many Zambians want fast money and are not ready to take the challenge to invest but quick to complain. Complaining is not a strategy, as Jeff Bezos the founder of Amazon put it.

    • Zambia spent close to $17 billion on infrastructure yet not a ngwee on training and re skilling the millions of unemployed.

Of that money , atleast $150 million should have been used in skills and project management training in targeted industries.

Now you have half baked graduates and school leavers being thrown amongst some of the most skilled entrepreneurs in the Chinese and Indians and expect them to perform ?? To this we have no or exhobitant financing for zambians.

GRZ is to blame for lack of vision.

    • So “Retarded UNDER FIVE can develop it in the hands of Namwalans by using the money he took to a FOREIGN LAND-” Retarded tribals.

    • Investators Ha Scared of TRIBALISM and CHILDISHNESS not people who H-understand issues better and on principle like Sharon.

  3. Cheap talk, actions speak louder than word and your actions are not impressive at all, it is scandal after scandal with you, corruption is your middle name, you probably drunk that why all this sh!t you are saying……grow up and think about your people pompwe iwe

  6. A lot of us in Zambia are visionless and that why we are always happy to vote for people who are visionless. Birds of the same feather ….
One izakapolika mu Zambia. Ni kayaya. First itinyokole njala thats when we shall learn to vote properly.
    Disaster!!!!!!

    • HH is visionless and CHILDISH. He is clueless and does not know how to win an election besides whining. He also HALLUCINATES like his worshipers.

  7. ZAMBIA IS THE BEST FOR FOREIGN INVESTORS, U WILL OWN GUNS AND SHOOT USELESS AND VISIONLESS ZAMBIANS RAPE THEM AND U SHALL GET AWAY WITH IT. 8. Zambia best economically and politically safest country in Africa as per UN? which UN report? Are we on the same planet? Please educate me! I have 3 PhDs, 27 years experience in Zambian (re)made multi-party democracy.

  9. Investors are welcome in Zambia? They are also welcome in Malawi, South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia, Malaysia, Tanzania, Zimbabwe

  10. Your problem, Mr President, is
    1. Lack of transparency, your party and its govt deny things that always come to pass or that you yourself later admit after Dora or Amos have previously denied.
    2. Lack of transparency: look at the weird explanations by Stardy Mwale for the Presidential executive jet. Even Inonge had denied previously and yet she knew the truth, or you did not tell her perhaps? Which would be weird seeing she is your Veep. Why didnt you just open the debate about your intentions to puchase a new custom designed executive jet, get our opinions, explain why you could not just refurbish or redesign the interior of your Challenger? In America they are openly discussing replacement of Air Force One, and every American is agreed that their Presidents (not just Trump) need a…

In America they are openly discussing replacement of Air Force One, and every American is agreed that their Presidents (not just Trump) need a new jet.
    3. No evidence that you are fighting corruption and yet we all see it in your government and in the opposition, it’s everywhere and you look funny denying the obvious. Corruption has become so endemic under your watch as PF and as President that you can even touch it. Look at your colleagues in Tanzania and Angola, action oroented against corruption. And you? No, distractors are telling lies in foreign media. What lies? Africa Confidential forced your government spokespersons to tell different contradictory stories. And finally you react by firing a minister, probably an innocent one at that. Next you are refinding money to…

Africa Confidential forced your government spokespersons to tell different contradictory stories. And finally you react by firing a minister, probably an innocent one at that. Next you are refinding money to DFID and appointing inquiries. Inquiries into lies or what?
Please change why you still have time Mr President. Don’t be too comfortable with our support, we can withdraw it anytime, and show you the door in 2021 and follow up all corruption cases ourselves. KK stayed 27 years and we showed him the door though for different reasons. You have only been there 3 years and already of a resilient PF? Be serious Your Excellency, don’t take us for granted.
